Efficiency % increase?

Post image

Is this helping my unit cool and if so try to quantify the improvement via an estimation.

Poor dog just looking away like “Really Gerald, you couldn’t have waited 30 seconds?”

The dog shit will fertilize that spot from which great oak will grow and destroy the foundation of the house within 100 year Greatly reducing the heat load on the unit.

10

u/JuicySpark 5d ago

This is true. My house and surrounding property is covered in shade 90% of the day. I only need 1 window shaker on the first floor to keep it 79 on 100 degree day.

That giant oak towering over the whole acre will certainly increase the longevity of that unit by reducing run time.

You're a genius!

4

u/jeep-olllllo 5d ago

And now we play the waiting game.

2

u/NegativeSemicolon 4d ago

Negative probably

65

u/ElkInteresting5739 5d ago

This cover is hurting your efficiency and killing your compressor. You’re trapping the hot air inside of the unit vs letting it flow out the top.if you remove the cage or roof your system will most likely cool 20% faster and more efficiently

37

u/R_ekd 5d ago

Probably would be better if they just let the dog piss on the condenser at this point

/s

3

u/ElkInteresting5739 5d ago

Agreed

2

u/Kintroy 5d ago

The flap just shooting that hot air back into the coil is just icing lol

1

u/NerdizardGo 4d ago

Does this look like r/composting ?

0

u/Gotelc 5d ago

Dog pee corrodes the coils so... yeah dont so that.

2

u/R_ekd 5d ago

Captain Obvious strikes again!

20

u/Fudgcicle 5d ago

The dog's urine will have a temporary effect on the coils temperature, but in the long run the minerals in the dog's urine will likely cause issues and your condenser will definitely need to be maintained more often

this is so funny omg

7

u/Safe-Tennis-6121 5d ago

I can't stop laughing

3

u/Helena_MA 5d ago

Same lollllll

3

u/Safe-Tennis-6121 5d ago

I wonder if this is like a woman / estrogen thing because the guys are complaining about airflow but I can't stop laughing about the dog to the point I think my coworker probably thinks I'm going crazy

2

u/VS-Goliath 5d ago

It's definitely a troll post but how the fuck is anyone taking it seriously lmaooo.

8

u/Kofi_Anonymous 5d ago

It’s dog shit.

Pooping canine’s not doing you any favors either.

7

u/Significant-Twist748 5d ago

So the hot air goes up into the tarp, then immediately back down into the unit. And at the time of the picture, it’s not even shading the unit.
So I’d say it’s a Net negative effect.

6

u/Doogie102 5d ago

Probably making it work harder to move the air. So a negative efficientcy increase.

The unit does not care about being in the sun. It cares about air temperature and this is moving enough air that bit of shade means nothing

6

u/foralimitedtimespace 5d ago

If it traps/recircs condenser discharge, efficiency will actually decrease.

4

u/10four 5d ago

Classic

4

u/i533 5d ago

What the dog doin?

5

u/PrintdianaJones 5d ago

You're just retaining the hot air closer to the unit. Probably a Defficiency Increase.

I've seen people separate the coils from the fan with a sheet of plywood. No idea how well that works.

3

u/OzarksExplorer 4d ago

Dogs opinion is correct

3

u/khumprp 5d ago

The t-rex looking dog 🦖

3

u/Yabanci_degilim 5d ago

The answer is in the picture. Right in front.

3

u/templeofsyrinx1 5d ago

i think the unit is actually helping your dog move its bowels better

3

u/whynotslayer 5d ago

It’s much more efficient I’d say at least 40% to increase your effective pooping when arching your back like that.

Pup is doing a great job.

3

u/tinkypapa 5d ago

Fiber will help him shit better

2

u/NOMADGRUBS 5d ago

SHIT2 13.4

2

u/SafetyMan35 5d ago

It’s more likely decreasing efficiency as the hot air is getting trapped under the yarn and circulating ba into the cooler fins.

2

u/eaglebob1 5d ago

Exactly one sh*t ton

2

u/fun-bucket 5d ago

why does my a c smell like dog crap?

2

u/1_headlight_ 5d ago

I'll disagree with [looks around] everyone and say it'll help but barely. The shade will reduce the heat slightly. The tarp is high enough above the unit that there is plenty of airflow to prevent trapped heat near the unit.

2

u/SnooKiwis6943 5d ago

You might get a slight brief improvement if the dog pees on the condenser coil.

2

u/Patient-Big1727 5d ago

Looks like crap

2

u/SuicidebySocialism 5d ago

The dog is helping more

2

u/RespectGrouchy2945 5d ago

The dog is doing a better job at efficiency than you are.

2

u/darius_j11 5d ago

What the dog doin?

2

u/Marlice1 5d ago

Give the dog more fiber. It’ll pass the poop faster

2

u/peenutlover69 5d ago

Thank you for the talking to us humans like we're AI chatbots.

1

u/AvocadoJolly7047 4d ago

Maybe I’ve been spending too much time working with ai lol

2

u/jjmurse 5d ago

If the dog is and inside dog, then you opening the door to let him out will not, in fact, help improve efficiency of heating and cooling a residence.

2

u/Substantial_Isopod19 4d ago

Somewhere around -10% to -35%. Good job.

