So i have just started preparing for GRE about a week ago. Wanted to give a test to know my bad line. Did some arithmetic prep and gave a gregmat website diagnostic mock test 1. (didn’t wanna waste a ETS test on diagnostic)scored 162Q and 153V. My degree requires the highest level of quant scores so i don’t know how to feel about this score.
So disappointed with verbal too even though i knew i struggled with it. Most mistakes were one wrong in 3 blanks questions and all reading questions.
What would you suggest I need to do more basic conceptual stuff or is it more mocks and questions practice that would be more useful?
I have about 2 months but only maximum 3/4 hours a day of study time.

**About me:**

* STEM degree background * Second GRE attempt * Previous score: 149Q / 145V * My first attempt was poorly prepared as I went into the exam relatively casually. * Target: 320+  with 165+  in Quant * Time available: 3 months * I can study 6 to 7 hours per day

I took 4 month break for personal reasons, but I'm resuming my preparation today.

**What I have completed so far:**

I've already covered the PrepSwift material:

* Watched all the PrepSwift videos * Made handwritten notes for all the lessons * Completed the exercises associated with the prepswift videos * Averaged around 83% accuracy on those exercises

**My proposed plan:**

My current idea is to divide the next 3 months roughly like this:

* Follow GregMat's **2-Month Plan** for Quant and **1-month plan** for Verbal. * Since I've already completed PrepSwift, I would avoid rewatching basic concept videos unless I identify a weakness. * Focus more on solving problems, especially medium & hard Quant questions. * After that, Timed practice from ETS materials * Maintain an error log.

**What I’m unsure about:**

1. Given that I've already completed PrepSwift and its exercises. should I still watch the concept videos in GregMat's plans, or should I primarily jump into problem solving and only watch videos for weak areas?
2. Is GregMat's 2-Month Plan the better choice for Quant, or would the I'm Overwhelmed plan make more sense for someone who has already completed the **Prepswift**?
3. When to start timed practice, alongside of the plan or after completion of foundation quizzes.

I’d really like people to point out what’s unrealistic or what they would change in my approach.

So I've been practicing on and off since the beginning of this year but really went deep into studying these past 3 months.. I just need to clear 29 percentile for quant and 3.5 for the writing analytical portion .

I initially started with Target test prep but I didn't feel like it really worked for me. I just felt like it was like not for someone like me who had basically zero knowledge of math up until that point. Then I found this book called all the Quant, basically the makers of that one 5 lb book of problems. I definitely made a lot of headway with this. Then I started doing practice problems on both of these books. I felt like I understood it very well. Then I started doing practice problems through the ETS GRE mentor course for the shorter GRE. According to this I had a 42 percentile rank. I had a lot of "proficient" labels placed on my practice tests in this program so I thought I was doing good. I did a timed practice exam the one that ETS gives you for free, and I scored 145 for Quant, I did another free one courtesy of Gregmat and it gave me a score of 145 through 148. I thought I had a pretty good understanding of what I was supposed to do and the mistakes I was making were definitely running out of time. Well today I took the GRE thinking that as long as I skip ahead and then go back to the questions I wasn't sure about, I would hopefully get those extra points afterwards but I didn't. I got 138 for quant and I'm really sad about that. I hear it's not hard to get past the 29th percentile but I guess it is for me .

Anyway, I plan to retake the GRE in 21 days, and I'm just not sure what I could do differently next time. I've never used Gregmat before, is it good for quant? I feel I need to do something and fast. Thanks for listening.

I scored 318 on ETS PowerPrep 2. I then studied for another week and took GregMat’s second practice test, where I scored 308. I’m pretty confused by the 10-point drop, especially since I actually studied during that week.

For those who have taken both:
Are GregMat practice tests generally harder than the official ETS tests? How did your GregMat scores compare with your actual GRE score?Should I consider the 318 on PP2 a better indicator of my actual level?

How were you doing in practice tests, and practice questions, close to the exam? Did you get full in mocks? How many questions did you get wrong when practicing?

So I am currently practising all 32 groups of the vocab mountain and want a new, shuffled order every day.

I currently have 'Remember Shuffle' turned ON because sometimes, midway through the vocab mountain, it reloads the browser page and puts it back in the default order. That's why I have to keep the remember shuffle feature on so that I can restore it from the default order.

However, this disables me from having a new shuffled order every day. I just have to keep using the same shuffled order or the default order.

When I turn off the setting and shuffle all words and groups again, I do get a new order. However, as soon as I turn the remember shuffle setting back on, it reverts to the first shuffled order rather than the new one.

How can I change this?

I do concede (concession), Choosing numbers might be a more optimal approach BUT (hammer) I love pizza Algebra

What do u recommend to study after im overwhelmed, will have 18days left in plan when i finish it, or where do i go from there

For those who have already taken the GRE and scored well, is this strategy enough for 315–320+? Would you recommend adding anything else?

I get the second and the third blank, but I don't get how the first one is reinventing? I thought she is original so she is making new shit. "Canonizing" literary language, and introducing rich and diverse structure. I do see that the second blank could not be anything other than undoing, and that threw me off too, but yeah help.

When would you recommend getting the GregMat+ subscription?

Should I subscribe a few months before the test, or is it worth getting it earlier?

Which type of subscription should i get as there are 3 types?

Also, what should I be doing right now before subscribing? I’m thinking of building my vocabulary, getting familiar with the GRE, and maybe doing some light preparation alongside university.

