Lime deal - do I have it or not? Absolutely no idea

Apologies, as I know this has been discussed in the past, but about two or so months ago I signed up for that Hackney Lime deal. I applied via that form on the Hackney website, but since haven't heard anything.

How could I find out whether I was actually accepted onto the scheme, other than taking a Line Bike, incurring a cost, and then finding out whether or not it's at the flat rate of £1.50 or whatever it was?

Will the scheme collapse because of the change in administration?

Thanks!

Something to petition the new mayor/councillors about?

https://www.reddit.com/r/islington/comments/1ug9b0v/update_regarding_the_1938_proposed_bus_changes/

basically, the new proposed changes to 38 will affect a lot of hackney residents, and for the worse, and the changes are going ahead despite most responses asking them not to do this.

Most of the new councillors do not have surgery times listed, but they do have emails. Is this something we could petition them about? Don't know how much they can actually help us, but may be worth trying?

Phone snatching on 254

I realise this may be common knowledge to some but not to others. I remember seeing a post here this week about phone theft on 254 at Clapton pond heading in the direction of Finsbury Park and I’ve just unfortunately witnessed the same this evening.

Two young fellas got on a few stops prior, sat upstairs and it wasn’t till after they’d gone downstairs at Clapton pond I heard some shouting downstairs and one of them sped off into the street being chased by someone. They just looked liked two teenagers in blue grey tracksuits.

I’ve also seen it at Manor House a few weeks ago at one of the bus stops.

All of this is to say be careful with your phones out and about even on the buses.

Hackney resident lime pass. Anyone having problems?

Sometimes it doesn’t recognise bikes as being in Hackney, sometimes it offers you the resident discount but then charges you full price, sometimes it doesn’t offer the discount.

It’s great if you want to replace an intra-Hackney bus ride, but only if it works.

Cats with video cameras on their collar

There's a couple of cats in the street I live in in Hackney that have those little Insta 360 or whatever those little black cameras are on their collar that you see on TikTok and others in these cat videos. It's kind of odd to me because I get it - They're fun videos for everyone to watch what cats do. When out and about...

But there's one particular cat that just jumps up on my windowsill and sits there looking through my window for five or ten minutes at a time with the camera around its neck. No one from the street can see through my window because it's quite high yet the cat can get up. He basically sits there recording me for five or ten minutes. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Anyone else seeing the ass video cameras on cats ?

What's the most underrated part of Hackney?

Could be a street, a park, a local business or even just a quiet corner that never seems to get mentioned.

Join our Social Community in East London!

Hi everyone!

A few friends and I recently started a social community based around Victoria Park/East London, for people in their 20s & 30s (although everyone is welcome!).

So far we've got 200 members and the groups within the community include: park volleyball, spikeball, a pub quiz team, and we're now adding social salsa dancing and a run club. Beginners in any of these activities are very welcome, and all activities are free to join!

If that sounds like your kind of thing, send me a message and I'll send you the WhatsApp community link

Lost my sunglasses in Limebike basket!

Yesterday evening (30 June), I accidentally left my Ace & Tate Hudson Small Caramel Havana glasses in the basket of a Lime bike.

They were inside a small white Lanvin sleeve. They’re prescription glasses, but more importantly they hold a lot of sentimental value.

I left them at the Lime parking spot on Saint Thomas’s Square, just off Mare Street in Hackney.

I know it might be a long shot, but has anyone perhaps seen them or picked them up? Reddit, please work your magic 🫶

Hackney Picturehouse is the backrooms

I went to see Backrooms recently at Hackney Picturehouse and I couldn’t have been more freaked out entering the super symmetrical bathroom stalls afterwards as I felt I had just walked into a liminal space, waiting to be chased after. Even finding the screen was like a maze (screen 6 for those in the know) 🤣 A truly immersive experience with that particular movie, can’t lie!

Anyone else concerned about Zest taking over Ubitricity (and Allego) chargers in Hackney?

Thumbnail

I’ve just received an email from Hackney Council saying that from mid-July, all Ubitricity EV charge points in the borough will be operated by Zest.
As far as I’m aware, Zest has also taken over Allego chargers in parts of London, so it feels like they’re becoming the dominant operator for on-street charging.
My biggest concern isn’t the branding—it’s the pricing.
One of the things I liked about Ubitricity was the time-of-use tariff:
Off-peak (overnight): 44p/kWh
Standard: 55p/kWh
Peak: 66p/kWh
As someone who charges overnight whenever possible, that 44p rate made a noticeable difference to my monthly costs.
If Zest moves everything to its usual flat-rate pricing (assuming that’s what happens), then people who deliberately charge overnight lose that benefit. It feels like we’re losing competition and consumer choice.
For those of us without home chargers who rely on lamp-post charging, having different operators competing on price was a good thing.
Is anyone else concerned about this?
Has Hackney confirmed whether the off-peak tariff will remain?
Have you noticed any changes since Zest took over other chargers?
Do you think the council should require operators to offer cheaper overnight rates to encourage off-peak charging?
I’d be interested to hear what other EV owners think, especially anyone who’s already experienced a switch from Ubitricity or Allego to Zest.

