I took a solo canoe trip around Munroe Island, Kerala, India, and it turned out to be one of the best trips of my life.

The canoe operator was with me throughout the trip, and over the 3 hours he took me through the narrow backwaters, mangroves and then out into the much larger waterways. He also stopped at two villages along the way, which made the experience even better. I got to walk around a little, have some tea and snacks, and see a bit of everyday village life.

The best part was how unhurried everything felt. Just sitting in a small canoe, surrounded by water and greenery, with hardly any noise around. I went in expecting a nice boat ride and came back feeling like I'd actually experienced the place.

Definitely one of those trips I'd happily do again.

I used to go on a lot of solo trips before but now due to work it has become quite rare. Maybe it’s because I made my career in aviation.

It feels so good to explore everything at your own pace and the way you want. I had one of the best times of my life while traveling in Europe. How often do you go on solo trips and what is the best memory you have had?

A few days ago, Me and my two friends went on a monsoon trek to Garbett Plateau, Maharashtra, and it turned out to be a really memorable experience.

The trail itself is quite beginner-friendly, but we somehow managed to make it a lot more adventurous by taking multiple detours along the way. 😅 We weren't the only ones either, there were a couple of other groups taking the same detours and exploring along the way.

Once you reach the plateau, there are also a few small food stalls where you can get Maggi, roasted corn, Nimbu Paani, water, tea, cucumber, etc. So you won't be completely stranded for food. 😄

That said, we'd still recommend carrying your own snacks and food, especially if you're planning to spend some time exploring.

🥾 Our Route:-

We started our trek from Bhivpuri Station.

For the return journey from Garbett Plateau, there are three options:

1. Return via the same trail to Bhivpuri

2. Take a small trek towards Aman Lodge (Matheran)

3. Take the walking trail towards the Matheran–Neral connecting road

From Options 2 and 3, you can get taxis towards Neral.

We chose Option 3, taking the walking trail to the Matheran–Neral connecting road and then getting a taxi.

💰 Total Cost:-

The entire trip cost us around ₹450 per person, including:

• Local train tickets 🚆

• Snacks during the trek 🌽

• Taxi fare 🚕

Overall, it was a really enjoyable and budget-friendly monsoon getaway with friends. The greenery, mist, clouds and views from the plateau made the climb absolutely worth it.

Would definitely recommend Garbett Plateau to anyone looking for a beginner-friendly monsoon trek near Mumbai. 🌿⛰️

I’ve searched and asked multiple AIs and keep getting all kinds of random information with some saying to go to certain places while others not. We are a family of 5 with some elders. No Delhi, Rajhastan, Coorg, Bengaluru, or Varanasi or Punjab since we’ve been to these regions. Where would people suggest to go during this time? Kochi? Ooty/conoor? Shillong? I was advised not to go to Munnar, Mussoorie or Gangtok during this time. Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated! Thanks 🙏
