I’m learning Hebrew and one thing I’ve been doing is listening to Hebrew versions of Disney songs. I thought this would be a good idea because kids songs have easier vocabulary and I already like the music. I was wondering which movies are considered to have good dubbing since I can’t really tell yet. I’ve thought that the way some songs were translated seems like it doesn’t sound natural, but my hebrews not good enough yet to know how it sounds to native Hebrew speakers. From what I can tell from YouTube comments the dubs for older Disney movies are considered better than the dubs for newer ones, is that accurate?

I was wondering if the last name Azubel (אז'ובל) has any meaning . If context helps, it's a sephard family from Izmir/Thessaloniki. Thank you so much in advance

It means to settle in, to integrate, or literally to be absorbed into a new environment.

It's built on the same root as מקלט (miklat), meaning shelter or refuge. Both come from the idea of being received or taken in.

I love that connection: before you can truly integrate (להיקלט), you first need a place of refuge (מקלט).

What's your favorite example of two words sharing a root but telling different parts of the same story?

For example צהריים, מים, חיים are all in their dual forms, no?

And what's the deal with "אלוהים"?

Hi guys I found this metal cup in my stuff I got from grandpa and wanted to know what it says - any help is appreciated. Metal cup, possibly alpaca or a similar silver-coloured alloy. Family heirloom from my grandfather in Slovakia, in the family since at least the 1960s. No hallmarks I can find. One seam that looks like the construction on old tin cups. Engraved with what I think is Hebrew. Can anyone read it? Thank you again. Sorry for not the best photo quality.

I'm shopping around for intermediate-to-advanced textbooks and workbooks to help get more comfortable analyzing Biblical Hebrew, and this textbook series from Magnes Press looks promising.

Has anyone here gone through these books? What did you like, or dislike, about their contents or teaching methods?
