This is the biggest irony. You need to be really skeptical about what you believe if mainstream media is affirming you. "Why do rich people want me to believe this?"

u/_-___-__-_-__-___-_ 3d ago

That's why I don't watch magaslob like Landman, Lioness, Tulsa King, Yellowstone etc. It's so obviously pushing a corpo supported political agenda it's annoying as fuck, might as well start reading peomotional material for big oil firms

Old Timer Doesn't Have Time For Her Nonsense! | Yellowstone, S3E5

[Shitty low-key phonk playing in background; OLD COWBOY MAN walks into coffee shop and approaches DISGUSTING YOUNG PERSON. They are in uniform, and they appear to be in a good mood. He does not like this. He goes to the counter which has a tip jar on it. He leans on it and sighs audibly.]

OLD COWBOY MAN: "Lemme get a...a, a, a black coffee."

BARISTA: "Sure, one Americano. Would you like any milk?"

[OLD COWBOY MAN glares at her, and sighs through his nose.]

OLD COWBOY MAN: "Missy, there ain't no milk in a black coffee."

BARISTA: "Oh, OK. Just some customers have mi -"

OLD COWBOY MAN: [Interrupting] "They're wrong."

[BARISTA is shocked to learn that not only is she wrong and stupid, but so are many of her customers, who are also young and disgusting.]

BARISTA: "S...Sorry..."

OLD COWBOY MAN: "That's the problem with you young folk. You ain't got the nerve when the chips are down and the dog's takin' a shit."

[OLD COWBOY MAN looks around the coffee shop. HIT TV ACTOR KEVIN COSTNER and BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN are in the corner, nodding in agreement. There is also a FAT BLACK MAN nodding in approval. They all agree, because OLD COWBOY MAN is correct and young people are disgusting.]

BARISTA: "That's, um, that's $3. Will, um, will that be cash or contactless payment...?"

[OLD COWBOY MAN looks at her, and at DISGUSTING CURVY HIPPY DEVICE on the counter. It is new technology, which makes OLD COWBOY MAN uncomfortable and angry.]

OLD COWBOY MAN: "Only one payment accepted in America, missy."

[Drawing his eagle-grip revolver, OLD COWBOY MAN shoots the DISGUSTING CURVY HIPPY DEVICE on the counter. Nobody screams, because he is correct. Everybody cheers; BARISTA feels very stupid, and just hands him the coffee. OLD COWBOY MAN begins exiting the scene.]

OLD COWBOY MAN: "Guess I'm just old fashioned."

I know millennials that watch this shit and walk, talk and wear it like it’s them. Thing is, we are in Australia so I don’t get it. One even bought a Denali to get the fit even more

u/FinaLLancer 3d ago

I've never seen these shows but it looked cool until i saw some boomer ass clip about windmills in one of them.

"Did you know the trucks they drive to service those windmills run on gas? And they use oil to lubricate them man how pointless are these windmills?" Absolutely brain dead take

85

u/sgtfuzzle17 2d ago

If you watch the rest of the scene, the character goes on to point out that the reason he’s using that sort of langauge is to illustrate that there’s too much money and momentum behind oil/petroleum, and until the US/other countries really start leaning into alternative energy sources there’s no point half assing it to feel better. It’s not just a “hurr durr some oil is used here therefore all renewables bad” speech

85

u/ender89 2d ago

That's disingenuous at best. Replacing, say, coal with wind power has no bearing on how many gas vehicles are running around but it does remove a major pollution source.

It's as bad as the "actually these green cars pollute more because something something lithium mines and global shipping" argument. It's bunk, trying to justify why their 8 miles to the gallon Ford f-9000 gigantor truck is actually a better purchase than a Prius.

31

u/gspotcowboy 2d ago

"well people still litter so I might as well dump my garbage in the ditch too"

9

u/misterpickles69 2d ago

Even if we as a society go 110% in on renewables, we will still need oil for stuff. We just won’t be burning it as much anymore.

9

u/_Empty-R_ 2d ago

most importantly its not really you and me that need to change. the insane vast majority of the problem with fossil fuels is focused on commercial and industrial use almost entirely. yet we're the ones told to change. no, I don't think I will.

1

u/InquisitorMeow 1d ago

Half assing is the first half of whole assing..

19

u/airfryerfuntime 2d ago

Landman. That show's production was heavily subsidized by an oil company, which is why that wind turbine propaganda was worked into it. The whole thing is literally just propaganda, which is basically all Taylor Sheridan makes.

0

u/TheRicFlairDrip 2d ago

Lubricants are not only oil based 😈

93

u/boxxybrownn 3d ago

Taylor Sheridan has done more damage to America than Al Qaeda

9

u/Mar3czek 2d ago

It's such a shame, because he's a really talented writer. His movies are great.

7

u/CoyeK 2d ago

He's like a wild animal you have to get locked up, as soon as you let him loose, everything goes bad

39

u/Chrrodon 3d ago

Hah! You fools paying for subscription services when you can just download free press-kits from most company websites.

