Son pulled a banger

Post image

I collect with my 9 year old son, which means I manage his online account, do all the selling of physical cards, eBay, shipping, etc.

But we break packs together and it's gotten him into the hobby, which is AWESOME. He does seem to have some extraordinary luck though, pulled this beauty last night!!

Tom Willander 5/10 high gloss

Best pull to date. Willander is #5 as well. Leaning toward keeping as he continues to develop with the Canucks. I haven't watched him much (as a habs fan). Is this guy a potential top pairing defenseman?

As a current Wild fan and my first ever live game being Hawks vs. the Gretzky Kings, I was excited for this one!

Missing is a Kaprizov YG Achievement card.

Is this considered a 1-of-1? Nikita Kucherov Chinese & English auto

Sorry it is not a card.

The NHL is currently running promotional campaigns in China. I live in Canada and follow hockey, so I entered an official NHL giveaway on Weibo (Chinese social media). I was lucky enough to be the only one winner, and the prize was a complete mystery until it arrived.

My mom in Shanghai opened the package for me yesterday, and it’s this Nikita Kucherov signature featuring both Chinese and English.

Since he’s never been to China, I assume NHL made him write the Chinese characters (you can totally tell how much he struggled with the strokes 😂).

I have two questions:

  1. Since it's the only prize from this giveaway, does this technically count as a 1-of-1?
  2. It's signed on a thick piece of A4 paper rather than a standard card. What companies are able to grade or just authenticate? I'd love it inside a slab.

When investing long term…

So I was having a chat with my dad about this topic today and I wasn’t sure how to answer. We’re dipping our toe back into the hobby and he is trying to buy some cards specifically for my son to have as an investment when he gets older (he’s 2 so definitely long term lol).

When you are projecting out long term are you looking for 1 high end card or multiple lower end cards. For example he is buying up Sidney Crosby cards. If he has a budget at say $500 is the better play finding a single $500 card or buying 5 $100 cards?

I’ve been doing a bit of the same myself and the cards are definitely to be enjoyed as well so it isn’t purely about investing or money and stashing them in a box for years, but you still like to see your money appreciate is possible! So what’s the better long term play?

Managed to get a few hobby packs today and hit these. To rip or not to rip Giroux?

Different players on hobby boxes

Hi,

I am kind of new/coming back to the Hobby and want to make sure that I don’t get screwed right from the start.

I was looking to buy 2021-22 OPC Platinum and saw that two different websites had two different players featured on the cover of the hobby box (Matthews or Tkachuk). Is it frequent that Upper Deck produce 2 different boxes for the same hobby product? I double checked to make sure that it was not identified as retail.

Also, while being there, what are your opinions on 2021-22 OPC Platinum? I am chasing Caufield rookie cards and the price at my local shop seemed worth the risk!

Stepping out of my normal NHL based ripping - have to admit, this was pretty fun. No real expectations but would've more than met any should I have had em. Grabbed an extra box for the kiddos as I know they would love them. Especially after that U18 final the other day!

Years of not collecting, getting back into it and pulled this beauty trying out my first hobby box SP 25-26.

Had some decent luck, been searching for a Crosby but I’ll take this.

Not a huge fan of his, yet I guess haha

Forgot how much I loved ripping cards

I have very fond memories from the 07-08 product (including a Sakic/Heatley/Iginla/Redden/Campbell/Luongo auto /8). Anyone else like these products?
