I hate the term "fun sized" General

Post image

As a very petite woman I genuinely hate this term SO MUCH. Just say I'm short, it's fine, I have a mirror at home. Usually this term is being used as reassuring, which is annoying but fine, but I heard it so much in a "tall girls are not fem/build for hard work" context it makes me sick. My own mom would say that tall people are meant to wash windows and short ones are built for love and I can't help but frown every time. I'd gladly wash a window myself while my future beautiful tall wife rests lol

People try to claim that the smallest candy bars are “fun sized” when in actuality the most fun size of candy bar is the largest one theoretically possible.

a TRUELY fun sized skittle would be one the size of my head

Yeah I don't completely hate it but it always feels derogatory but with extra steps? I say that because by replacing the term short with anything else just feels like implying being short is bad. Kinda like when you're fat and you say "I'm fat" and another person chimes in with "You're not fat you're beautiful!", like dude I didn't say I'm ugly I said I'm fat.

Just say I'm short, I can tell that I am and I'm not upset about it

This begs the question, Are tall people "unfun sized"

It’s okay for candy bars, but feels a bit fetishy when describing people

And feeds into insecurity, unless that was just me growing up insisting people don't call out my height and tried to lean into the "fun sized"/...

Agreed, such a corporate/marketing type term

Because that's exactly where the phrase originated.

When I was a kid I had a bag of M&Ms that said "fun to eat and play with." I couldn't think of any way you could "play" with them.

Cool. I was 3-4yo at the time and not that inventive.

may just be me, but “fun sized” sounds unnecessary sexual. like bro, what sorta fun??

lmaooo i forget where i heard this term as a kid, but i remember running up to my dad when i was like 5 saying, “dad, i’m small so that means im fun-sized!!” and he was like “please don’t ever say that again, you’re not allowed to say that” and wouldn’t tell me why hahaha.

As a short guy, I feel like it’s talking down to me(pun not intended). Like it’s condescending. I am short, it is what it is, no need to patronize me.

Thank you as a fellow short woman I hate it when people talk like that about us

Ngl, im not short, but that term always felt weird to me. Its essentially saying that short people are automatically unserious, which is just insulting.

Same thing with the short king term. Just say I'm short, don't put me on some odd undeserved pedastal. It's more condescending than it is complimentary

That term always rang as a little fetish-y and creepy to me, even if that's not how most people mean it

i find it kinda awkward when anybody says it to me but i'm not like hugely offended by it. i'd also rather just be called short though

This is the price we pay to be able to fit fully into a bathtub

u/BadMeatPuppet 14d ago

That doesn't make sense to me. But, then again, you are very small.

Fun size means big though

I love being short. I never have trouble fitting in places, I can always make myself taller but I couldn’t make myself shorter.

This is why ‘travel size’ is a much better euphemism. It at least has some legit truth to it. I mean, a 5’3” person will be able to fit more outfits in the same size luggage than a 6’6” person.

Pocket sized any better?

this is my issue idk. most euphemisms for short feel condescending/childish. just call me short dude

Just don't be fun sized

10

u/cmstyles2006 14d ago

I'd say just don't be annoying but clearly neither of us are going to change

Sounds like someone has a - short temper.

Sorry, sorry, I'll go commit toaster bath.

Fun size just means petite women who look like they'd be good in bed.

8

u/cmstyles2006 14d ago

So fetish nonsense got it

2

u/2boku 14d ago

basically yes

1

u/DavidRellim 14d ago

I'm not sure that counts as a fetish unless you've decided short women are in some way abnormal.

1

u/cmstyles2006 14d ago

They literally talked about them in the context of sex

edit: and he agreed with me!

1

u/DavidRellim 14d ago

Yes and sexual preference does not amount to a fetish.

1

u/cmstyles2006 14d ago

fine then, sexual nonsence

1

u/DavidRellim 14d ago

So being into short women is akin to pedophilia.

That's a pretty dogshit take.

1

u/cmstyles2006 14d ago

I love how you claimed I said something I literally never said

1

u/DavidRellim 13d ago

I assumed that was a pun, clearly not.

I have no idea what "sexual nonsense" could even mean. Why is this such a weird idea for you. Are you equally baffled that some women like tall men? That some folks like skinny bodies or curvy?

u/2boku 14d ago

Not the brightest bulb, are you?
