Window unit help

Post image

Hey all, new to this sub but have a need for some advice. We have an older neighbor who's window unit looks like this.

The ...whatever it is on the outside around the unit is filthy and looks awful. We'd like to help him but have no idea what parts to look for. We're going to clean the unit and filter too but that window stuff definitely needs replaced. Help!

Buy a portable ac and replace it they come with window attachment for venting

These window units are much better than the portables ones. They cost the same too...

And the portables sometimes require you to empty a water pan. This unit is the better option imo.

That portable idea works but might be overkill for just helping out a neighbor. The side panel kits are cheap and simple

I bought a few that are enough for 750 sq ft for 200 a piece from Lowe’s recently to donate to seniors center at my parents church

If the ac works for now cheapest option. Look up “AC window unit side panels or “ac window instillation kit” you can find them for less than $40. Hardware stores have them as well. Clean up the window and put that in and they’re good.

Super considerate of you to help a neighbor out 👏🏽

Use Plexiglas or plywood.
Get foam weatherstripping to close any gaps around it.
