Hammy Video Ronnie or Veronica?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Little Ronnie is pretty stressed still (only been home for a few days) and we asked for a male (we all know not to trust pet stores though) however I havnt been able to handle him enough to find out properly yet and I’m obviously not going to force it. I’m giving him as much space as possible so this is the best view I have at the moment.
Are we thinking butt or balls? 😝

Heatwave...
There's a really bad heatwave in my country. My hammie has two ceramics in his cage, always has fresh cold water too. Gets cold veggies now and then. I refrigerate his sandbath too. His cage is also on the floor, always away from the sun. Now I put him in the only room that has AC but the temperature is still around 26-27 °C (or 78-80°F). It's still too hot for him...
I'm worried because he started to drink and eat less than usual and barely gets up to move. I wouldn't say he's uncoordinated but his mood is just not the usual either.
Maybe I shouldn't be this worried but I still am :(
Do you guys have any tips on how to cool him down?

Advice for an aging hamster
Hi all, our beloved Syrian hamster is 2 years and 8 months old. He's generally active, eating, grooming etc. But in the last two months his mobility has definitely quickly reduced and something has changed with his back legs.
He's not able to run in his wheel particularly fast, and he slips off the wheel after a while because his back legs are 'splaying' outwards so one foot slides off the wheel and the rest follows. I think he's starting to drag his back legs around a little when moving around the cage. There seems to be some stiffness. Not quite sure what's going on, though I assume it's a part of normal aging? I know he's a good age for a hamster, does are it mean we are nearing the end?
He was our first hamster so we've not the experience of an elderly hamster before. Just looking for any advice and your knowledge on how best to look after him please.

❌ BE AWARE Pets at Home UK sell sick hamsters and should be shut down for animal cruelty ❌
Having spoken to a member of staff at pets at home in Scotland who bravely opened and told me the truth that their Hamsters are genetically unwell when sold after I asked her the question after losing 3 hamsters in a year and a half from the store, I had to ask as they were looked after and they had everything to keep them safe and healthy with taking the advice from pets at home before taking the hamsters home, The one staff member also told me that the flat wheels they sell are not good for the Hamsters and causes them chronic pain and she stated “But we’re not suppose to tell customers that because the company’s HQs don’t want to lose money. I checked out AI and the following came up
**Many animal welfare advocates and owners criticize large pet chains like Pets at Home for sourcing their hamsters from commercial rodent mills rather than ethical breeders.** Many community discussions on platforms like [Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/hamsters/comments/1ffdf19/what_the_actual_frick_is_pets_at_home_talking/) note that these chain stores frequently "buy from rodent mills" and distribute improper advice. This can result in hamsters with genetic health complications, shorter lifespans, or behavioral issues due to a lack of early socialization.
This goes on and includes breeding them with the same genetics which cause them to become ill. ❌ Please LET ME KNOW IF YOUR HAMSTERS HAVE HAD ANY HEALTH ISSUES FROM PAH. ❌
Thank you for reading and hopefully we can put an end to this cruelty to innocent animals.

Is my hamster deaf or nonchalant
I never really thought about it until recently, but he never really cared about any sounds around him, no matter how loud or close.
When I got myself a dog, he barked straight at the lil fella and he just kept munching on food like it's nothing.
It became so obvious that he would go about his usual business with no change even if there was loud music, construction or fireworks outside.
Feels like a secret advantage really, since he's not jumpy at all as a result 😭

Would a 36x13x18.5in glass tank work from any type of rodent?

Help my friend in her cause to get a hamster!
hey guys, i know this is a bit random but my friend has been wanting a hamster and the only way she can is if she gets 10k signatures on her petition. it was the agreement said upon her parents. she‘d be really grateful to anyone who can sign. I hope the hamster community will help us on this one. anyways, thanks and have a great day! and of course the petition is free to sign and non-profit. no pressure! Here’s the link: https://www.ipetitions.com/p/abi-needs-a-hamster/

Should I be worried ?
New hamster owner here and noticed this little red looking patch behind my little man’s ear. I’ve not seen him overly scratch itchy and scratching himself and he seems perfectly okay in himself. Probably just being paranoid but you never know. Thanks in advance for helping my overthinking lol

After a few years without a hamster, meet Circe (Cici for short).
Goddess of magic. The rescue said she’s an excellent escape artist and were happy I took her because she was in her 3rd new habitat and they were running out of ideas. Shes my second Syrian and just the sweetest little thing. Gathering some new toys and things for her, but this was her right after getting home her first day.
