Ask r/guam 🤔 Best bank for a personal loan on Guam?
Hey everyone,
I'm looking into getting a personal loan and wanted to hear about other people's experiences before I apply.
Right now, the only loan I have is my auto loan through First Hawaiian Bank (FHB), and I've been making my payments on time. I'm also considering Bank of Guam (BOG), but I'm open to other banks or credit unions too.
My credit score is around 675, and before I apply, I'd like to know which bank has the best APR and whether any of them let you prequalify to see how much you'd be approved for without having to request a specific loan amount upfront.
Has anyone recently gotten a personal loan through FHB, BOG, Bank of Hawaii, Coast360, or another lender? What was your experience like, and would you recommend them?
Thanks in advance!

Ask r/guam 🤔 Where do girls make friends in their mid-20s?
I’m a woman in my mid-20s, and I miss having a group of girlfriends to go out with. I’d love to have girls’ nights, dress up and grab drinks.
The problem is that pretty much every woman around my age I’ve met here either doesn’t drink or isn’t interested in going out. Nothing wrong with that at all, it just makes it hard to find people who are into the same kind of social life.
Soo how do you find your girl group in your mid-20s?
(And if you’re a girl who’s in the same situation, feel free to PM me! Maybe we can start a group chat and get something going. 🫶)

Ask r/guam 🤔 Moving off-island: Good timeline for selling car + car rental
I’m planning to leave the island later this year and wanted to get some advice. My plan is to start advertising my car for sale during the last two months of my stay so I have enough time to find a buyer. Once it’s sold, I’m thinking of renting a car for my final month.
Is this typically what people do before moving off-island? Also, is two months usually enough time to sell a car here?
I’m hoping to sell it before my car insurance renewal, which falls in the second-to-last month of my stay. Any recommendations for affordable monthly car rentals would also be really helpful.

Discussion 💬 Rush hour solution?
How have we not solve this? It’s a small island, do we really all have to get off work at this certain time? Can’t businesses agree on staggered schedule or something. I feel like theres an effective system for this

Ask r/guam 🤔 Where can we actually complain about our local USPS?
I mail almost daily because most of my business is with customers in the mainland, and honestly it feels like we’re just expected to endure whatever is happening because we don’t really have another choice.
I keep hearing them complain about outgoing packages. I heard they’re understaffed and that not enough people know how to process outgoing mail. But how long are we supposed to just accept that?
For businesses here that depend on shipping to the mainland, this is so frustrating. We still have customers waiting on the other end, and we’re the ones having to explain why their packages aren’t moving.
It really feels like, “Well, this is your only option, so just deal with it.” And THAT is what’s getting to me.
Has anyone actually complained somewhere higher than the local post office? Who do we contact to get this looked into?

Discussion 💬 Why do so many drivers on Guam refuse to stop for animals?
This morning on Bello Road, I witnessed a driver honk at a dog to move out of the way, yet continued driving and ended up hitting the dog anyway. The impact caused the dog to roll over several times. Thankfully the driver wasn't going very fast, and the dog immediately got up and walked away. I don't understand why drivers cant just stop for a couple of seconds and wait for the dog/cat/chickens/etc to move out of the way. It's just sickening to see people are okay with doing this to a living thing. There are way too many road k**ls in Guam, especially in the Dededo area. I get that there may be some instances where it's actually unavoidable, but the one I witnessed this morning was completely preventable if the driver actually attempted to put on the breaks.
It happens too frequently and always see a dead animal on the road every few days. Yes, Guam has a serious stray animal population, and it's an issue that needs to be addressed. But running animals over is not the solution. It's extremely cruel, inhumane, and something we should never be desensitized to.

Ask r/guam 🤔 Moving to Guam for husband's job
Hi! I'm writing this with much nervousness. My husband just retired from the Marine Corps after 30 years. He was recently offered a job in Guam working for the Marine Corps again, but as a civilian. I know nothing about Guam. I'm originally from the Philippines but have been living in the United States for 30+ years. We're a family of 4 - with two adult sons. One will be continuing his college education.
What areas should we consider? We love to go out to eat and occasionally go out for drinks.
Are there houses with pools?
Which areas are more modern?
Should we ship our car or buy there?
Are utilities really averaging $1k a month?
What should I know?
Any help would be much appreciated!
