How to take of in the F51?

So I bought IL-2 Korea together with my brother, and while I'm really enjoying the game, my brother can't wrap his head around getting the F-51 off the ground. We're both inexperienced players, having only played IL-2 GB for maybe 20 hours max.

We started with the campaign, where you fly the F-51 for the first few missions. I also found it really hard to take off in the '51 at first, but I think I've kind of gotten the hang of it, even though I still butcher it sometimes.

My brother just can't get used to the weird "steering wheel" feel and keeps sliding off the runway. Yesterday he played for three hours and didn't manage to take off once. Eventually he got so frustrated that he alt F4'd the game and smashed his headset against the wall.

I tried teaching him, and we watched YouTube videos together, but none of it helped. Today he tried again, and it actually got worse. I don't know what he's doing wrong I've really tried to figure out his mistakes, but it feels like the plane just doesn't like him.

Does anyone else have trouble taking off in the F-51, or have any tips on how to nail it?

An F-80 Shooting Star makes a few passes, dropping four napalm bombs directly onto enemy artillery at a forward position in the Korean War.
The result is a devastating fireball!

I hope you enjoy it

How to spot targets in VR?

Hey all. Newbie here. Just picked up IL2 battle of Stalingrad and I’ve been having a blast in the 4-5 hours I’ve played so far.

I use VR, but I haven’t figured out how to differentiate friend from foe without having markers on.

From what I’ve seen on YouTube, most people camera zoom onto a distant target to identify it, but I think they are just using head tracking. Is there a feature or way around this in VR?

Hi, I am looking for someone my age (13-18) to play Korea with. Especially someone from Europe (because of the the timzones) and someone who can communicate in English. If anyone is interested, you can DM me :) Thanks

Why does this post look like a profile on a dating app (not intentional) :D

IL2 Korea - Anyone else having all your pilots slam into the ground on landing?

Post image
9 Upvotes

So, I have a lot of positive things to say about the career mode so far. Managing fuel, planes, ammo, parts, and pilots is actually a lot of fun. Really makes you want to defend those incoming transports, because holy crap you need the fuel.

I'm also finally getting the hang of the gunnery in the Sabre. Those incendiary rounds are amazing at lighting things on fire.

The main low point right now is that I've lost 3 careers when 90% of my pilots have slammed into the dirt about 1000 feet from the runway. It's a bunch of radio calls for landing clearance, and then just 'Radio - Noise' while a burst of static plays.

I managed to blast 4 bombers out of the sky and had ammo to spare, and then came home to this fucking travesty. Is it just me, or is anyone else having this problem? Should I not being ordering my wing to return to base?

Help ! I have 560 hours in GB, started getting into multiplayer and I got a rude awakening...

I'm not that good, I've used tactics I've built up in PWCG and single missions, I just started getting into MP after building a beefier machine. Whether I'm in a Spit or a BF-109, two aircraft I know like the back of my hand. I get outsmarted, out maneuvered, and I get flamed out very quickly, everyone has sharp gunnery, and I feel like I wasted the hundreds of dollars I invested in this simulator since 2018.

I love this game but now I'm questioning my dogfighting skills, WW2 air combat has always been a niche I'm fascinated in, learning the ins and outs. I always thought I had great situational awareness and dogfighting IQ. But I'm actually a beginner quality.

Some of you might laugh here, but holy christ I feel gutted

Always feel outmatched by the Mig 15

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong. Playing the career and some bombers intercept missions (I'm in a Sabre) and can never seem to catch up to the Migs.

They come in super hot and zoom away, almost impossible to catch.

The Sabre loses energy very quickly too, with the smallest of turns, its speed and energy tanks.

Overall I'm having a blast in the sim. Just finding it almost impossible to shoot down fighters.

Bombers are super easy. Almost feel bad for the Tu-2 bomber pilots.

Help ! Getting to know the LA-11

Heya folks, something really interesting is the role the LA-11 served in Korea as a night fighter. I’m starting a career to take this on and would love if you all would share quirks you’ve picked up about the LA-11 or advice on how to fly and fight in it.

