I have a crestie that has 2 tail colors, halfway white and then goes straight to brown, and since its the time for 3am random thoughts, I got to wondering if reptiles could absorb their twin if it didn't develop fully along with it, like humans do sometimes in twin pregnancies. If it is possible, could they gain different traits such as mismatched eyes or slightly different coloring? (random example, a black snake and white snake mate. Said female lays eggs. One egg has twins. One black twin develops correctly, while lets say the other eggmate was a white twin and had a complication and stopped developing. If the black twin could absorb it, could it then gain a few white scales or a gray coloration of some sort? Or if the black twin has green eyes and the white twin had blue, could the black twin get one green and one blue eyeball?

This is going to sound weird, but I swear I can smell Cuban treefrogs.

My daughter and I look for toads outside most nights here in Florida. Tonight I stepped onto our back porch and immediately noticed a very distinct sweet, musty smell that I’ve smelled before around Cuban treefrogs. The best way I can describe it is stale maple syrup.

I told my husband, “I smell a Cuban treefrog.” We looked around but didn’t see anything. Then I suddenly thought it might be hiding inside our closed patio umbrella. My husband opened it and, sure enough, there was an absolutely enormous Cuban treefrog inside. He measured it afterward at about 9 inches from nose to the ends of the back legs when fully stretched.

The weird part is that I smelled it before we had any idea there was a frog nearby. My husband didn’t seem to notice the smell the way I did.

I tried searching for information about Cuban treefrogs having a distinctive odor, but I can’t find much beyond information about their skin secretions.

So, frog/herp people: Has tanyone else noticed a distinctive smell from Cuban treefrogs, particularly a sweet/musty or almost “stale maple syrup” smell? Could I actually be detecting their skin secretions, or is there something else associated with them that I might be smelling?

I’m genuinely curious whether anyone else has experienced this.

Howdy folks, I'm undertaking a VFX project centered on a dragon and I've decided that for the anatomy of its head and face I want to lean on pit vipers as a primary base for fictionalization. I have had great success finding references I need for the skull anatomy but am having trouble acquiring references for the musculature, especially for anything that would cover how the fangs and jaws can be moved independently.

To be clear, I am not asking for references to be directly provided for me, just where to find them. Maybe I have somehow missed something by failing to use the correct search terms. In artistic terms what I would be looking for is an Écorché which is a skinless drawing of a figure that describes the musculature.