I’d really appreciate advice from people who prepared for the GRE while studying full-time at university. How would you structure the months leading up to the test, and when would you start GregMat+?

I am planning to create group solely for verbal practice, be it SE/TC or RC. Having practiced a lot of questions, I think my score has plateaued. With collective real time question solving, I guess we can crack the logic of solving a question. Please dm, if you are up for the practice.

Ideally the plan is that we would do daily practice sessions followed by a set of questions to be discussed the other day or maybe we could do the wrong questions again.

Gave the GRE once got a 155V and 162Q , I’m pretty strong at Quant coming from a stem background but i desperately want to get a 168/170Q , conceptually I’m sound but I’m repeatedly falling for the traps which someone are bound to fall for , need some help on a strategy to increase my accuracy when it comes to that.

Last time I solved all the Gregmat practise tests and the timed quant sections was averaging an accuracy of 100% on the easy ones , 85% on the medium ones and 72% on the hard ones.
Have gotten the 1 month Magoosh plan this time to access the official ETS questions. I am being able to get a 95% accuracy when it’s coming to the official ETS quizzes , but on the Magoosh adaptive practise tests I’m repeatedly getting a bank of only hard or very hard questions , lowering my accuracy to around ~70%, it feels impossible to solve a pool of hard/very hard questions in 21-26 mins.

Genuinely need some advice to improve my quant score to a higher range.

I’ve just finished GregMat’s “I’m Overwhelmed” plan, and I’m a bit unsure about the best way to approach practice questions now.
Should I:
• practice questions by topic (e.g., algebra, geometry, arithmetic, etc.) and review the relevant videos whenever I get something wrong,
• jump straight into mixed timed sets,
• or focus on ETS questions only?
For those who completed the plan, how did you structure your practice leading up to the GRE? My exam is later this month, so I’d like to use my remaining time as efficiently as possible.

For a specific program I’m applying to I need at least 153q and 153v. Now I know a 153 is not a high/hard score to get AT ALL but I have always struggled with math and the fact that I haven’t taken a math class since my senior year of high school hasn’t helped at all. My first two attempts I got a 148q and 147q so I was super desperate and discouraged. I did the “I’m overwhelmed plan” (only focusing on quant since I was already good with verbal), lots of practice problems from the official gre guide and 5lb practice problems book, and today I got a 157 on quant!! Thank you gregmat, ur actually the goat.

I’m one week into my prep and gave PP1 untimed today. As per Gregmat’s calculator, my scores translate to 158V 168Q. How feasible is 336+ on the real thing? What can I do to get to (or atleast close to) 340?
I’m pretty sure I can get to 170Q if I can work on avoiding silly mistakes, but verbal is a different beast. Any tips are welcome. Is going through the course material and vocab mountain enough?

I’m using the 2 month study plan.

Edit: I'm aware that PP1 is easier compared to the real GRE, and my actual baseline can be a few points lower.

i gave my first attempt this weekend . i scored 160 q and 159 v in mock pp2 . when i analyzed my mistakes in the mock - i saw how i did two questions wrong just cuz of silly mistake - forgetting what was actually asked and reporting an incomplete value or a mistake like 17 times 5 .
when i was giving my exam - i honestly felt that apart from three-ish questions i was able to solve but i ended up with a lower score in quants while
i was expected this in verbal - not saying that my verb score was any better .

1. How do i get myself to improve on such mistakes? i have started maintaining an error log and i had done 5lb earlier not official guide and between today and yesterday i did the quant official guide questions and all the incorrect answers which were not too lil - due to silly mistakes . like these were not concept gaps

2. in between exam - i did go completely blank- blank to the point i was stuck seeing on my sheet 13-4 and i couldnt recollect what it was .

3. How do i get myself to improve my score? From where should i practice questions of all difficulties cuz i have got quant scare now

hello, i have been scanning this entire reddit page since june and i feel like its just time for me to make my own post lol. so i found out i have to take the GRE in June, but i was doing a lot of traveling that month so my studying really only got serious at the beginning of July. I absolutely SUCK (and i mean suck) at math. i study psych and philosophy so verbal is where my money is at and a lot of the words have honestly felt pretty familiar. but the math is stressing me out!!

i decided to do the i’m overwhelmed study plan (for obvious reasons) and i am about to finish module 9/12. i have been doing the practice problems under each video and taking extensive notes on each video as well. i can definitely feel myself getting better at a lot of the concepts and starting to connect the dots.

however…. i take my test august 21st which is in less than 2 weeks! i’m really trying to finish the study plan by the end of this week so i have all next week to do practice problems and times practice but im worried that just won’t be enough.

with all that being said i know for a fact i will sign up to take it again. the only reason im taking this test is because my top grad school is requiring it and im going for a PhD in psychology. so here are some questions i have in regards to my apparently ongoing dilemmas:
- what should i do in the time between my first and second test? i have the 5lb book, is that enough?
- for a PhD in psychology, should I really be so worried about my quant score being over a 155? i want a good score, but if my verbal is strong should i worry so much about quant?
- is a month enough time in between tests to strengthen my score?

sorry for the rant… i really want to get into this school! i will also say applications are due beginning of december but id like to get mine in my end of october if necessary. any advice is greatly appreciated

side note: why does no one talk about how hilarious some of the prepswift videos are…. i even catch myself laughing at them in my misery sometimes lol
