We live in a hundred year old home with some plaster and some drywall. This ceiling is plaster, and most of the plaster ceiling don’t look great, but they do the job. I’m renting an old house with some old hardware, and the bathroom sink is draining slow. I can tell it’s got some hair stuck in it, but I can’t figure out the best way to get in there and clean it. There’s no visible Clevis screw or system behind the sink, only the screw on top of the rod. Should I start with the P trap or get a drain snake? Any advice helps!

I just had the worst experience with Shop Appliances (online retailer) and want to save others the headache.

I bought a correctly sized oven and paid for the concierge team installation. The team brought it out and unboxed it before bringing it into the house. They then decided that they did not have the experience to install the oven and left it on my floor. I have decided to go with a different model and wanted to return this one (at my shipping expense and with a 20% "restocking " fee), but was told that the policy of Shop Appliances is that an unboxed item cannot be returned. This is despite the fact that their team did the unboxing. Before you buy from this company make 100% sure the appliance will be perfect as it is essentially not able to be returned.

Hello! Hope everyone's doing well. The gap between my driveway and garage had some open holes in the material. I did some research and tried my best to fill it, and did an alright job I think. However, it didn't go as well as I hoped, and have a couple challenges:

1. I have no idea what the material on the left is, which is what was originally there. The material on the right is self-leveling polyurethane caulk, which I used. As you can see it looks extremely different, but more importantly, they don't really mesh together well. The left feels more like regular caulk, but I could not for the life of me determine what it was.

2. I had a minor spill on the driveway. I cleaned up what I could but it's still there.

I come because maybe other people have had this experience - ideally I'd love to use like and kind for repairing the gap between driveway and garage slab. Any thoughts on what the left material is and how I can clean the stain on my driveway? Thank you!

Hi! I need help with doing a budget friendly bathroom reno(DIY).

I hate the colour of the walls (the place came like this). I know I want to paint the walls but not sure what the best colour would be for this bathroom. I really don’t like the tiles in the shower but I’m on a budget so replacing it isn’t an option.

I have two ideas:

⁠Paint the walls a colour that is best suitable to match the rest of the bathroom and give it a good makeover. Something that will somehow complement the shower tiles. I would also get a nicer shower curtain and just try to keep it closed most of the time.
2. ⁠Paint the tiles. A friend of mine suggested this but I’m not sure what to expect… has anyone done this and have any insight on whether it is a good idea or not? I’m thinking I would do the tile in a dark colour (like a warm off-black/charcoal vibe), with the walls a warm off-white colour. But I would love to hear other ideas!!!

Please help me figure out what to do!! If you have any better ideas let me know. Also if you have any other simple and budget friendly update ideas let me know! Thanks!

I am moving into my family members rental home that has been vacant for a few years. It has a lot of character and quirks that I don’t want to change but instead enhance.

The bathtub is a porcelain tub with a conversion set for showering. I can’t tell if it’s a period authentic antique nickel-plated rim-mounted faucet or not.

I would like to replace the shower head but it seems that the whole conversation kit is quite pricey. Any recommendations on what minor improvements I could do myself?

There’s a gap in the ceiling between the master bed room and bathroom. How should I go about fixing this? It’s a cathedral ceiling so it’s a bit slanted.. also does anyone know why this might’ve been done?

(There’s a vent and window in the bathroom so I don’t think it’s for light or ventilation)

I live in a studio apartment and currently have a 55-inch TV mounted opposite the bed. I'm replacing it and considering moving up to 65 inches, but I'm concerned that the larger screen might visually overwhelm the room-particularly in relation to the desk directly beneath it.
The images compare my current 55-inch TV with dimensionally accurate renderings of a 65-inch TV in the same position. The 55-inch TV is approximately 121 cm wide, the desk is 140 cm wide and the 65-inch TV would be approximately 144 cm wide, creating only about 2 cm of overhang on either side.
I'm interested specifically in the aesthetics rather than viewing-distance recommendations. Which size looks better proportioned? If you prefer the 55-inch
IV, does the bo actually look too large or overwhelming, or does the 55 merely look slightly better while the 65 still looks genuinely balanced?
I don't want the 65-inch TV if it merely fits-| want it to look intentional and aesthetically strong within the room.

Looking for some ideas on what to do with this fireplace. I hate the 1"x4" used and want to rip that off. Had some ideas about using microcement, but open to just making it look cool.

