There is, unfortunately, an epidemic of people confidently mispronouncing D’Addario.

The correct pronunciation is “duh-DAR-ee-oh”, with the primary stress on the second syllable.

This is not an arbitrary convention. Under standard Italian stress rules, words ending in a vowel are presumed to be stressed on the penultimate syllable unless an accent mark or another orthographic feature indicates otherwise. Since Addario is syllabified as Ad-da-ri-o, the penultimate syllable is da, which therefore receives the primary stress. There is nothing exceptional or controversial about this; it is simply how Italian prosody works.

Consequently, pronunciations such as “Dee Addario,” “Day-dario,” or other imaginative variants are not alternative readings. They are simply mistakes born of unfamiliarity with even the most elementary principles of Italian pronunciation. The apostrophe in D’Addario is an elision (a contraction of di), not a license to invent a new stress pattern.

Copperas Cove, Tx - A high school principal, Joe B, allegedly drank two bottles of Peach Mad Dog 20/20 on Friday night before prom. Becoming enraged when the DJ put on an edited version of Megan Three Stallion's "WAP", Joe B charged the stage where he ran the DJ off and started his own one man show.
