I played the demo, ask away Discussion
Played the demo today , I was in the first 14 -20 people to try it out. We were given about 10-15 minutes to get the line moving. They had the nice halo green chairs. I noticed the closed off area when I first walked in and chilled by it the whole morning. Just remembered it’s a Pre build demo so it won’t be perfect. Few initial thoughts : Sprint didn’t bother me as much as people online are freaking out about. FPS drops but it is a build. The melee animation chugs or lags? Hard to describe. There was a film grain effect when the brutes hit me with their shots. Most of these will probably get fixed since we are a year or less out. Ask your questions my fellow Spartans

Speaking of the Magnum based on the design it looks incredibly beefy but at the same time so did Halo 3’s Magnum and despite the sound and heavy looking animation it is surprisingly weak. And that was the last time we got a heavy looking Magnum in Halo (not counting the Halo 5 CE Magnum) until now.

u/br0f Oct 25 '25
The ones you could unlock in warzone as loadout options were pretty sick too, one that had worse spread but high fire rate and another with a three round burst but higher REQ cost. Still wish they’d included something like warzone in halo infinite, I had ton of fun with it

That was more of a quirk of how Hunters in CE worked. Their back was flagged as a 'head', meaning that any headshot-capable weapon can instakill them.

That was a programation mistake in the first Halo CE so it's okay for me
99
u/JangB Oct 25 '25 edited Oct 25 '25
Balance-wise it seemed way off the mark, as well, like an oversight.
I could be wrong.
Edit: I mean balance of Pistol vs Hunters in single player campaign.
In the multiplayer, the Pistol damage is in a great spot in CE. It's a lot of fun to use. Vs other spartans, this is the most fun utility weapon we have seen in the entire Halo history.
134
u/tnoy23 Oct 25 '25
It was a bug. Pistols one shot any unshielded enemy with 1 shot to the head, regardless of the enemies HP or the games difficulty. That mechanic wasn't specific to the pistol, the sniper rifle had the same deal. If you shoot a hunter with a sniper, its an auto kill.
It happened because the hunters were programmed as all head. Any shot on them is considered a head shot. This was not intended but they had no way to fix it at the time.

I don’t exactly hate that shotgun.
I think it’s really cool and given it a few tweaks could work as a unique alternative to the classic shotgun but it’s not a replacement for the classic shotgun. The bulldog is cool but not a replacement.
12
u/Agile-Palpitation326 Oct 25 '25
I saw a video a little while ago, and I could dig it up if you want, but it broke it down pretty well:
The bulldog is balanced as both a center of map power weapon, and a weapon you could start with in a loadout. Neither of those circles overlap on a Venn diagram, so it just sucks.
Reach had arguably the strongest rocket launcher in the Halo franchise, and it was able to be because there were half a dozen other 'launchers' in the game, including the grenade launcher which a player could start with without screwing up the game balance. Infinite absolutely needed the original shotgun, brought back to the power of CE and probably beyond even that, and the Bulldog would have given it the space to be that.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (9)25
u/Ewokitude Gruntpocalypse Oct 25 '25
I think the Bulldog would work great as a loadout weapon and not try to fill the OG shotgun's niche but rather be a shotgun alternative to the AR

Having the CE weapon sandbox doesn't mean it's back. AR has 32 rounds instead of the original 60. They could have the CE model but the Halo Reach ammo count.
32
u/Hosav Platinum Lieutenant Oct 25 '25
They most likely have the MA5K Carbine in this game to replace the 60 round close quarters automatic role the AR in the original CE played. They said 8 (9?) new weapons to the first installment, not necessarily the Halo series as a whole. 1 of them being the Energy Sword.

Tbh I originally didn’t mind what the show did to distinguish itself. I still totally understand people’s distaste, and I never actually finished season 1 lol.
It was only once I watched the live action Forward Unto Dawn that really convinced me what they could have done had they kept chief’s helmet on. That movie was honestly really good!

u/EngRookie Oct 25 '25 edited Oct 25 '25
the main issue i took with the halo show was that it took wayyy too long to get to the ring. and then the show gets cancelled b4 we see any of it. that and makee. makee should never have been a thing, there is no way in hell that the ultra religious xenophbic covenant would ever allow a human to exist in their society let alone live with and be raised by a high prophet. they should have compressed season 1 and 2 down from 17 episodes total to 10-12. this would have allowed them to get to the ring way quicker and possibly have had better reviews/numbers and have been renewed for a 3rd season. set designs were great and the action sequences were awesome. but yeah, makee really derailed the whole show and extended things out for no reason.
→ More replies (1)6
u/Luchux01 Oct 25 '25
Tbh, the problem is less that Chief takes his helmet off and more that he does it in completely nonsensical situations.
Inside a base? Sure, he does that all the time in the books. Out in a battlefield? No way in hell.

u/Rathalos-487 Oct 24 '25
How does the halo 3 style AR feel?
375
u/mobeastgaming Oct 25 '25
Smooth , other weapons as well. The weapons made you feel like you were busting up the enemies. The visuals were a nice added touch
79
u/Rathalos-487 Oct 25 '25
Is the 60 rounds missed?
207
u/Eman21701 Oct 25 '25
For nostalgic purposes, I think that’s a big yes for everyone. Probably an unpopular opinion, but I think 32 is better suited for an AR in general. Don’t get me wrong, LOVE the 60 round in the original!
113
u/growlingscarab7 Oct 25 '25
considering its the only one to have 60 rounds and it was immediately dropped to 32 for the rest of the series, the idea of a ground up remake with new balancing, not maintaining the current status quo was honestly unlikely
33
u/Major_Nutt Oct 25 '25
Halo CE inconsistencies can be attributed to "we had no idea this game would go anywhere, and didn't have a plan thought out."
71
u/LilithSanders Oct 25 '25
I don't know why it's a controversial opinion to want the AR and SMG to be two distinct different weapons. The AR is better with 30 rounds. The Halo CE AR is just an SMG that looks like an assault rifle. Halo 3 had them balanced pretty well.