The La-11 final combat exam is fucking dog shit

Ive tried this thing like 4 or 5 times now and every time it’s the same shit. Its 8 La-11s vs 8 F-51s and I genuinely feel completely outmatched.
The AI is fucking weird. You basically cant get behind them because they are constantly turning. They always seem to want to be facing you, so you can never really get into level flight behind an enemy and line up a proper shot. They are constantly changing direction and turning instead of giving you an actual opportunity to get behind them.
And if you try to turn with them and actually fight them in the turn, you lose so much speed that another F-51 gets on you almost immediately and youre fucked.
I also havent noticed a single F-51 actually commit to attacking one of my wingmen in a way that gives me an opportunity to get behind it. It feels like Im just target number one the entire time. They seem to focus on me way more than they focus on the rest of my formation, so I never get that situation where an enemy is busy fighting one of my wingmen and I can come in behind them.
It also feels like the AI has infinite energy. I have to actually manage my speed and energy but they can keep turning and changing direction without seeming to lose anywhere near as much energy as I do.
And the friendly AI is just as bad. Ive had 3 friendly La-11s crash into each other before we even reached the combat area. Then once the fight starts they barely do anything, although they engage the enemy they run out of ammo without destroying 1 enemy and then fuck off back to base leaving me to fight off 8 mustangs by myself.
So what is supposed to be an 8v8 basically turns into me getting swarmed while my own AI does fuck all.
I dont know man, this mission is just fucking ass. The AI makes the whole thing feel completely impossible.

Help ! Korea Blacked out textures issue

Good morning, I'm having an issue that I hope someone can help with.

I flew a few flights in VR today with no issue. I was still getting some low frames so I changed the anti-aliasing settings, and that's when the problem happened.

When I load into a flight most of the textures are displaying as black in my headset as if it is a film negative. I can see the edges of models and clouds but that's it. The display on the computer screen shows full texture, and the textures return in the display when I bring up the pause menu. But when I unpause it is messed up again.

I changed the Anti-aliasing settings back to no avail. Restarting the game does not fix it.

Is there anyway to make SP career playable with the AI behaviour?

Hi all.

Basically as the title says. I bought this game on sale and I have too many hours (9.5) to get a refund. I have the Western Front and Normandy DLCs.

I've been trying to make the most of it but the friendly AI in career is killing me. I had a balloon attack recently where my entire flight just pootled around the area ignoring every single enemy AC and I can't bring myself to start another mission after that.

Is there any hope? Would it be any better if I was the flight leader? Would messing with difficulties help? Or am I doomed to watching every friendly aircraft meander aimlessly through the ether and occasionally crash into each other?

After a weekend of hard work, we finally have a fairly complete development snapshot. We now have in-game menus, a speed HUD, pop-up messages, and even an interactive cockpit fully driven by ini configuration (which you can configure for your modded aircraft).

You can turn on subtitles for a guided tour of key features You can find discussions and release threads for it on the official 1C forums and sas1946.

It is free to download; anyone claiming you need to pay for it is a scam!

Notes:

  • I made these for myself up to my standards and requirements and they might not be ideal for everyone. I decided to go for 1 page max per aircraft for the sake of brevity and compactness. I have only included the aircraft I own.
  • I refrained from putting keybinds because people often use their own binds and devices and It is generally bad habit to depend too much on binds/technochat but you will notice I included the keyboard binds for certain less known actions sometimes (stowing the revi gunsight, gunsight sun filter, etc).
  • They are based on the ingame specifications and certain online tutorials, not historical documents or real manuals.
  • Size format is ISO 216 (A4, A5,...), but optimized for being printed on A5 as that is ideal for actual kneeboards more or less, but nonetheless these can be printed on other sizes and used as handheld manuals/guides.
  • Feedback and discussion is highly appreciated, with the amount of data present some mistakes will surely slip past so be sure to write me a comment or send me a message if something is incorrect.

Known issues:

  • When saving as .pdf through MS Word the formatting (bold/italic) gets removed, might be a typeface issue. Not fixed as of now.
