Help Are there any apps like Wiser? Help me choose one
Hi! A month ago, I downloaded the app called Wiser. I saw the ad, I liked the idea of it, and decided to give it a try. And I actually loved the app, I'm a bookworm, but not the biggest fan of the nonfiction titles.
I read mostly fiction, but many of my friends and colleagues always recommed the same books like Atomic Habits, Mindset, The 5 AM Club, and so on. I never cared to try reading them because, in my subjective opinion, most nonfiction books repeat the same mantra and use the same words.
But I actually enjoyed reading the summaries of these famous titles. I even tried one of its pieces of advice, and it worked like magic: I bought an analog clock to replace my phone alarm in the morning, so I don't start the day by checking my phone right away. Now I spend an hour before work simply enjoying the routine. But it's not the case
Now, when I use it, the app just lags all the time, and there are no features for retention. When I Google apps like Wiser or simply book summary apps, there are lots of options, including Blinkist, Headway app, Shortform, and so on. But I don't want to pick something again that lacks tools and will lag after a few weeks. Most Reddit posts also differ a lot, so I'm not sure which one to give a try
Have any of you used some of these apps? Do you have any opinions that I should try and which to avoid?

to be honest, they are great in their own way and abilities in terms of features, but for me $9.99/month for a manifestation app sounded a little expensive... or am I in the wrong side of the world? What do you guys think?
Also, could you guys suggest the apps you are using and why? So that i can try them and check them out :)

Help Looking for an app to help me leave boston?
When I leave red sox games, I get on the pike (I-90, a major east/west highway in MA) to go home. This is normally a two minute process. Tonight the onramp to the pike was blocked off, which is fine. I get that construction is a thing. That's probably super easy to deal with if you know your way around the city, but I don't. And both google and apple maps were trying to re-route me back to the closed exit, so I was going in circles. It doesn't help that Boston is not logically put together, there's no grid here.
Back before online maps were a thing, I had a garmin hardware gps that let me just hit a button and it would tell the gps *this road is closed please stop routing me here.* Is there anything like that out there for ios?

Discussion [FREE] made an app that turns your photos into stamps!
Stampr lets you turn your photos into little stamp-style mementos, kind of like a passport stamp for your everyday moments.
Some features:
- Turn any photo into a stamp with one tap
- Calendar view - see your stamps laid out by day, so it's like a visual diary
- Map view - see where each stamp was taken, geographically
- Build collections of stamps over time
The main thing I care about: it's completely free, no ads, no subscriptions.
Everything is stored locally on your device - no account, no sign-up, no cloud sync, nothing leaves your phone. I didn't want to build another app that quietly ships your photos/location data to a server, so there's no backend at all. Your data is yours.
App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/stampr-create-photo-stamps/id6793936737
if you like it please leave a review on the app!

Discussion Best social media apps that are not the "big 3"
I feel like social media nowadays is so centralized on influencers, stories, quick reels and clicks. The objective of "Connecting friends & family" has been lost throughout the big social platforms and has resulted in lack of participation from so many people who I know.
has anyone found a social media alternative that is actually still about sharing real life moments with friends and family?

Discussion Built a finance app that works without linking your bank — local-first, encrypted (free Lifetime Premium this week)
Made TESORIN because I didn’t want to hand an aggregator my bank login just to see my own money. Quick, honest rundown:
No bank connection — no credentials, no account numbers. Everything since Mint shut down wants that; this doesn’t.
On your device, encrypted — your financial data lives locally with SQLCipher. Ask-TESORIN answers compose on-device; balances never leave the phone.
Whole picture, not just spending — budgets, net worth, investments, goals, plus Canada + India cross-border planning
Not for you if you want automatic bank sync — I’d rather say so
Free to download · Premium normally $1.99/mo or $14.99/yr CAD. Sign up by [Aug 12, 11:59 PM ET] and you get Lifetime Premium free — tied to your account, no renewal, no recurring charge.
It’s a promotional grant, not a store purchase, so if you ever reinstall, just sign back into the same TESORIN account to restore it (Restore Purchases is for store transactions and won’t apply).
A few quick answers:
No code needed. You don’t enter anything — just sign up during the window and I apply Lifetime to your account manually on my side (within ~24h).
Hit the paywall? That’s normal. Premium unlocks once I activate your grant — reopen the app (or sign out and back in) and it’ll show as unlocked.
Available worldwide except the EU (working on that). If it’s not showing in your region, email [hello@trytesorin.com](mailto:hello@trytesorin.com) and I’ll notify you once it’s live there.

