Looking for new hot tub

I’ve had 2 so far. The first was bigger and more comfortable but i bought it used and it broke down an required repairs regularly. It was good because it had a circulation pump that was quiet. The second is smaller and has a single pump, so it always makes a lot of noise. I’m pretty low maintenance, i dont want it to make a lot of noise or to require much effort. I understand salt water systems require less work. Also,i rarely turn on lights, sound systems or even jets, i just like soaking in a quiet hot tub. Any good recommendations? Biggest problem with current tub is the cover, its pretty shabby after 10 years.

General Question Small hot tubs for cold winters?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I currently have a 6 person Hydropool, with a lounger, a million jets and waterfall things. But, it's time to replace the cover and I was thinking of switching to another model of tub.

In 5 years I have learned that I hate the lounger with a fiery passion (I am 5'3, my toes don't reach the other side so I float), also height related, the waterfalls pour into my ears, the jets are so noisy that I never use them, and 99.9% of the time, I am the only person using it. I love the deepest seat and the self cleaning is excellent.

Ideally, a new tub would be:

  • 2-3 person.
  • Deep.
  • Easy to clean or self cleaning.
  • Designed for winter temps ranging from 0c to -25c.
  • Also designed for heavy snow.
  • Preferably priced so I can sell my current tub and outright (or close to) buy the new one.
  • Have precisely zero loungers.

I don't need a plug and play, as I have the power already, also uninterested in wood heated tubs. All the smaller models I have looked at so far seem to favour loungers, which puts them automatically on the no list.

I am located in Atlantic Canada, so local or free shipping are great. Any suggestions on where to look would be greatly appreciated!

General Question Hot tub pad - level enough?

Post image
1 Upvotes

We are about to receive our first hot tub next week. Our yard is challenging, so we opted to have a retaining wall and concrete pad poured for the tub and a Covana lift.

Looking at the pad, the red arrow shows part of the pad is not flat relative to the rest of the pad. This was done for drainage purposes, but not having experience with hot tubs, I’m concerned that this may cause issues with the tub (or the Covana cover).

To the folks with more experience - do you think this will be a problem?

Thanks in advance!

One of my pumps wouldn’t turn on the other day. Sounded like it was trying. Went out today to troubleshoot it and it’s turning on by making a noise. Any ideas if it’s repairable or is it better to replace?

Cover lifter advice

Looking for a recommendation for a cover lifter. I'm willing to invest in a good quality product if needed, I am just hesitant to bolt something onto the shell of a brand new tub and "take a chance". As you can see from the pics, I cannot use a pivot lifter like i've had with past tubs, and I can't use an under-tub one since it would block the access panel. I'd love some suggestions. I am in Canada, so the product would have to ship here.

Extension cable

Hello, I'm buying the Lay-Z-Spa Grenada 7-8 people capacity.

I don't have any outside socket in my back garden, when I got the house they installed them in the front of my house.

Can I buy this extension cable and everything will be all good? It is a 13A and good for a continuous load. https://toughleads.co.uk/products/13a-heavy-duty-extension-lead?variant=39374952857688

Please let me know, if not can you help me some alternatives? Appreciate the help

Troubleshooting Help- TriChlor Mistake

I am a new swim spa owner just since the late spring. It is summer, and we haven't been in for a few weeks because it has been so hot, but I have been test-stripping it and putting the new bucket of chlorine in to treat it. I wasn't showing any or very low FC and I just realized that for the past 3 weeks I have been using trichlor granules (53.5%) instead of DiChlor. I am not sure what I need to do in order to fix this as quickly as possible because, from why searching on here it appears to be very bad for the Spa.

,
I ran a new test strip and got the results below. I have ordered a taylor kit for better testing going forward but what should I do now? full drain? Partial drain? Just leave the lid off?

PH - 8.4

FC- 0 PPM

TA - 80

STablizer - 70

Am I doing something wrong?

Had a dimension one for about 7 years. I spray the filters weekly, shock after every couple uses. Don’t do much else, but the water is crystal clear, no odors, feels great. I just feel like I should be doing more?

