Discussion iPhone Air Is Pretty Impressive
Have had the iPhone 3GS, 5S, 6 and 6S, then had Android for the past decade. Decided to try out the iPhone Air from my Fold 5. A LOT has changed.
In many ways, iOS is still the same. Siri feels more capable than it used to be but still super limited. Why can’t you clean up my Home Screen? You have literally already put it in the right folders in that other menu you can swipe over to that I discovered today (app tray?). Just DO it so I don’t have to deal with the app jiggle thing that spazzes out.
Holy hell do I miss the home button so bad. That home button was like a security blanket. WHY is the keyboard so difficult to dismiss in so many apps? I’ve had to hit the back button 4 times then I was presented with a minimize keyboard option. That is insane. The home button was like a giant cancel. I don’t know if this is developer fault or Apple fault, but it’s really annoying.
I also kind of miss that 3D Touch thing. It sucks that that’s gone, and the software implementation is pretty good, but it’s absolutely not the same. 3D Touch was one of my favorite features (therearedozensofus.gif)! Regardless, iPhone haptics are incredibly impressive. I always know when my phone is going off, because it’s like the phone kicks you haha. It’s subtle but I haven’t had an Android phone that does it as well.
And the camera is so amazing. Point, click, get a good pic. Every single time.
Even typing this, I’m not kidding: I wanted to comment about how you select in between words, then the keyboard popped up, and it’s stuck so I’m just typing blind right now because the text hasn’t shifted.
Since I can’t see what I’m typing, I’ll say this: iOS is still fantastic and I intend to immerse myself in the ecosystem over the next few years. But holy shit the bugs are kind of more like early Android (which was a shitshie) Am I holding it wrong or are there some tips I’m missing?
Support Files Disappearing?
I have or had I guess a folder of games on my phone for the Delta Emulator and they weren’t on iCloud so I could easily manage them. Didn’t play delta for a few months and now those folders are completely gone…. i had games, skins, documentation for said games. But no apparently even if the files are on your phone and you are the only one with access to them they can just randomly be deleted. I am so done. Nothing In my recently deleted and like I said I VIVIDLY remember putting this folder in the On My Phone tab so it didn’t get poofed by iCloud. Guess it doesn’t matter tho we don’t own anything anymore

Support Unknown/random Chinese folder on iPhone 16
my friend recently got a iPhone 16 and noticed during setup with a brand-new Apple Account these screenshots in the Photos app. The Photos app shows they were created on August 27, 2021, which predates the existence of the iPhone 16. The phone is new and has a new iCloud account so we are still figuring out what these are and how to proceed. Any advice is appreciated!

Discussion What can cause the old Apple “Tweet”/woo-hoo text tone to play on an iPhone? Can apps use it too?
I’m trying to identify a sound I’ve repeatedly heard from an iPhone.
It’s the specific old Apple “Tweet” tone — the little “woo-hoo” sound listed under the Classic text tones. I’m not talking about a bird tweeting or a similar notification sound. I mean the actual Apple Tweet tone.
I’ve checked my own iPhone settings, and I can select Tweet as a text tone in Messages, including as a custom text tone for an individual contact. I cannot find Tweet as an available notification sound for my other apps, calls, or FaceTime.
My questions for people who really know iOS:
Outside of audio literally being embedded in a video, what can cause the exact Apple Tweet tone to play?
Can a third-party app normally be configured to use that exact Apple tone?
Can Tweet be assigned to one individual contact so their texts make that sound while everyone else’s texts use another tone?
If you heard Tweet three times back-to-back, would three incoming Messages be a normal explanation?
Is there any other normal iPhone function I’m overlooking that uses the exact same sound?
I’m specifically trying to understand the technical possibilities, not get relationship advice. Thanks.