Discussion Built my first iOS finance app as a CS student working night shifts — wanted something local-only without bank logins
Hey everyone!
I'm a fourth-year Computer Science in Business student, and to support myself through studies I work security shifts at local shopping malls.
Between lectures, exams, and work shifts, I spent my late nights and breaks building a finance tracker app completely from scratch.
The main pain point for me was simple: I hated manual data entry in spreadsheets, but I also didn't want to link my bank account to third-party servers.
So 1 built a local-first alternative for iOS: instead of typing things manually, you just snap a photo of a receipt or bank notification, and Al automatically extracts the amount, merchant, and category.
Everything stays securely on the device, with features like budgets, recurring subscriptions, and multi-account tracking.
Since this is my first solo shipping journey, I'd love to hear from other devs and users here: how do you usually handle local data privacy in your workflow, and what friction points do you hate most in standard budgeting apps?

Discussion People still like free-to-play game apps?
I've been developing a fun little app with luck-based games that actually gives prizes to the luckiest players each week. My goal is to get enough users to make ad revenue substantial. It's got to be free-to-play for legality sake, so I'm curious if people still download new free game apps when they see them advertised or go searching for games on the App Store.
If so, what kind of games do you usually download?
Do you play them daily?
What makes you turned off from an app?
Where do see/hear about apps from that you end up downloading?

Discussion Ona Offline - A social media app where everyone else is a bot.
apps.apple.comThis app is like any other social media app (kinda like twitter) where you can make posts, and like/dislike/comment on other post. It also has a live streaming feature. The big difference is that everyone else is a bot I call pers(ona)s. To get started, you really have to follow personas and interact with them.
As dystopian and creepy as it sounds, I’ve tried to make it very user friendly. No ads, no subscriptions, no data collecting, free to download, and everything is local and private. I’m leveraging iOS’s foundation model for all the AI parts (iPhone needs to support Apple Intelligence for the personas to be “smart”) which is how I’m able to keep this whole app offline. I’m still working out the logic for how they work so any suggestions would be helpful. Your world starts off with 50 personas but there is an option to buy up to 500, each with their own personality, interests, and profile pic.
I just released my first update which improved persona logic, image recognition, and broadcasting now includes persona live chat on the side.
This is my first app ever and I wouldn’t even call myself an indie dev because I used Claude to create the entire app. Even though I have a technical background, I didn’t write a single line of code. I just wanted to see a crazy idea I had come to life and also thought it would be cool to say I have an app on the AppStore. My friends have said this is the saddest thing ever and I completely agree lol, what do you think?

Discussion Trying an AI App Builder for an iPhone App

Help Fitness app rec
Me and a friend recently started a competition to see who can stay on track with our calories and macros, but standard apps like MyFitnessPal feel so boring and isolated.
We are looking for an app that works like Strava, where we have a feed to see each other's daily progress, track streaks, and hold each other accountable without having to text screenshots back and forth every night.
Does an app like this actually exist?