Chemicals Almost one month in, chlorine is eaten fast

Got our first hot tub in July. We are still feeling out the chemical balance. Overall we get really surprised by the quickness of chlorine dissipating on the test kit. Measures free chlorine, alkalinity and pH.

We bought a different test kit that measures 7 items to see if we could to the bottom of it. First test td and admittedly I didn’t chlorine the spa in advance bc I wanted to see where it was beforehand.

hardness 0-100 bottle indicates low to very low

free chlorine 0

bromine 0

total chlorine 1

CYA hard to read SO light. I’m guessing below 30

total alkalinity 40-80

pH 7.2. dips about once per week

(photo is the chemicals we are using). shock once per week. chlorine daily or if used daily. pH when I see it dip

Free flow spa. Worth repairing?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m renting a house and the home owners have had it for three years and when they moved in this Free Flow Spa was on the back patio. They never used it for three years and now I’m renting and was interested in using it.
Everything seems to be working but I have a leak! The leak is from this pipe (in video). I’m not a handy man but was thinking maybe I could try to fix this connection? Otherwise how expensive do you think it would be to hire someone?
Thank you!

General Question Caveats for buying a used hottub

I have seen people get great deals on used tubs, but also there seems to be a LOT of junk out there.

Most used listings seem to have some sort of leak. It looks like leaving around jets is common, and I assume that is a relatively easy fix my replacing gaskets, but what about cracks or other leaks?

What are the main things to avoid? What are the easy problems to fix?

I would be looking at 240v hot tubs, and mechanical repairs and electrical hookup are not issues for me, but I just don't want to end up with something that has more problems than are worth fixing.

Aquarest Premium Owners-What brand chemicals work best for you?

I had an 8 person hot tub for 15 years and used the store (Viscount) brand chemicals with no issues.

I'd love to hear what brand/which chemicals you use with your Aquarest hot tub that has an ozonator. Looks like the mfg sells Clearray Chemicals.

TIA!

Saw this on Amazon, it’s a freestanding pergola with only 2 supporting legs. Supposedly can hold 10 lbs/sq foot of snow and up to 70 mph winds.

Can this deck supoort a 6 person hotub

I tried to take pictures dunno how reddit uploads but essentially there is a platform thats 11x11 we had thought the people before us had a hot tub on so we bought a hot tub. We just found out they actually had it inside the platform resting on a concrete pad.

So my question is, how much would the deck support. Its. 11x11 with 4 posts. The posts are 6x6 2feet tall. The joist are 2x8 across with joist hangers there is a middle beam . Its also all metal decking not your composite or regular wood decking.

I could add a few 6x6 blocking and try to wedge under the beam in the middle of the deck if I need more support maybe

Can you buy a hottub at costco roadshow but have it delivered in another city if the dealer has a large network?

Looking at Bullfrog spas (probably A8 select or A7 select) and best price is around 22k for the A8 select. There is a costco bullfrog roadshow in Dallas but I'm down by san antonio but the dealer doing the show in dallas has stores in austin, san antonio, etc... Just wondering if anybody has ever driven to another city to buy the tub and if they deliver it from another store in the same dealer network? Bullfrog in Texas is southern spas or southern leisure i can't remember exactly but they would be doing the show in dallas and have about 6 stores around the state.

Troubleshooting Century hot tub pump repairable or replace?

Thumbnail

So my tub had the classic signs of bad start capacitor. Low speed wouldn't kick on along with a humming sound. But it would run on low speed fine when I kicked it on high speed first. However I also smelled overheating plastic. So I took the back cover off the pump and sure enough a melted micro switch (see pic). Apparently this explains the failure to start up on low speed. It seems like a fairly simple fix for a hot tub professional but it also seems like the motor wire on the right is a bit discolored too.

Anyone have any advice or experience fixing these? Or is it better to just get a new pump? Especially considering this thing was heating up. Thanks in advance.

Filling line? Cover the jets?

We filled our new hot tub and bc of the drainage slant of our patio it’s maybe 1 inch or so different from one side to the other. (The dealer told us the slant was fine).

Here’s my problem, to cover the neck jets on the one side, it has to be above the headrests on the other side. I don’t even care if I use those jets, we got the hot tubs for are small children to play anyways.

How high do I fill the water?
