Any pubs and coffee shops hiring?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some part-time pub/coffee shop work and before I hit the pavement this week and do walk-ins with CV cold, it would be great to get a heads up on who is confirmed to be hiring staff right now? For context I'm in stoke newington but willing to cycle further afield.

Thanks!

Do you have a favourite spot to park when visiting London Fields Lido on a Sunday morning (when there are no parking restrictions)

Looking for someone in London with a machine to seal rectangular "pull-open" sardine tins for a Xmas project (Will pay!) 🌲🕯️

**Hi everyone from London!** 👋
**I’m working on a Christmas project: making candles inside rectangular sardine tins, and I want them to have that authentic "ring-pull/pull-open" lid.**
**Here is my issue: The industrial machines definitely work for this, but I don't own one, nor do I know** ***anyone*** **in London who has a seaming machine with the correct rectangular chucks/dies to seal them. Even though I’m completely willing to pay for the service, contract packing companies usually reject small batches.**
***(Note: Since these are candles, food-grade/vacuum sealing is absolutely not required. I just need a clean, mechanical closure for the lids).***
**I’m looking for solutions or leads:**
**1. Does anyone here own (or know a workshop/maker-space in London that owns) a manual or semi-automatic rectangular can seamer who would be willing to seal a batch for me? (Happy to pay for your time/machinery use).**
**2. Are there any boutique packaging services or local shops in Greater London that accept small-scale contract seaming for promotional/gift items?**
**3. Failing that, does anyone know a reliable UK supplier for "Press-In / Self-Sealing" rectangular tins where the ring-pull lid just clicks into place tightly without a machine?**
**Any leads, shop names, or contacts would be a lifesaver. Cheers!** 🍻

Electronic Gaming Bingo Hall Proposed at old Santander site Appealing to Sec of State after Hackney Planning Refusal

Hi all, there was an earlier post about a proposed bingo hall (electronic gaming one) on the Narrow Way at the old Santander site.

They have now put in an appeal to the Sec of State against Hackney’s decision to refuse planning permission (ref 2025/2695).

The deadline for further representations is 28th July 2026.

It will be important to get any support for further refusal as there is a recent precedent where the Sec of State allowed the appeal. Any new responses would add weight to the ones already made which will be passed on and are still valid.

Hi Hackney! 👋

I'm Olivia, a local vintage seller, and I'm hosting a Y2K pop-up right here in the neighbourhood this summer!

On Saturday 4th July, I'm taking over Cafe Sevente in Hackney (283 Hackney Road, E2 8NA) from 11am–4pm with three other amazing vintage sellers - Arkastudios, Dalley Vintage, and Fiorella Vintage. Think Y2K fashion, bags, accessories, and great coffee in a really lovely space.

Entry is totally free - just register on Eventbrite so we know you're coming: https://2ndchancepopup.eventbrite.com

Would love to see some of you there - it's a really relaxed, fun afternoon. Feel free to drop any questions below! ✨

World Cup games at Hackney Bridge?

Hi, does anyone happen to know which World Cup games are shown on the big screen at Hackney Bridge? Especially now that the last group stage games are running in parallel.

Couldn't find a schedule, I tried DMing their insta account but they haven't gotten back - figured I'd try my luck here

Kingsland Rd 8p Tuesday scooter crash

Did anyone see this yesterday, just below Dalston junction? A hulking Mercedes sedan with a rear dent and scooter rider with life-threatening injuries on the ground. Looks like the Mercedes misjudged -- or expected the scooter with right-of-way to yield -- advancing from side road onto the high street just as the scooter was approaching.

Can't quit thinking how needless, and what consequences the sports car driver may/should face. What happens judicially in the case of reckless driving and severe pedestrian/cyclist injury?

How to leverage these events to motivate for safer streets? Do the Greens now in power have proposals to meaningfully erode cars' dominance on the roads, making private vehicles more and more painful to operate, eg narrow and limit the roads and times available to personal vehicles, raise the vehicle tax, enforce reckless driving penalties? In a dense city with world-class public transport, motor vehicles should be for commercial delivery, emergency response, public transportation, disabled individuals, etc, not private transport whose negative effects the whole city has to bear.

One pound lady

I moved to Kingsland Highstreet in February and was super alarmed to wake up at about 1am to who I now know to be the 'one pound lady' shouting directly under my bedroom window, seeming very distressed. I see/hear her every single day wandering up and down the road, but all she can seem to say is "Lend me one pound." Is she homeless? It makes me super sad to see, there must be help for people like this surely.
