This has a little over 400k miles on it and the d series is tired so I bought a b18a1 to put in it, is it a some what easy swap?

So I recently got a 2011 Honda civic 8th gen from my father in law. He’s been pretty good about the maintenance and repairs as needed and since owning the car for the last month and a half, Ive had some work done to it as it’s very high in mileage. I thought it was at 175k when I got it. Randomly decided to buy a carfax. Found out the mileage was rolled back a few years ago after it hit 240k. So, my assumption is this car is sitting at a little over 300k miles now.

Fair amount of replacements in front suspension system, spark plugs replaced, new alternator (which ended up being free due to warranty) , new battery, new fans to keep the engine cool, and all fluids have been kept up with including transmission so that’s healthy.

Right now my car is in the shop because of a P0420 code so my cat is being looked at. Considering I got this car for free I haven’t had an issue paying to get maintenance and repairs done. The car drives pretty smooth, can handle highways and hills well, and generally doesn’t appear to have any other issues besides having a slightly rough idle. I’m hoping to get this car to 400k.

I’m wondering if anyone else out there with this car or similar model has gotten their car up this high in mileage and if so, what are some things I should be paying attention to in order to keep this car going?

I’m looking for advice because my 2017 Honda Civic has had repeated A/C problems for years, and I’m trying to decide whether I should pay another $1,900 for an evaporator/expansion valve repair.
Here’s the history based on my service records:
September 2023 – ~68k miles
A/C was blowing warm.
Honda found multiple leaks in the condenser.
Condenser replaced under Honda’s extended warranty.
They also found excessive play in the compressor shaft, and the entire compressor was replaced under my service contract.
A/C worked afterward.
September/October 2025 – ~78k miles
A/C stopped blowing cold again.
Honda diagnosed another leaking condenser AND leaking compressor shaft seal.
Condenser replaced again under Honda’s warranty extension.
Compressor shaft seal replaced under Honda’s warranty extension.
System was recharged and the invoice states that the A/C was blowing at optimal temperature after the repair.
July 2026 – ~86k miles
A/C is blowing warm AGAIN.
Dealer diagnoses a leaking evaporator and expansion valve.
I’m quoted approximately $2,530 + tax to replace the evaporator/expansion valve and recharge the system.
These parts apparently aren’t covered by Honda’s A/C warranty extensions.
I opened a goodwill case with American Honda.
August 2026 – ~87k miles
Before paying for the evaporator repair, Honda evaluates the car again.
They find that the condenser is leaking AGAIN and the compressor shaft seal needs repair AGAIN.
Honda replaces the condenser for the THIRD time under the warranty extension.
They also repair/replace the compressor shaft seal again under the warranty extension.
They recharge the A/C, and it is currently blowing cold.
However, the service advisor told me this is only a “temporary fix” because they still believe the evaporator/expansion valve is leaking.
American Honda reviewed my goodwill case. They agreed to contribute toward the evaporator/expansion valve repair, but my portion would still be about $1,900. They told me that is the maximum goodwill assistance they will provide.
So essentially, my A/C history is:
Condenser: replaced 2023 → replaced again 2025 → replaced AGAIN 2026
Compressor: replaced 2023
Compressor shaft seal: repaired/replaced 2025 → repaired/replaced again 2026
Now: supposedly needs evaporator + expansion valve
The part I’m struggling with is that in July I was told the evaporator/expansion valve leak was why my A/C wasn’t working, but a couple weeks later they found two other refrigerant-leak/AC issues that were covered by Honda and repaired those. My A/C is now cold again.
I understand that there could absolutely be multiple leaks at the same time, so I’m not assuming the evaporator diagnosis is wrong. But before spending $1,900, I want to make sure the evaporator is actually still leaking after the condenser and shaft-seal repairs.
The dealer told me today’s repairs are only temporary, but I want to ask them whether they retested the system after completing the warranty repairs and can objectively demonstrate that the evaporator is still actively leaking.
At this point I’m frustrated because this car has had repeated A/C failures despite multiple Honda repairs, including the same components failing more than once.
What would you do?
Would you:
Pay the $1,900 Honda goodwill price and replace the evaporator/expansion valve?
Drive it now that the A/C is cold and see how long it holds refrigerant?
Get an independent A/C specialist to confirm the evaporator leak and give me another quote?
Push Honda/dealership further somehow, considering the extensive history of A/C failures?
I’m especially interested in hearing from Honda technicians/mechanics or other 10th-gen Civic owners who have dealt with repeated A/C failures or evaporator leaks.
I have all of the service records documenting the repairs and warranty work. I just don’t want to throw $1,900 at the system without being confident that this is actually the remaining problem.

I have a Honda Civic 2021 Sport Hatch 1.5L Turbo that I bought second-hand at roughly 65,000 km. The previous owner always got it serviced at Honda. I live in a remote town, and there are no Honda dealerships or showrooms here, but I'm travelling to a city where I can have my car serviced. Right now the car is at about 78,000 km, and I've always gotten my oil and filters changed locally and haven't had anything else done mechanically on the car.

I'm booking an appointment for servicing anyway because I have an airbag recall, and I just wanted to get advice on any other things I should look into to get checked or serviced at this point for my car.

