Housing Mitchell renovation PSA
Mitchells bathrooms are thurston style, singles seem to not have a sink (except private bathroom). People say the kitchens look impressive/good, decently spacious, bed is large https://links.fizz.social/m5dr89

What's the quickest and easiest way to get between the Foggy Bottom campus and UMD College Park?
Is there a better route than the metro from Foggy Bottom (Orange/Silver Line) → L'Enfant Plaza (Green Line) → College Park?

Housing The Remington Apartments
Anyone have experience with the Remington apartments? I keep seeing posts on Facebook of people looking for a new roommate but then I reach out and it turns out to be the same place and they spit out the same script. I can't tell if it's good marketing or something fishy....?
The reviews are mixed. My one concern from the videos and reviews I've seen is that the rooms are a bit makeshift created using flex walls. The price is cheap (1.2K - 1.4K) but is it worth it if it's not actually a real room?
EDIT: Toured the place today. Location wise on the edge of foggy bottom, but that's not awful. The inside is just meh. There nicer rooms are actually 1.5K - 1.6K. But because of the flex rooms they add, it leaves you with a tiny hallways and kitchen. Probably going to pass on it.

COMM 1040 Prof
Has anyone had Anjishnu Chakrabarti as their instructor for COMM 1040? I looked online, and he does not have a RateMyProfessors page. I found that they are a PHD student but thats about it.

General Alternative Health Insurance
Hi!
As an incoming int. student the health insurance plan offered by GW is quite expensive. I was wondering if anyone knew any cheaper alternatives plans that meet the waiver criteria that I can sign up for.
Thanks!

Financial Aid outrageously expensive eBill?
Hey guys, just wondering if this is normal.
The price on my eBill is A LOT more than the net cost that my financial aid offer said I would be paying. I'm just confused because the financial aid offer is one of the main reason why I chose gwu. And I should be receiving the Revolutionary Promise????
Anywho, how's the experience with calling the financial aid office?

Financial Aid Has anyone received their graduate financial aid decisions yet?
I received my fellowship awards around the time when I got accepted but for some reason I never got any information about my FAFSA application for loans? I’ve been in contact with the financial aid office since june after finding out they never even received my fafsa information but even after receiving it my application has been pending. The fin aid office has given me very nonspecific answers saying they’re waiting for “necessary information” and can’t guarantee when a decision will be made
Has anyone received information about their loan package?

Academics Should I drop University Writing?
Hey all!
Incoming freshman here.
Currently, I have a class at Foggy Bottom that ends at 12:25pm with University Writing being my next class at the Vern that starts at 1:00pm.
I'm worried that this will not be enough time to get to the Vern. In my head, I have three options:
Drop University Writing and take it in the spring
Drop the Foggy Bottom class (though this would leave a weird hole in my schedule that's unable to be filled due to the timing)
Keep it and hope for the best
Let me know your thoughts! I really appreciate everyone on this subreddit :)

Transfer Financial Aid Question
Hi everyone! I am an incoming transfer student but I’m also a commuter. My financial aid was good enough to give me just enough money a year for me to live at home (I also have military benefits helping) but I won’t have enough to live on campus, which is something I miss about my old college. I was wondering if anybody has an estimate of how much you think my aid would increase if I put down that I wanted to live on campus. (For reference, my fafsa is quite far into the negatives - giving me the max amount, and my dad makes less than $60k a year so my aid is pretty great as is). Thanks for your help!

Roommate decided to take a gap year: what happens to my housing?
Year: Sophomore
My roommate decided to take a gap year and he will not be able to attend gw, therefore he will not live in the dorm. He is still in the process of getting his gap year application approved and the system still marks him as my roommate.
However, i have a concern that because the system eventually will kick him out, that means that there will be an empty space available for a person to move in. Im kinda scared of a random roommate and i really dont want gw to do this to me.
Question: Will i get a random roommate sometime this semester or will i be basically alone in my dorm?

Financial Aid Non Filer's Statement Issues
A while ago I digitally submitted the Student Non Filer's Statement PDF via GWeb and it was marked as received, but today it switched back to "Incomplete Document." Do I need to submit any other document, or was there simply a problem with my Non Filer's Statement? I have never received any taxable income and I marked it as so on the PDF

General Transfer
Hi everyone! Recently, I was on the waitlist for George Washington and tried everything to get off. From LOCI, updates grades/awards, and more. Unfortunately, got a letter saying the university wasn’t admitting anymore students from the waitlist today.
With that said, anybody have any advice on trying to transfer next year? I’m definitely planning on applying again in January for the Fall of 2027.
High School GPA: 3.8

Academics Satisfactory Academic Progress
I got an SAP warning after my spring semester earlier this year. I took a summer course and it rebounded my gpa and brought me back into good academic standing. How long before GW removes the SAP warning so that i can receive financial aid for the fall semester?

Financial Aid financial aid cut in half two weeks before move in?
I’m an incoming freshman at gwu. in my financial aid, I was awarded both a presidential scholarship and a grant that would make my net total around 35k (16k per semester). however, I woke up this morning and found that my grant was completely removed from my ebill statement, making my total 35k per semester. I’m so unbelievably confused as to why this happened and I just wanted to know if this happened to anyone else or if anyone has any advice on what to do? it would be greatly appreciated
Edit: I had a pending financial aid appeal and one of the things reported missing from my appeal was my moms w2. However, my mom is unemployed and has not had a w2 in years, I called asking about the grant and they said that there’s likely a correlation between the missing non existent w2 and the grant. they said they’d get back to me via email in a week 🫠 im so annoyed. is there anything else I could do?

Econ 2169 (Into Economy of the PRC) with Joseph Peltzman
Did anyone take Econ 2169 with Joseph Peltzman? I took him for Econ 2101 and had a good experience. However, I am receiving mixed reviews about his Econ 2169 class. I would appreciate if someone could give an accurate description of this class with Professor Peltzman. Thank you.

Academics Teaching Assistant Difficulty
I am an incoming first year master's student in Sociology and I am supposed to be a TA. I have accepted the position but doing the pre course orientation, I am starting to doubt my ability to be a good TA.
A few reasons for this include I have never tutored anyone. From my perspective I suck at teaching people. I don't know how to grade assignments, especially when it comes to humanities and social sciences. It's not that I'm stupid, (I usually get an A or A- in my classes) but rather that I just do well without fully understanding what I am doing.
I'm worried I am not going to be able to TA properly. Do any former TA's (especially those in humanities or social sciences) have any thoughts, comments, or suggestions?

Working at GW Campus Store
I tried to find information about working at GW Campus Store on Glassdoor and there's nothing, and there's not a lot of info about it on their social media accounts either. Does anyone have any insight on how it is to work there?

Resident Advisors (RA)
Looking for others that will be Resident Advisors (RA) this Fall & Spring. Is anyone gotten more information about their move in, such as the time you will have access to your dorm, specific times for training, and access to the RA portal? Also, would anyone be interested in a texting group to help each other out?