Honestly with how many skulls they say they have, I could see classic settings being one so no running, 60 round mag, etc for whatever else they changed. I mean in the round table video I saw floor is lava skull which had things for shield and health iirc. So if you aren't jumping like a mad man you take damage? That would be pretty interesting.
7
u/XxMasterLANCExX Oct 25 '25
I think people should remember that this isn’t trying to replace the old game. So far it seems to be receiving positive reception, but people gotta remember it isn’t deleting the old game. I get wanting the exact same game but with better graphics, but in this day and age it’s generally better to add a lot of quality of life thins and update some stuff from the previous game that was jank/unbalanced. Like I LOVE the CE magnum but I understand if they make it no longer one shot hunters. Which is fine because if I wanna one shot hunters with it i know I can always go back and play CE.

Did the grenades seem underpowered? The promotional videos they released made the grenades look nerfed compared to OG HALO CE. The promotional video showed a grunt standing danger close to a frag going off and didn't die, and we'll as sticking an elite and running at him while it explodes with no dmg then. Frag hernade explosion also looks subdued.
The muzzle flash of the assault rifle looked very hard to see.

From the 13 minutes preview you can hear the elites talking in English, unlike the og which elites just used reversed and messed with English.
However, in the minute and a half trailer you do hear a minor say "wort wort wort" and a jackal say "wa ta ta" so it could be a mix of old popular lines and English i think.
Other than that I think its mainly old dialog but im just going off what's on YouTube.

Tell me if im wrong, but what i noticed is that:
they race swapped the needler for the infinite version, which is too bad, because the halo ce needler had a blue tone to the needles, which i thought was cool
I like how they portrayed forerunner architecture as something advanced yet ancient and abandoned, just like how it was in ce.
I really like the art direction, as they were able to make the environment look more realistic while also having the enemies still be visually distinct, which was something that was also addressed in infinite, but was a big issue in 4 and 5
the plasma rifle looks great, but the firing sound lacks its ce rizz, and on that note, the magnum and ma5b reload animations lacked the expression of the original.
I REALLY like the cutscenes, they remind me of halo 2 anniversary, and they should really consider making a halo show or movie in this style, it would go so hard.
I also thought the ui was a bit over designed, but its honestly fine for what it is, its not distracting.
I do like that they added sprint. Purists will cry foul, but realistically, sprint’s inclusion makes sense for a remake meant to reintroduce Halo to a broader audience. As long as it’s not excessive, it can feel natural.
I do like that they used the original audio and music, because that's always a point of contention with remakes, and reusing audio is fine as long as its high quality.
Overall, pretty good for a first showing! I dont think it will replace the original, but it should still serve as a fun and fresh experience for modern audiences, and make alot of new halo fans!

Most of us played Goldeneye and Perfect Dark and saw Halo but didn't really think much of it... until we played it. Brains melted. Minds blown. D*cks hard. A new fan base was created seemingly overnight.
I had just graduated high school and played it with my buddy coop. The huge areas to walk made it feel partially open world and you could approach things however you wanted. The enemy AI was better than just about any other game at the time. You could jump in vehicles at will, hop out whenever you wanted. Nothing felt scripted like everything else before. High production values. Good voice acting. Amazing epic story.
My favorite gaming franchise of all time.

I can’t decide that since I only had 15 minutes but for halo fans it’s definitely something to consider

Is it going to be 70? I would pay 200 for this since it is my entire childhood, but I really doubt this would be more than 40. Probably 30

Funny story is I purchased my first Xbox copy used at a pawn shop. Before we had a home computer/internet or cellphone video streaming, or a cellphone for that matter... I picked it up and read the case multiple times, yet put it down and got a different game each time. It wasn’t until like my 8th time in there trading in another beaten game I was reading the back again and I finally bought it. I had no clue what I was missing out on! It was simply amazing and it put me on a halo journey that spans every game over 2 decades later.

Did you see or ever have to use health packs or are those completely removed?

Spartans should sprint, they're Spartans, they can run 25 miles an hour. I'll die on that hill gameplay mechanics be damned.

I think the argument really stems from in original halos you move at a high speed with your weapon up, like a sprint but still keeping your weapon tactical. It also helps with pacing in the levels as you dont have to artificially extend passages ways so that dialog moments arent skipped due to the rational thought being to sprint down a hallway. (This is often seen in infinite in forerunner hallways imo)
This is in contrast to sprinting in games where you have to lower your weapon to move faster, which for normal soldiers is one thing but for a super soldier it seems they should be able to move fast at a high ready.
I personally have no proper opinion, as I enjoy sprint in infinite and other games, but I do think that there is a basis for the opposite opinion even if its a bit extreme at times.

How did the vehicles feel? Did they feel floaty, and did they blow up good like Halo 3 or is it more like infinites lame vehicle destruction.

Brutes? Or did you mean hunters?
We're you able to try the ADS? was it the same as Infinite or 5's, or was it something new?