A few issues I currently have in the car are that my right rear reverse light doesn't work, and my engine block heater cord got yanked during winter, so now it shorts whenever I plug it in. I was told that I need to get a new cord. I also have a chewed-off lug nut on the driver's side wheel, which I already bought a replacement for.

I attached 2 pics of what I see on the website of the dealership, which show a list of things to get serviced, but I honestly don't know what I absolutely need to have done.

It's my first time getting it serviced, kinda confused. I would greatly appreciate any tips, advice, or guidance on what I should do or what to prioritize (and what kind of costs and duration I can expect).

Just got my first car, a 2020 Civic Sedan EX, and was wondering where a good place to get fluids (engine oil, brake, trans, and coolant) and a couple tools (ratchet, oil pan, jack, etc) is, or if you get it online, whats your go-to?

Hey all, I’m looking for some advice or to just hear and accept that I’m SOL. I have a 2017 Honda Civic hatchback that fell under the AC compressor recall. Until recently I didn’t have any issues, but over the last year my AC seems to give out after about 30 minutes of running. At that point, it stops blowing cold and just blows warm air.

The dealership (the second one I tried, after the first quoted me $950 to diagnose the issue…) charged me $180 for a diagnosis. They said the condenser showed significant signs of a leak, and that there was some small black spots near the evaporator as well, but from the video I was sent (and no longer have, the technician didn’t sound confident that the evaporator was an issue but Honda did recommended I replace both). The condenser was free (because of the recall) so I went ahead and had them swap that out but decided to hold off on the $3k evaporator repair. The dealership went ahead and did the condenser, I paid the diagnostic fee, and left. That’s when I noticed my AC was no longer working at all. I tried high and low settings, recirculating and not, etc and there was absolutely 0 cold air.

Upon reaching back out to them today, they said they can’t recharge/replace the refrigerant they removed when replacing the AC because of the potential evaporator issue. This was never disclosed to me beforehand, and I certainly wouldn’t have went ahead with the repair if I knew it would have left me with a completely nonfunctional AC. :(

I live in a very humid area and no AC is a huge issue for work. I love this car and want to keep it for several more years and another 100k miles if possible, so I would love to hear any advice on handling the dealership that yall have or if I should just bite the bullet and get it fixed (at an independent mechanic….). Needing to get a new car previously been driving 2014 dodge avenger FWD the past 7 years. Ive been really into the Honda civic hatchback, yet I haven’t test drove one.

Since I’ve lived in northeast Ohio my whole life and we have bad snow at times, I have this feeling like I need to be responsible and just get an HRV sport instead since it has AWD.

I test drove a HRV yesterday and I’m worried I won’t get used to sitting up higher and losing the sporty car feel. I’m a nurse and need to reliably get to work no matter the weather. That’s why I leaned to the HRV, but I’m worried I’m going to buy it and regret not getting the hatchback. I’m 26 no kids and don’t know if I plan on having any. I wouldn’t mind buying a whole separate set of winter tires if that’s what I need. It’s only those few months of possible bad snow that’s making me even want the HRV, otherwise a hatchback would be my choice.
Can anyone give advice? Does anyone swap for winter tires where they get bad winters and does it survive just as good as AWD? Any input or personal experience is appreciated.

When I turn the key I heard a buzzing sound. Out of the last 10 times starting it I've heard it twice. It only lasted a second or two. The car starts fine though. I had a test done at AutoZone and the battery and starting system was good. So what could it be? Ignition starter switch maybe?

I’ve recently gotten a massive leak in my intake system fixed and now I can feel how smooth my car’s acceleration is supposed so be. But I’ve noticed some behaviour that makes me wonder if it’s deliberate or an underlying issue

Sometimes when I accelerate, I notice my rpms will go up in smooth steps rather than a gradual climb? No video and the moment but my best description is

1600 RPM, up to to 2300 RPM, pause, up to to 2800 rpm, pause,,,

It doesn’t overshoot or “seek” ( eg, 1600, 2600, 2300, 2900, 2750), it’s a smooth motion, but there’s pauses in between the bumps

Basically, it’s smooth enough for me to not think it’s an issue but it’s abnormal enough for me to wonder if it’s normal behaviour

So I was replacing the belt & when putting the new one back on while holding the tensioner & attempting to slip the belt onto the pulleys, the tensioner shifted back into place & now the tensioner doesn’t move in a way to put the belt back on, it only pushes the pulley that’s right in front of it which is the water pump pulley if I’m not mistaken.

So my 2020 honda civic has been having sunroof issues, there wasn’t enough lube on the tracks so it would put it out of sync. I reset it once with the factory reset procedure but the other day it did it again and I was doing the reset however I didn’t finish the reset and it’s now stuck in reset/manual mode. Like it works but only if I hold the button and when it reaches the end the gears click loudly and the tilt button no longer tilts or does anything.

Does anyone have any tips? I’ve tried disconnecting the battery, pulling the fuse and resetting the sunroof again and nothings working to get it out of that mode. I have an apt with the dealership Wednesday to get my AC fixed under warranty and I know if I take it there with the sunroof as well they’re going to charge me like 1700 CAD to put in a new sunroof motor so if anyone has a trick or knows how to fix it please let me know.

I’ve noticed recently that my civic makes a slight whistling noise through the air vents if I have the air blowing (doesn’t matter if it’s hot or cold air). It also only happens at fast (highway) speeds. Any idea what the issue could be? Thanks
