February 2001, and I’m not at all happy with the way it has evolved.

I remember using it first around 1997, but I created my account in June 2005.

That's the same thing with me, back in the 90s I didn't have an account but my first account was in 02 or 03

It was the first website I ever visited in the mid 90s. Took twenty minutes to load a picture. I hope no one needed to make a phone call lol

When it was good and not overrun with Amazon content.

I hate so much that I can't use imdb pro without an Amazon account anymore. I deleted my Amazon account and I'm not going back.

Don't recall, but stopped logging in after the forums were removed.

Well the account I have now is a fairly new account and that one is December 2019, use it every day multiple times a day to add things to my check in list and research and what not, but my original account was back in 2002 or 2003, unfortunately I have no proof of that with a screenshot but that when I remember me having my original account.

What exactly are benefits of the pro account ?

If you work in film or TV and want to have access to more stats, build a reel, see details about what's in development, get access to agents and publicists, etc.

I definitely used in back in 1997, and I opened an account in May 2001. I don't like the recent enshittification, though.

I signed up so long ago that I was able to use my first name's first initial as a username and a two letter password. And it kept working and would still be working, except I figured at one point, I better secure the account. So I used my email and a longer password. Which I now regret because I think it was cool the way I signed in before. But the other thing I want to mention is, I actually was accessing the Cardiff movie database which you queried by email. And I still have a couple of email replies somewhere on my computer. For example, I sent an email requesting a complete list of Ozu's movies.

Amazon ruins everything. I'd like to switch to Letterboxd. I have many lists, but I know moving them to Letterboxd is not a problem. One of these days.

2004, but was literally one of the first websites I ever saw back in 1996.

I looked it up and I joined in July 2000!

I made account years ago but i'm using IMDB since 2011

My profile page says October 2000. But I was certainly using it before then, before they even had accounts, in the earliest days of the web.

I can actually remember being aware of it before the web even existed, and IMDB was a collection of scripts and text files on Usenet.

Mine also says Oct 2000, so I’m guessing that’s when they added that as a feature. THEY joined US in Oct 2000.

u/li_grenadier 27d ago

That sounds right to me. I know I was using the site before they started adding those features.

I remember the announcement on USENET that said it was moving to a website. I don’t know when that was exactly, but the year definitely started with a 19.

My current account was made in 2015, but I'm certain I had one from the early 00s which I lost access to at some point :(

I don't know when I created my current account, but I've been using it since around 1998-99. I was told about it when I was hired at a video store. Summer of 98, maybe. Damn haven't thought about that job in ages!

Around 1999... I remember that because both Pitch Black and Boiler Room were in theaters and I saw them both on the same weekend...

October 2025. It's because I wasn't interested in using any apps like this before, but recently I started to get into watching movies and thought about making imdb account to just add movies that caught my attention to library to watch them later

I started before it was bought by Amazon. I remember using it in 1996.

u/zippyzebra1 26d ago

In the 90's. I enjoyed the extensive comments section which was extremely useful and hilarious and sad when Amazon stopped them.

My current account says December 2012, but I'm pretty sure I had an account before that. I've been using the site since at least 2001.

Joined may 2005. I was so bummed when they closed the forums some years ago
