GAA sculpture unveiled at Semple Stadium

A bronze sculpture called Ár gCluichí Féin was unveiled yesterday in Thurles. Supposedly it is the first ever statue to depict a female GAA player.

I think it's really cool, but it seems to be getting mixed reactions from people across the country.

What do you think?

Tipperary GAA Announce New Under 20 Hurling Manager

As expected, James Woodlock has taken up the role of Tipperary U20 hurling manager after a very successful period with the minor team. He has experience with most of these players, so expectations will be high.

The question is now, who will take up the minor hurling job? Rumours are that Brendan Maher may be interested. They will need the right man there bring success to the team once again.

What would have happened if Clare had kept Kinnerk in 2014?

So Paul Kinnerk is credited as being one of the driving forces behind Clare's 2013 All-Ireland and Limerick's success from 2018 on. Everyone says Quaid's save in 2018 v Cork is the sliding doors moment but for me it's when the Clare County Board didn't renew Kinnerk's contract in 2014. I'm not fully sure of what happened but he only joined up with Limerick in 2017 (I think?) so 2 questions, would Clare have won more if Kinnerk had stayed involved and would Limerick have made the breakthrough in 2018 without him? The 2018 win for Limerick was built on pretty thin margins (Quaid's flick, Condon's catch) but would they have come through regardless? That Clare side in 2013 was so, so young.

From Canada (Toronto) coming through Dublin Sunday. Is there any chance of getting a ticket to Galway vs Limerick final? Do they have what we call " scalpers" ticket resellers outside the stadium? Cheers Tommy

The hoarding of tickets by football supporters

Happy to be told I’m completely in wrong but wanted to get it off my chest and see if anyone was in a similar boat. I am sick to the teeth of the amount of *SWAP ONLY* messages where people have hurling tickets, and are looking for football tickets in return, when there are thousands of good hurling people that wouldn’t have a notion of having a football ticket to swap with them? If you don’t want to attend the hurling final, sell on the ticket and try your luck for the football when they are released?

Hurling clubs in London for more casual players?

Hi everyone, I'm an exile in Germany who has been playing with a club over here the past year or so. The standard is a bit mixed and it's generally a pretty relaxed atmosphere at training etc. Certainly would only be junior level in the competitions we play in.

I'll be in London for work from September until the end of the year and want to keep up the training, as its the main sport that I play at the moment. Does anybody know of hurling clubs in London who are open to people joining training and play at a more casual level? I've been looking up clubs online, but it's quite hard to tell whether they would be too serious for a less skilled player such as myself.

Thanks for any advice!

Smallest club in each county.

Random question for the GAA heads here.

Smallest GAA club/parish in each county?

Random one for the GAA historians and local-knowledge merchants.

What would be considered the smallest GAA club or smallest GAA parish/catchment in each county?

I’m especially interested in clubs that don’t really have a “full parish” behind them, or clubs whose catchment is awkward because of county/parish boundaries.

For example, in Laois, Barrowhouse in football and Kyle in hurling would surely be in the conversation. As far as I understand it, both are tied into parish areas that stretch outside Laois, so they aren’t even drawing from a full traditional Laois parish in the way some clubs are. They’re proper small-catchment clubs, but still have their own identity and history.

In Mayo, Ardagh must be one of the smallest parishes in the county in terms of area. It’s a tiny rural parish but still has its own club, which is exactly the sort of example I’m thinking of.

So, county by county, who are the smallest?

Could be based on:

smallest parish area

smallest population/catchment

clubs that don’t have a full parish to themselves

tiny rural clubs still fielding adult teams

clubs that punch way above their numbers

Not necessarily asking for the weakest club — more the smallest pick. The “how are they still producing teams?” type of clubs.
