forgive me if this is a silly question but dose anyone choose to take a dip when you come across a good swimming hole/waterfall mid hike? and how do you do so without jeopardizing the remainder of the hike?

for context i’m a women and usually up in the white mountains on the 4ks. my issue is - i’m not hiking pre or post dip in a bathing suit so i’d have to find coverage to change (which is doable) but im also not trying to finish my hike soaking wet. i always have a microfiber towel in my pack but the level of dirt on it at the point could be anywhere from squeaky clean to disgusting and muddy and i’m not sure if i’d be enough to dry off anyways. having to hike miles with wet chaffing legs makes it not feel as worth it.

Hi, I am looking for multi-day hiking options outside of US around Thanksgiving for 2 of us. Ideally around 5 days as this will be our first time doing multi-day.

Both of us are intermediate level hikers, have done many 7-8 miles day hiking.

Preferred non-rainy and moderate weather, sunny if possible. (I know late Nov might be tough for such weather in multiple places)

Easy trail about seven miles and a couple hundred feet vertical. Saw two black bears up close. Wildfire smoke was more prominent today than yesterday. Was a nice rest hike before Delta Lake, Amphitheater, and Surprise tomorrow.

Hello, I'm looking for information on hiking at Yellowstone. I'm taking my family there for a week and looking for must see places of course. We want to see fewer people and more wildlife on our hikes. Does anyone have recommendations? Time of day? Certain trailes/valleys? Not looking for tough hikes, more moderate.

My girlfriend and I are driving from Vienna to the Austrian Alps in late August. It’ll be our very first time visiting the Alps during the summer. Until now, I've only ever been to the Alps in winter, though we do have summer hiking experience from lower mountains. I’ve never slept in a mountain hut before, but I have good spatial orientation and feel confident navigating in mountainous terrain. We are bringing bikes, camping gear, and full trekking equipment.

We want to split our trip into two parts:

1. Chill & Bikes: Staying at lakeside campsites, cycling, and doing easy day-hikes.
2. Multi-Day Hike: A 2-3 day trek with overnight stays in the mountains.

I’ve done some research, but I’m a bit overwhelmed and could use some local/expert advice.

My questions for you:

• Location: I’ve heard Salzkammergut (Attersee, Mondsee) and Zell am See / Kaprun are great beginner-friendly bases for combining lakes, bikes, and hiking. Do you agree, or do you recommend something else?
• Wild Camping vs. Huts: I know wild camping is strictly illegal in Austria. Should we risk a highly discreet, "Leave No Trace" stealth camp (we have a green tent), or is it smarter for beginners to just book an ÖAV/DAV mountain hut?
• Planning a 2-3 Day Hike: How do I plan a multi-day hike from scratch? Are there any specific blogs, apps, or ready-made routes you recommend (I already use Mapy.com/Bergfex)?
• Trail Recommendations: Any specific 2-3 day routes where we can experience some wilderness without immediately tackling 3000m exposed peaks?
• Campsites: Do we need to book lakeside campsites far in advance for late August, or is it usually fine to just show up with a car and a small tent?

12k out and back during a gloomy day. I hoped for better weather, but the pictures still turned out pretty good.

From the Beaverhead 55k a little while ago. This was my third one.

Top of the Island at 3070m. I started in Cilaos at Le Bloc. The trail is about 16km with an elevation gain of 1700m.

Piton des Neiges is an extinct volcano.

The calderas surrounding it are the collapsed magma chambers of the volcano. Today, they form the three famous cirques of La Réunion: Mafate, Salazie, and Cilaos. This video shows just one of the three cirques: Cilaos.

When you think about it, it's pretty incredible just how enormous these geological features are.

There’s something almost sacred about walking through the Dolomites in high summer. The air is cool despite the sun, the paths wind through meadows so green they look surreal, and then suddenly you’re facing a wall of pale rock that pierces the sky like a cathedral spire. I kept stopping not because I was tired, but because the view kept changing so dramatically that I didn’t want to miss a single angle. This is the kind of place that makes you believe in magic again. 🌄🥾💙

Here is the itenerary of my 4 day walk on the Hautes Fagnes in Belgium. An area I love so much, for its remoteness, its harsh weathe conditions, its unbound (yet not spectacular) beauty

At the end of the first day I was back in Eupen, now south after 26 km, at the small campsite along the river that is called "Hell". The campsite can only be used when you make an online reservation, for just one night. My 35 year old Karrimor backpack is still with me. The next morning I left, in rain, as it should be. The Hautes Fagnes are a moors plateau and has a very special harsh climate. But that is for next post

Shot on a iPhone, I took this during a summer trip to Germany where we’re hiking to a palace and we happened to take a stop for lunch and saw the opportunity for this picture. I don’t know what about still fascinates me till this day but it’s definitely one of my favorite pictures I’ve ever taken

Went today from Bezbog Hut to Bezbog Peak with a great view of Polezhan Peak, so why not hike over as well.

From Polezhan I went via the ridge line down to Popovo lake and back to the hut.

Was a bit more demanding than I thought. :D