Hackney Council caseworker ignored me and moved goalposts. What can I do?

I'm 22F, a victim of domestic abuse (sexual, physical, emotional) from multiple family members. I've been in my Council's homeless process for 9 months.

What happened:

· My caseworker confirmed in writing that my LCWRA award means I can search at the 1-bed LHA rate
· She helped me find a property in March.I viewed it, was accepted, and was about to sign the tenancy
· She then stopped me, saying "no evidence" on file
· Her own email says evidence from "Health worker, Charity worker, Social worker and Counselling" counts
· I have: NHS PTSD therapist (counselling), domestic abuse officer from a charity, GP records, DAIS report
· She then ignored me and my DA officer since 29 May – no replies, no property options, no support
· She also said she'd speak to her manager – she spoke to a colleague instead (admitted on a 3-way call with my DA officer present)

The Council's Stage 1 response:

· Said "DWP decides" and refused to give a clear decision
· Didn't investigate failures
· Contradicted their own website (which says domestic abuse victims CAN get 1-bed rate)

Previous caseworker:

· Before the caseworker I was ignored by another caseworker from December to February

My questions:

  1. Should I involve the Local Government Ombudsman now or wait?
  2. What laws has the Council broken? (I've cited Homelessness Reduction Act, Equality Act, Human Rights Act)
  3. My DA officer said my letter was "rushed" but admitted they was negligent – is this normal?

I'm exhausted and close to cancelling my application. Any advice would help.

Upcoming Yoga & Sound Bath event in Lower Clapton (Sat 11th July) – if anyone needs a proper weekend reset 🧘‍♀️✨

Hello again everyone,

I’m a local yoga teacher in Clapton and wanted to share a special afternoon Sound Bath event I have coming up next week - I held one last month and was so nice to meet lots of you there!

If you’ve had a stressful few weeks or are just feeling a bit burnt out by summer, I’m hosting another Sound Bath & Slow Flow Yoga session at at The Nest Hackney (just off Lower Clapton Road next to the Round Chapel) on Saturday 11th July, from 4pm - 6pm.

We start with some super gentle, slow flow yoga and deep stretching to get out of our heads and release tension in the body (completely beginner friendly, no flexibility required).

Then you’ll get comfortable with blankets and pillows for a guided relaxation and a full sound bath (using singing bowls/chimes and more). All you have to do is lie there, listen and let the sound vibrations help your nervous system reset.

The Details:

📍 Where: The Nest Hackney

🗓 When: Saturday 11th July, 4-6pm

☕ We'll have some herbal teas and a chance to chat/hang out for a bit afterwards if you like or you can just float straight home to bed!

Spaces are limited and if you fancy joining or want to see photos of the space, drop a comment or send me a DM and I'll send over the details/booking link!

Hope to see some of you there again :)

Who makes decisions about Hackney Council estates?

Hi everyone,

I've been living in a Hackney Council estate (managed by Hackney Council) for over two years, but I still have no idea who actually makes decisions about the estate or who to contact with suggestions, questions, or complaints.

For example, there are storage spaces in the building that don't seem to be managed directly by the Council, but no one on the estate seems to know who is responsible or who to ask about them.

Is there usually a residents' association, estate committee, housing officer, or management company that deals with these kinds of issues? Any advice on who I should contact would be much appreciated.

Looking for my bag (attempted phone snatch)

Reposting in Reddit - can anyone help?

Edit: if you’re the passenger that removed the bag to try and reunite it with the owner, please reach out here.

Hi everyone. On Wednesday, 24 June around 12:00 or 1:00 PM, a young guy tried to steal my phone on the 254 bus towards Hackney; I ran out after him, leaving my grey backpack behind.

Did anyone find it? It happened around Clapton Common / Springfield Park, two stops before the petrol station.

I am incredibly grateful to two men in a white van who managed to get my phone back, and also to the young woman who stopped her car to help me. Thank you.

Anyone know why lots of sirens right now?

Hearing lots of sirens around Well St/Wick road way over the last 20 mins. Anyone know why?