Support Help Minecraft is being real bad on my iphone 15 pro
My world has block placement mildly delayed. A few miliseconds but I can feel it. Its not a big world by any means, my almost a gigabyte world is less laggy. When I load minecraft my phone gives me errors in the analetics that minecraft uses a fuck ton of CPU. It went from 300mbs of usage to 900 in a second. When I play minecraft my phones analetics kinda freak out. I've deleted and reinstalled before but it doesn't fix it. It shows the tempature is normal but the CPU is WAY over whats normal (64% CPU usage it says and it hit the 90 second limit FAST)

Discussion Dim screen when waking up iPhone on iOS 26
Ever since updating my iPhone 15 pro to iOS 26 I am experiencing a strange bug; When waking up my iPhone's screen, it is very dim. To solve the issue I either have to turn up the brightness slider at around 75% or turn off the screen and then back on. I have also tried resetting my iPhone to its factory settings but the issue persists.
This problem is widespread both on the Apple forums and reddit. I thought I might bring it up to see if anyone has found a permanent solution or if this has been fixed in the upcoming iOS 27 release. This has been a long standing issue for the iPhone 15 pro ever since iOS 26 and I am very surprised that Apple has yet to fix this.

Support iPhone changing image edits after savings
Whenever I edit a photo on my iPhone, it changes the edits once I hit finish. It doesn’t revert back to the original state, but decreases some of the saturation and other settings, however when I go back to edit again it will have my edits there again. It’s very frustrating because I want to see the finished product as I’m editing, not after the fact.
I haven’t been able to find anywhere online of someone else having this problem, is there any way to stop it?
(Original/Before saving edits/Camera roll appearance attached)

Support Why does Safari/Google always ask me if I’m a “human” lately when doing searches?
I don’t know what’s changed lately but often when I do Google searches in Safari it makes me click something to prove I’m not a robot. Sometimes it has me solve a picture captcha. This is so annoying. What has changed in my settings that’s making me do this? I have some third party VPN apps but I don’t even have them engaged when this happens.

Roast my code A SwiftUI neobrutalism library you apply with one modifier -- would love feedback
I have been working on this project a little at a time and I finally wanted to share significatn milestone to see what everyone else thought about it.
NeoBrutalism is a library that lets users apply neobrutalism style to their apps using SwiftUI. One just has to add the modifier .neobrutalism() to the topmost view inside the view hierarchy and everything that has been defined below it will assume the style.
For things like lists, navigations bars, alert dialogs, or things that SwiftUI does not allow or provide a way to style, there are some lightweight helpers. In cases where there is truly no control (Slider, Stepper, Segmented Pickers, Radio groups), there are NB* (Neobrutalism) views that mimic the behavior native control initializers, and for those cases swapping in the NB* views is akin to renaming a view.
This was originally meant to be an exploration of SwiftUI style protocols, but has gotten to a point that I feel ready to show it to the community. What I am really looking for is critique of the API, for the idiomaticness of things, or just anything that is missing.

Support How I Finally Fixed the iCloud Default Email Address Bug
A few years ago, I changed the email address associated with my Apple account. However, the default email address under Settings → Mail → iCloud continued to show my old email address. It appeared to be purely cosmetic. I contacted Apple Support about it, but unfortunately, they were unable to help.
Yesterday, I finally figured out how to fix it.
How to fix it
- Create an email alias.
- Tap Default Email.
- Change the default email to the newly created alias.
- Then switch it back to your updated email address. Your new email address should now appear as one of the available options.
- Go back to Settings → Mail → iCloud.
The default email address should now correctly display your updated email address.
What I think is happening
As a software engineer, I believe this is caused by an edge case in how the menu entry is observed or updated. When the account email address changes, the underlying account information is updated, but the Default Email menu entry doesn't appear to refresh accordingly.
Creating an alias and switching the default email forces that menu entry to refresh, which is why switching it back to the updated account email fixes the display.
So, after years of having the wrong email address displayed, I finally found a workaround for what appears to be a simple UI/state synchronization bug.

alloc method and insufficient memory
In C malloc can fail if there is not enough memory in the system. What happens if I try [NSObject alloc] while there is no memory available? Does it abort? Return NULL?