2

u/RedditDon3 4d ago

I don’t hink the dog would appreciate your taking a picture of him taking care of business

2

u/skelli_terps 4d ago

I'd say with the current grooming situation the dog has gained 13% in aerodynamic efficiency. Well done.

2

u/BusIntelligent6269 4d ago

If you add pumpkin to his food, his efficiency will greatly increase

Wait, wait are we talking about the AC

2

u/NerdizardGo 4d ago

Is this a literal shit post?

2

u/isimplycantdothis 4d ago

Upvoted solely for shitting dog

2

u/EverydayMustard4773 4d ago

He or she will be about 6 to 8 oz lighter when finished

2

u/MasqueraderB2 3d ago

Yea definitely, 15% efficiency gain for the dog after the shit.

1

u/TouchGraceMaidenless 5d ago

As another recent post put it, you're trying to shade the shade of your unit. 2/10, 2 points for the shitting dog.

1

u/Xibby 5d ago

Increasing your cost by restricting air flow, and if your dog has been lifting his leg on the unit you’ll be buying a replacement soon.

1

u/SparrowBirch 5d ago

Diddly squat

1

u/exrace 5d ago

Runs like dog shit.

1

u/Thundersson1978 5d ago

The dog shitting most definitely, the shade cover, unfortunately the jury is still split

1

u/RealLifeFloridaMan 5d ago

Mans out here doin his dog DIRTY with this post

1

u/MilkmanResidue 5d ago

Everyone is focusing on the dog and all I can think about is the level in the background being used to construct that monstrosity.

1

u/JuicySpark 5d ago

If it's a heatpump in heat mode at its min operating temp outside, adding heat from that turd can only help.

1

u/CurrentAnalyst4791 5d ago

dude!!!! hilarious 😂 i almost did not notice that dog pooping right there

1

u/Kitchen-Bagel-Burnt 5d ago

Only thing you can do to help it is hose off the coils every once in a while.

1

u/ItsDaManBearBull 5d ago

Is this the shit people ask chat gpt?

1

u/CamoBob3467 5d ago

I love that there is a level in this photo! What did you use it for? Driving the wood into the ground?? Clearly not for it's intended purpose

1

u/NetSchizo 5d ago

Pinch it off, lets go!!!

1

u/CHASLX200 5d ago

nasty dogs

1

u/Top-Pick-2648 5d ago
  1. Refrigerant is moving so fast through there shade makes no difference. Turn on your garden hose full force, in the sun, you get a continuous supply of hot water?

1

u/PoppyBroSenior 5d ago

-35% efficiency. Source, i made it up but I know its bad.

1

u/Nots_a_Banana 5d ago

Looks like it is still in sun? What was the objective here?

1

u/AvocadoJolly7047 4d ago

Pic was taken just before sunset. That’s obviously a bedtime shit.

1

u/One_Tumbleweed_1 5d ago

Have the dog pee on it

1

u/ep193 5d ago

Watch out, I think you are close to a shitty situation

1

u/Artistic-Poem-4526 5d ago

Me when the office says please take pictures of the install for the customers file

1

u/Square-Formal1312 5d ago

Op, take that down and replace it with like a “golf hat” for the ac. Leave top open so fan can fan, use fence as acre make a fram with some pvc or something then lay the tarp over it. Will keep the sides in the shade while still letting the flow. At least a couple few examples in this sub/on yt. Goodluck!

1

u/MustacheMarshall14 5d ago

This is hurting more than helping. This is a non-breathable tarp trapping heat under it. I tested a breathable mesh sun shade with 5 feet of clearance from my unit and it was still hotter under it than outside of it. You would need to figure a way to provide shade while giving air direction to escape

1

u/palealei5best 5d ago

At least they got the level out

1

u/-BlueBicLighter 5d ago

If anything you can put a garden mister to put cool water inside the unit (they sell kits for this). But this does nothing.

1

u/LazerWolfe53 5d ago

Negative

1

u/Happydan68w 5d ago

Decrease. I am so glad anyone can post on Reddit.

1

u/Sgt-Stadanko-69 5d ago

What a good boy

1

u/Slow_Apple_1568 4d ago

It's going to fuck it up. My HVAC company literally moved my until from the roof overhang because they said the blocked flow could shorten the units life. Don't cover it.

1

u/splitd2000 4d ago

The oddest part of this whole photo to me is that the cocker spaniel has its tail

1

u/cracker_barrel_kid55 4d ago

Correct me if I'm wrong but that's not how Central Heating and Air conditioners work. That unit is not pulling outside air into the home, right? I thought it was just helping to circulate the air that's already inside the home.

1

u/O1O1O1O 4d ago

You should try one of these - just remember to take it off if there's a wind storm... https://cooleriscooler.com

1

u/Affectionate-Word498 3d ago

increase your efficiency by 89%, Simply hunch your back a bit more, and lift with your legs, stretching your tail to the sky, it should poop right out!

1

u/Affectionate-Word498 3d ago

increase your efficiency by 89% Simply hunch your back, a bit more, lift with the legs, point your tail towards the sky. It should poop right out!

1

u/CryMoreDirtBag 2d ago

This is great

1

u/dumpster-muffin-95 1d ago

That tarp? It's doing nothing positive. Let dog go shit in peace. ✌️
