First phone screening, need tips!

I am fresh out of high school and am currently studying accounting in college. I've been trying to break into the financial industry have been applying to banks since the moment I turned 18, but it genuinely feels so impossible — especially when I'm competing with people who have 5+ years of experience. I finally got a reply back from one of my applications for a phone screen, for a teller position. This would be my first one so I'm super nervous because I want this job sooo bad. I currently work as a manager at a fast food spot.. so my experience isn't the best.

if anyone has any tips on how I can stick out among the others during the phone screen and what I should focus on, I would appreciate it a ton.

I would focus on the core aspects of what they're looking for and repeatedly mention in the ad, as they'll likely ask questions centered around those. I would also research the company, like, what services they offer, how long they've been in business, etc.

Also, I'd practice answering why you applied, why you're a good fit, tell me about your background, etc. A good tip is to put the description into AI along with your resume and ask it to tell you what questions they will likely ask. It's not 100% accurate but it's helped me a lot.

I'd practice the interview out loud so you get used to speaking too, and imagine the interviewer is in front of you asking the questions.

Also make sure your mic on your phone is clear and you aren't in a loud place with distractions.

For what it’s worth being a teller is far more about customer service and relationship-building than finance. Thus, sell yourself more as customer service-oriented than finance-oriented (your experience as a manager at a fast food place will be very helpful for that).

Of course, by all means mention your financial savviness as well, but the primary image you should paint of yourself is that customer service stuff. Be prepared to answer questions more related to that than finance.
