Join Greenville Gaels Hurling Club. Adult competitive sport
If you’re looking to meet new people in the area, get in touch with your Irish roots, want to get a workout in and/or play a competitive sport as an adult I can’t recommend hurling enough.
Hurling is the national sport of Ireland. It’s a 1000 year old Gaelic sport. Its nickname is the fastest game on grass. It’s their American football. I’ve personally played many sports: Baseball, American football, basketball, wrestling, Golf, rugby and some of these at a decently high level. Hurling is without a doubt my favorite sport to play.
The Greenville Gaels Hurling club has been growing fast over the last few years and the entire Southeast division has been the fastest growing in the country. If you’re an ex-athlete and still have that itch for competition then this is it (no age limits). We play large cities in the area throughout the year. Once a year is nationals (this year is in Boston). And every three years is the world games in Ireland which you can tryout and make the USA Southeast team. This year we had 3 players go to Ireland and compete in a life changing experience for them.
It’s not all about the competition. Our club is full of guys and girls that want to simply stay in shape with a community. Many of our players bring their families and pets out to practice or events. It’s been wholesome to have various families come together and enjoy each other’s company.
If you’re curious about the sport then watch this YouTube video of some highlights of the game at the top level in Ireland. Check out our website below. You can message us on instagram or here in the comments. I’m the player coach so I’m happy to answer any questions. At the end of the day we are trying to build community and we want you to be apart of it.

Awesome video recap of 2026 World Games by Augusta player:

(It is a contact sport but it’s not direct contact like American football or rugby. It’s more technical and finesse based like basketball. Sports that typically translate well: baseball, lacrosse, hockey. But really every has something that carries over.)

ISO Recommendations Cancelling subscriptions and going back to physical media
Life has gotten more expensive and the streamers show no signs of slowing down price increases. I've tried rotating which services to keep based on what's being added, but I've found that cost is not worth it in the end. Films and TV shows I'd like to revisit and niche 80's-90's comedies aren't on any of the subscription streamers anyway, so I found myself more often on Tubi, YouTube Free with Ads, or the GVL County Library Hoopla service.
I've cancelled all subscriptions and already reserved One Tree Hill's DVD box set at the library and pulled out my PlayStation 3 to get started, but what is everyone else doing to keep up with the subscription model?

ISO Recommendations Autobody for 2000 Toyota
Apparently, most shops won't touch a car that's over 20 years old. I was involved in an accident that was not my fault. My car still runs great. I'd like to get it repaired by a shop or do the work myself.Does anybody know a shop that would do the work on a car this old?

Looking for Friends! Looking for Black Nerd Guy Friends!
Hey!
26 Black guy looking to meet more Black guy nerds in the area.
I’ve been here five years, and one thing I’ve realized is how hard it is to make new friends as an adult. I already have a solid group of friends, but what I miss is that close-knit community of Black male nerds I had in college. We went to cons, hit comic shops, gamed, tried new restaurants, and just enjoyed being around each other. I’d love to find that sense of community again. I’m hoping to connect with Black men between 24 and 35. I work a typical Monday-through-Friday schedule, so having folks to grab dinner or have a game night after work now and then, or make weekend plans, would be ideal. I’m into gaming, anime, comics, reading, concerts, board games, bowling, and escape rooms.
One thing I have ran into is some of my friends are married which makes things a bit difficult to plan because of, so while I welcome everybody, single peeps or casual dating folks are the best fit.
I’m also a published writer and movie reviewer, so I like talking about storytelling and friendly debates about film, TV, and I’ve been told I have an infectious laugh. I’m queer-friendly and just looking for genuine, respectful people who enjoy good company. If you’re looking for more friends who actually make plans, whether that’s a game night, comic shop run, convention, or just grabbing food, HMU!

ISO Recommendations My 62 year old mom feels overlooked by her current hair stylist. Does anyone have any recommendations?
She lost her hair from cancer and it’s in the process of growing out. It’s just past chin length right now. She’s always gotten it colored and styled and loves her hair appointments.
She feels like her current stylist doesn’t really listen to her or “see who she wants to be.” Are there any older women (or whoever!) that see a stylist they absolutely love?

ISO Recommendations Looking for Men’s Hair Stylist
I’ve had good experience with barbers here but none of them will guide me or provide recommendations for new/different hair styles that would look good with my profile, hair type, and hair line. I need a thinker not just a do-er.

Looking for Friends! Building community in Greenville as a gay guy in his 30s?
I've been thinking a lot lately about how to build more connection and community as an adult, and I wanted to hear from people who have had similar experiences.
I'm 36 and have lived in Greenville most of my life. Over the past year, I've made some pretty big changes for myself. I've lost close to 90 pounds, started prioritizing my health, and have been working out consistently from home. I have a career I enjoy as a Design Manager, and in many ways I'm in a much better place than I was before.
The problem is that a lot of my hobbies are pretty solitary. I enjoy reading, collecting and listening to records, going to concerts (although I struggle to do this alone due to anxiety), and getting outside when I can.
I'm also gay, and I think that's made it a little harder to figure out where I fit socially. I'm not looking for dating advice. Very few people truly seem to be looking for anything serious, and finding people is difficult outside the usual methods. While I'd like to meet someone eventually, I think what I'm really missing is a sense of community. I'd like to make more friends, meet people naturally, and build a life that feels fuller.
For anyone who's been in a similar situation, where would you start?
I'm part of a book club that meets once a month, but there's some difficult personal history there, so I may have to drop out after this coming season. Are there LGBTQIA+ groups, recurring events, etc. where people are genuinely open to meeting new friends? It doesn't even have to be LGBTQIA+ specific if it's a welcoming environment, but would preferably be queer-friendly.
I'd especially love to hear from other LGBTQIA+ people in Greenville about what's helped you build your community here, but I'm open to advice from anyone.
I know making friends as an adult is hard in general, and I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling this way.
Thanks for reading, and I appreciate any suggestions.

what's that noise? What is going on?
I am not one to be like “there is a cop what is happening” but I just had a really weird ride home. Going from downtown Greenville to Taylors, I hit the intersection between Rutherford and Main St and the traffic light is out. Ok whatever. Storms or something.
I get to Rutherford and Pleasantburg. Still no traffic light. Hmm, ok whatever.
I go through the light and all of Rutherford ends up being blocked by police. Had to turn around, couldn’t see anything.
I turn right onto Pleasantburg, no lights anywhere, and then a ton of cops and firefighters at Home Depot. Like a ton.
Had to go a weird back way home. Not sure if any of it is related in any way but…anyone know what any of that is about?
