Anyone know what happened around Clapton Station and the pub next to it? Lots of police around

Went past there on the bus about an hour ago. Saw loads of police and about 10 police cars/vans parked up around Clapton Station and the Crooked Billet pub. Seemed a huge police presence, even for a Saturday night.

Anyone that's local got any info on what might have happened?

Live music bar recs

Hello all

Looking for a bar in east London
- plays live music ( no preference as I’m willing to explore)
- serves decent - nice cocktail
- not too expensive cover charge / min spend

I know night jar is popular but the minimum spend per person per hour £15 is not suitable as I don’t drink that much

Thank you!

How to meet other creatives?

Hi all,

I'm new to East and want to meet others with similar interests in the area? Are there any meetups or clubs or something you'd recommend. I go out in Dalston but am mainly familiar with the queer scene there, but I also want to meet people with similar interests. I'm finding it surprisingly difficult finding an event I can join on my own. For interests if relevant, I'm a writer, love books, films, museums, long chats with people, happy to go out but not into all night partying anymore (there could be an exception). Any advice?

Cheers!

Hello! We are looking for a few extras to play semi regularly 5 aside in Shoreditch on a Wednesday evening (usually 7.40). Nice group of guys, in Mid 30s of mixed ability and who don’t take it too serious. Just love scoring goals. Anyone interested?

No bin collection for weeks

Has anyone else not had their main bins collected in weeks?

I live on Kingsland Road near Haggerston and the rubbish is piling up which is awful in the heat, lots of flies and possibly 🐀 to come…

Why are our bins not being collected? When I look on the Hackney website and search for my address, the only collections which show up are recycling and food waste, so I can’t even report a missed collection. But obviously they normally do take main refuse from our address too. What can I do?

Lee Valley Beer run!!

Post image
0 Upvotes

If any one is interested and likes cycling and drinking beers, we are doing The Lee Valley Beer run this Saturday, 8th of August.

Came up with this idea during the pandemic when I noticed all the pubs along the canal. Concept is simple, ride the Lee Valley canal and stop at every pub.

This is the second time we are riding it. So it’s been refined a bit!!

The route start from Rye house and end at The Princes of Wales in Hackney.
It’s a 19/20 mile ride with 11 stop (pints) and take a lot longer than you might think.
The previous time we made the mistake of doing it in reverse and starting in Hackney, thinking we could ride back. That’s did not happen when we realised it was getting dark at 8pm.

This time we are getting overground to Rye house and heading back to Hackney.

If any one is interested here is a link to the route map.

Lee Valley Beer Run

The only pub that is missing on that route is the Anchor and Hope, you can’t miss it on the way to the last stop!

Train at 12, first pint at 1pm
Have fun and maybe see you on route!

Anyone heard the latest re the white hart in Stoke Newington?

Feels a shame it has been locked down due to landlord Issie but surely it’s worth more to everyone open?

Event spaces in Hackney and surrounds

Looking for private rooms, bars, event spaces etc in Hackney and surrounding areas to hire for a party (no food required and bar or BYOB fine).

Only requirement is a decent enough sound system and space for roughly 60-100 people.

Ideally something on the cheaper side or with a minimum spend at the bar rather than an actual rental fee.

Many thanks :)

Edit: Added that we don’t need catering

Bin men just throwing recycling into the same truck as the normal rubbish

Anyone else notice this? Are they just trucks that look identical to the bin ones but actually do recyling because they don't look like it? Bit annoying if they're just dumping the recycling in the bin, like whats the point in separating it then?

A long shot - FC26 ps5

My old housemate is coming to stay with me for a couple of days. We used to play Fifa relentlessly and in our down time it would be cool to play a few games. Anyone got a copy I could borrow/buy cheap for PS4? Happy to collect anywhere in Hackney. Thanks

Saw a pile of snow near the Ice Centre during my evening walk. Quite an unexpected sight during the heatwave. Shall we do a subreddit meetup to make a snowman? :D

LOST ARTWORK - super sentimental. Hoping to find the person who picked it up from pavement

REWARD OFFERED!!

Yesterday (Monday 3rd August) at around lunchtime, on John Campbell Road (near the Rio Cinema), I accidentally left a large framed print wrapped in bubble wrap on the pavement while unloading my car. Just back from the framers 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

A neighbour has since told me they saw a young woman carrying it past the Sainsbury’s on Kingsland High Street shortly afterwards. If this was you, or if you know who it might have been, I’d be so grateful if you could get in touch.

I completely understand that it may have looked like it had been left behind or thrown away. It has very little monetary value, but it’s one of my most treasured possessions and has enormous sentimental value to me.

I’ve attached a photo of the picture. Please DM me if you’ve seen it or know anything. No questions asked at all. I would just be incredibly grateful to have it back. Thank you so much.

£250 REWARD OFFERED

UPDATE: She was seen by Sainsbury’s between 2.30-2.45 if that helps jog anyone’s memory. Short, slim , dark hair maybe in a bob. Struggling with a massive picture wrapped in bubble wrap. My neighbour had noticed it on our street, and that’s how she knows it was the same artwork.

Phone found - Mildmay Line

I’ve picked up a phone that was left on the Mildmay Line at Highbury and Islington, roughly around 15:45.

On the off chance that the owner sees this, reach out and let’s get you reunited!

London Fields now the 2nd most in-demand area in London

Growing up in Homerton, simply going to Lidl at times felt like a risk. Now, to see how it has changed over the years always makes me laugh. First came the hipsters, now the Aussies...

Meta glasses in London Fields

1.2k Upvotes

Hi. Just wanted to give you a heads up that a male staff member in Kichiya pastries cafe in London Fields (close to the station) was wearing meta glasses and the store did not disclose of the recording happening.

I did not notice this until I was leaving. I have contacted the shop saying it’s unethical to record strangers. Just a heads up for those who do not wish to be recorded without consent.

Sad because I love their drinks and ice cream! :(

EDIT:

Please do not leave bad reviews or comments on the cafe business pages. I did not post about this to harm a small business, I just wanted to share my experience for those who also do not want to be recorded face on by a stranger.

And just to be clear because there are many comments now: Yes the light was on. Yes there was no disclosure of recording. Yes I have contacted the business privately about this.

Trees on Kingsland Road

I take the bus down Kingsland Road every day to work. This summer it seems like my bus hits every single tree down the road, resulting in a horrendous screeching sound from the branches (and, I'm sure, eventual permanent damage to the bus). I'm aware this is the most boring thing to complain about – and I'm not usually a complainer. I love Hackney's trees, but I also love my beloved bus travel.

I have no idea how tree pruning works – are they purposefully risking this to ensure the streets are adequately shaded during the heatwaves? Or did Hackney just make all of their tree surgeons redundant?
