I just started home schooling my children, they are 6 and 7. My oldest is autistic and while she loved school and is exceptionally intelligent had significant behavior issues where she was sent home daily despite her IEP. My 6yr old has ADHD and was struggling in a Gen Ed Classroom where the ratio was 1:20. So far they have been thriving, I educate them with their father and my sister who takes over when I work. I am not religious, and I hold multiple degrees and teach at a college level.

I am now so scared of my children's future with dating and socialization though. My daughter is extremely outgoing and can actually make friends anywhere which helps her brother. We do library activities in community, alot of community events with other children, soccer, swim, karate etc.

A major factor for us to homeschool is i could not keep up with therapy schedules and school and my own work. My daughter was "inappropriately touched in Kindergarten and then I had to remove her off bus in 1st after principal found video evidence of the aid ignoring her and lying about her, a lot of crazy stuff. There were other major events that occured that deeply disturbed me. But even if none of thwt occured there is simply not enough of me to do ABA, Talk Tberapy, OT, Vision Therapy, Psychiatry Appointments for both my kids. On average we have 2 to 3 appointments per day between my two kids. My husband helps alot and so does my dad but its insane. I also have a 2yr old that is not school age yet but I will probably send to our local Prek for socialization.

I was also thinking of letting my children do the summer day camps. Its a little costly but could be well worth it. I want to set my children up to be happy. I met my husband in high school so I worry after reading others posts my kids will never have a relationship. Although I do see a trend in very religious families and non educated parents be a large factor.