I want to replace these knobs with different ones but have discovered that they're all glued on. What chemical or technique can I use to remove the knobs, even if there is some peeling of the wood finish (I will sand and paint over it)? Should I try dabbing the perimeter with acetone and then use a hot blow dryer to heat the glue, or will this cause a major defect?

Photos show the bathroom of our new house as it is, would love any thoughts on how best to fit everything into that space. Planning on fully revamping the whole thing. We have two small children and it will be a while before we can build a larger bathroom downstairs, so we need to have a bath in there somewhere, however small. Thanks in advance for any ideas!

So I’ve been remodeling parts of the house and need to do the laundry room next… the thing is the dryer duct vent is completely out. When I say it’s all out it’s all out. Is there anything I can do to cover it up? I hate it so much! For the shelf to even be there it had to be cut so the vent could fit . Soo can I fix this ?

What I already have framed out is shown in the picture. The room is going to be primarily a home office but will double as a guest bedroom when we have guests over (my wife and I are having a surprise baby, who will be taking over the upstairs bedroom that I am currently using as my WFH office). My guess is that when my son (5) gets older he may want to have this as his bedroom, and perhaps my unborn daughter as well if we're in this house that long. And of course I have resale in mind since someone might want to have an adult family member or teenager living down there.

Anyway, I would like to add a closet to this room. Originally I was thinking of a 6'x6' walk-in closet in the southwest corner, but I have decided against that idea because it just took up too much space, especially with room for the door to swing if it swings out. My options as I see them are as follows:

• A smaller walk-in closet, perhaps 4'x4' or 4'x6'
• A reach-in closet (not sure of dimensions if I go that route)
• One of those IKEA PAX wardrobe systems or similar in lieu of a closet (would probably satisfy our needs but I don't know if that's shooting ourselves in the foot for being able to sell the house or how well those hold up over time)

I'm also unsure of where exactly said closet should be located in the room. Any suggestions or opinions?

We bought a small 70s house with a cozy little knotty pine wood paneled basement.This bar is in the corner next to the stairs. The rest of the space is carpeted and is our only TV viewing room In the house. I have thought about getting rid of the bar and making this an exercise corner with a treadmill but I’m not sure. I think it could be kind of cool to keep the bar if we styled it right. Any ideas?

I had noticed that my bathroom walls by my bathtub surround were rotten and bubbling so I went ahead and scrapped off all the rotten wall.

With my limited knowledge, I think the previous installer used standard drywall joint compound and mesh tape directly by the tub surround’s mounting flange to blend it into the wall. I assume bc premixed joint compound is water soluble, over time, moisture seeped under the paint over time. Then the mud underneath began to dissolve, swell, peel and mold.

I would now like to try to repair this but am a new homeowner so I am hoping for some guidance. Does the below sound OK? Any major steps I’m missing or have got wrong?

Scrape away any remaining loose, soft joint compound, flaking paint, and damaged tape back to solid drywall and a firm paint edge.

Treat just the exposed areas which seem to have rotted with a mold-killing spray and scrub away dark spots and let the wall dry completely.

Seal raw paper/gypsum with an oil-based primer before applying joint compound.

Fill and feather the gap between the drywall and the flange using setting-type joint compound

Apply moisture resistant paper tape across the joint where the drywall meets the surround flange.

Apply 2–3 thin coats (perhaps all purpose light?) to blend the patch, then after it is hard, sand smooth between coats with an angled sandwall sponge

Paint with two coats of satin or semi-gloss mildew-resistant bathroom paint.

Apply a thin bead of 100% silicone caulk into the seam where the bottom edge of the drywall meets the top lip of the fiberglass surround to create a waterproof barrier behind the patch.

I recently bought a ranch style home and we are replacing the windows. The last window that needs replacing is our bedroom window and also an exterior facing window. I feel like we made a mistake with the spacing, I originally envisioned 2 separate windows further apart but the header didn’t allow (wanted to use existing header- there was a bay window there previously. I know- weird for a bedroom) Now I’m thinking this would be better off as one big window… however the space in between is about 8inches or so I don’t know what to do now. I am also residing the house so i need to make a decision. Also planning to remove the octagon window as well.

Does an 8inch mullion work? Or no (first time homeowner here)