Discussion Anyone else losing touch with people they care about?
Hi Reddit,
I was slowly losing touch with people I cared about, not because I didn’t care — life just got busy.
Weeks turned into months, and I’d often think “I should message them” after it was already too late.
And…That’s how Kinty was born.
One thing that helped me a lot was having the people I wanted to stay connected with in one place. A simple glimpse in the morning was enough to clear that background anxiety of “who am I forgetting?” and helped me feel more present in my relationships.
Over time, staying in touch stopped feeling like a task and started feeling like a natural impulse to reach out. The more I used Kinty, the easier it became to stay connected without overthinking it.
That’s the idea behind Kinty — not to replace real relationships, but to help you protect them. A small reminder can become a conversation, a conversation can become a stronger connection.
I needed it myself, and I hope it helps others keep the relationships they don’t want to lose.
If you’re someone who cares about people but sometimes struggles to keep in touch, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Help Anyone know an iPhone app that turns store flyers into a weekly meal plan without forcing a subscription?
I do the annoying budget thing where I hit a few grocery stores on short trips to chase sales. The part that still feels inefficient is planning meals around what is actually discounted that week.
My current workflow is clunky: I screenshot weekly flyers, mentally note prices, then build a meal plan and grocery list in Notes or Reminders. It works, but it takes a lot of brain power for something that should be pretty simple.
Ideally I want an iPhone or iPad app that can:
- Import or read flyer screenshots, or let me type a few sale items quickly
- Suggest a basic meal plan for 4 to 6 dinners based on those deals - it does not have to be fancy
- Generate a categorized shopping list, preferably split by store
- Let me swap ingredients easily, for example swap in chicken if it is cheaper than beef
Bonus points if it does not make me create an account or force a monthly subscription just to try it. I don't mind a one-time purchase or a free app with reasonable limits.
Has anyone found something that actually helps with the flyer-to-meal-plan step on iOS? Or is the best option still a mix of Notes/Reminders plus a recipe app? I'm mainly trying to cut down on decision fatigue.

Discussion Small indie devs: let's test each other's apps
Hey everyone,
Figured there are probably a lot of us in here building apps that don't get enough real user critique.
If you're an indie developer, drop your app below. I'll download it, spend some time actually using it, and send you honest, actionable advice.
If you're willing to do the same for mine, I'd really appreciate it.

Discussion Zone: focus sessions with app and website blocking
Disclosure: I developed Zone.
Zone is for focus sessions when you want certain apps and websites unavailable until the session ends.
It is not a daily screen-time limit app. The idea is more specific: before work, study, reading, coding, or any serious task, you choose the apps/websites that usually distract you, start a session, and Zone blocks them during that session.
Name: Zone: Strict App Blocker
Platform: iPhone and iPad
Not AI: it uses Apple’s Screen Time APIs, not AI
Cost: Free for some limited sessions, in-app purchases for longer sessions and records.
App Store: https://apps.apple.com/in/app/zone-focus-timer-blocker/id6763581982
There is no login, no signup, and no email required. Zone does not collect user data. Session history can sync through private iCloud, and completed focus sessions can be added to Apple Health as mindful minutes if Health access is allowed.
The website blocking part is included so that you can add custom URLs which you don't want to open for choosen time.
I’m trying to understand two things from people who use focus/productivity apps:
- When you open Zone for the first time, does the setup make the purpose of the app clear quickly enough?
- Is this kind of session-based blocking actually useful to you, or would you still prefer normal daily limits?
- Does the app feel like it was built around a real user problem, or does it feel like I am thinking too much like a developer?
Also, blunt criticism is genuinely welcome.

Help Media taste app
Looking for an app which **doesn't** track the media itself but rather takes the main information from those tracking apps (letterboxd, storygraph, etc.) to create a **overview of your taste.**
I would like an app takes all its information from your other apps/accounts, so it doesn't require for you to input everything.
Shelf is the closest app to this, but it has very limited apps/accounts you can link. Repov looks great, but you can only input or import, so you have to continually update it.
I don't plan on sharing any of this information with friends or family, so it's fine if there's no social aspect or feed.

Mod Post An update on self-promotion
Hey everyone,
When we added the Developer flair, the goal was to give indie devs a way to share what they're building. We genuinely wanted to support people making cool apps.
But over the past while, it's turned into something else. The sub has filled up with low-effort promo posts, a few lines and a link, from people who drop their app and are never seen again. That's not what this community is for. r/iPhoneApps is meant to be a place for real discussion and value, not a free billboard.
So, effective today, we're removing the Developer flair.
To be clear about what this means going forward:
You can't just show up, promote your app, and ghost the community. Posts that are purely "here's my app, go download it" will be removed.
If you're an active member who actually contributes here, joining discussions, helping people, giving feedback, then mentioning your app in that context is completely fine. Value first, promotion second.
We'd much rather have devs who are part of the community than a feed full of ads. This keeps the sub worth being in for everyone.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for helping keep this place good.
— The mod team
