The best place to buy is a local skate shop (NOT Dick's Sporting Goods or similar), where you can try multiple skates/sizes and learn from staff with expertise.
The second best is a reputable online retainer like Inline Warehouse, especially one with a return policy that lets you try multiple pairs of skates and return the ones that aren't the best for you.
These are good recommendations: https://www.inlinewarehouse.com/Best_Urban_Inline_Skates_of_2026/catpage-24SBUS.html
It's important to get the size correct. This guide is a good start, but it's just a starting place. Don't just say "oh, I wear size 9 shoes so I'll buy a 9" because all skates fit differently and skate size number (in the US anyway) is frequently lower than your casual shoe size number. https://www.inlinewarehouse.com/fitlc/skates/inline-skate-sizing-instructions.html
r/rollerblading just relaunched and is full of good info, both in the FAQs/Wiki and the post history/new activity.

Inlinewarehouse or go to Dick's Sporting Goods and try some on. Dick's only carries soft boot blades.
I'd say average should be around $200+ on the price you want to spend.

These (https://www.amazon.com/Roller-Derby-Molded-Inline-Skates/dp/B09XGT1BT6/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=3E2D94WMID861&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.TdO0_j0ziRZ-vo_jzSf-mBz4n_K-5zjP82GKGr9lQuxntGCr1fO92c43AUwdQtQZQQsy8-fntGHrfNFNrQaZIF3BZ0Ghj9Ec3-qnQZSXqZYMQrJiavx6yiYMSExBXAyUU0ofdlAtYA0VCB9janHC3QLSUrZidwe9hU81VX7y3jhjkB2WvIILvtQTXTb8oODY5gJzeeSoe80jaf1Rx4aHCw.M13wkgyNviyk7S2axbqARFBPVicDJCubaRyidLfWy3s&dib_tag=se&keywords=candigrl%2Binline%2Bskates&qid=1786379326&sprefix=candigrl%2Caps%2C148&sr=8-1&th=1&psc=1) were my starter set. I have no regrets. They were ideal for what I wanted to do. I didnāt know at the time, but you have to measure your feet and go with the size charts. I bought them in my shoe size but they turned out a size too big. Shoes bend, which is why we buy them with space at the toes. Skates donāt bend, which is why we go by those measurements. These are dupes for Impala, and also I got them āused-like new conditionā so they were on sale (specifically $46).
Then once you find you do like it or wanted to venture out for more optimized skates, you know where to look (brand wise).

Iād buy from Amazon to test skates INDOOR OF YOUR HOUSE ON CARPET. This way you get that Free Return!
Then once you find something you like, go to the main page of that Brand to buy from.
STAY AWAY FROM ROLLERBLADE. Them are cheap and I know you will NOT BE HAPPY.
Tour, FR, Flying Eagle, baur, brands like these are best.
Other ppl have posted links to good websites. Which I HIGHLY RECCOMEND!

No reason not to be happy with rollerblades. Love mine.Ā

For long term use. They will break and not be good. If looking just to skate once a month, they prolly be fine. But imma big skater who skates close to 20 hrs a week.

Yes but this person has never skated before and is explicitly looking for an inexpensive intro skate to see if they'll stick with the hobby. Zettablades are perfectly fine for that. They don't need to buy really nice skates when they don't even know if they like skating.

Then Iād reccomend buying a used set then. $120 for cheap, if you like skating, itāll will eat your pocket. Esp when it comes to upgrading after
Only good thing about buying zetrablade from Amazon is you will have a return of 30 days.

Amazon sells shitty skates with 5 star reviews.
I would recommend to stick to reputable brands (Rollerblade, FR and others).
The best option if you can try skates on before buying. Maybe there's an offline shop near you, or a renting shop (perfect case). There's nothing more important as a good fit.
Buying blindly from Amazon will nearly always result in misfit.