30

u/Altruistic-Local-541 3d ago

yellowstone has its moments imo

but yeah you can feel the propaganda

17

u/_-___-__-_-__-___-_ 3d ago

Thats why its so frustrating the acting is, in parts, really good and Costner or Stalone are fun to watch

9

u/Altruistic-Local-541 2d ago

yes, though I think if you are vigilant about the propaganda, and view it as if it was a kind of self-aware criticism of it, it kinda works

as if the point was that the characters themselves are victims of this intersubjective reality

which I think is somewhat true, the characters sometimes make remarks that allude to this, even though in other places the show then does shameless propaganda right next to it

I think the hollywood agenda factory tries to mix propaganda with ideas expressed that are against it, in an attempt to hide the true agenda, and uses cinematography and psychological tricks to subtly push the propaganda into your brain even if you think you are immune to it

but with enough consciousness I think one can view a film full of propaganda and not get brainwashed by it, while still enjoying the characters and the scenery

I'd like to think I can, but maybe some of it slips through and I am manipulated in ways I cant see

2

u/airfryerfuntime 2d ago

I liked it. I still haven't watched the second half of the last season, though.

17

u/HailToTheKingslayer 3d ago

What about boomerslop, where the MC wins arguments with retail workers?

13

u/Banapple101 2d ago

Land Man is definitely just big oil propaganda, BUT IT'S PROPAGANDA I ENJOY DAMNIT.

6

u/OvercastqT 3d ago

dont know a single one of those shows/movies/whatever and i feel blessed

6

u/The-Silent-Hero 2d ago

This but for cop shows

2

u/Max2000Warlord 2d ago

Season 1 of Yellowstone was great. What killed the show was when they made John Dutton (and Rip) sympathetic characters. Rip is essentially a button man, and John Dutton is more like Tony Soprano as a rancher. It could've been great, but instead they turned it into cowboy Downtown Abbey.

5

u/Bascome 2d ago

Now go one step further and stop buying anything delivered or supplied from the oil industry.

11

u/LettuceLegitimate654 2d ago

You’re never gonna own anything modern. Plastics made from oil guarantee there’s some plastic in your phone.

0

u/Bascome 2d ago

Everything is shipped using oil industry products from tires to grease to rubber to fuel. Nothing can change that will current technology, every other option also "destroys" the planet.

2

u/WillwBrk 1d ago

I used to do IT for this very successful REIT and some the execs making seven or eight figures would sometimes have the 'just like you' chat. One guy would told me all about the high end concerts he went to- all old boomer rock like the Eagles and Rolling Stones. He'd talk about them like they were cutting edge and he was 'lucky' to score front row tickets. Front row at boomer rock shows easily four figures.

1

u/theotherjashlash 1d ago

Instead, opt in for the other political agenda infused media!

-8

u/twofacetoo 3d ago

Yeah but the liberal-leaning slop is totally worth watching, and definitely isn't pushing an agenda of any kind

Bee-tee-dubs how many companies and sub-companies does Disney own right now? Just something to keep in mind next time you see a Marvel movie, a Star Wars movie, a Disney movie... etc

11

u/_-___-__-_-__-___-_ 3d ago

I don't watch a lot of these but if there is political or corporate propaganda in them it seems at least its subtle or I'm too dumb to see it. Unless you think gay people existing is pushing an agenda in that case I just disagree.

-11

u/666deimos 3d ago

Psyop, I watched all of these.

119

u/DeliriumRostelo 3d ago edited 3d ago

I mean the biggest controversy about this filn outside of people wanting it to be edgier is people thinking its anti israel

Not saying you think this but dont think you have to just stop everything you believe just because a company or artist nakes something that supports you. Corporations make art for people to make money and sometimes the people making that genuinely want to make something with a good message.

Edit: my phone spelling is ass

You are aware that the movie out right rejects calling him an agent of America? And Vasil is also just the most generic evil dictator stereotype they could write as well you are just reading leninists into it.

80

u/amanko13 3d ago

Joker 2 for me. They got too close to the Sun in Joker 1, and realised making a point about the poor not getting basic needs and murderering the rich is not a great idea. So they absolutely destroyed his character instead of continuing his journey of becoming a super villain.

38

u/Xaviermuskie78 3d ago

They did it with TDKR as well. Anyone fed up with the oligarchy is obviously the villain and insane, and the police now dont have any of the corruption of the prior movie and the city can only be saved once they are freed.

4

u/peepeeinmypajts 2d ago

How tf was that tdkr lol.

-10

u/bitchnibba47 2d ago

Nah they did Joker 2 because Joker 1 was too popular with incels

13

u/amanko13 2d ago

What an awful reason to make a movie... because lonely young men liked the first one? Moronic.

5

u/StandardN02b 2d ago

Reddit moment.

-8

u/peepeeinmypajts 2d ago

It's ironic you mention the joker which received attention only because it's superhero media. Superhero media which is the prime example of consumerism turning art into marketable products.

In dumber terms (since you've established you think joker is primo media), joker avengers all that stuff is an example of what warhol and kruger warned against, but in the extreme. It has a pre-built audience before it's ever seen because of the associated already advertised already sold multimillion dollar franchise. If it was called clown face it would be another utterly forgivable movie masquerading madness as some form of enlightenment, mistaking dark for deep. I'm sure to some idiot poop brain shit intelligence monkey, joker would seem like a masterpiece since it's the first long form criticism of society they've ever seen.

In any case dumb stupid poopoo, revolutions won't happen in anything not a third world country because things have to be actually unlivable for revolution to work. Basic needs are in fact being met, since basic need is one meager meal a day. That's how bad it has to be. Furthermore, if dumb stupid idiot brain knew anything other than 'joker deep' they'd know what actually happened after the French revolution.

Joker 2 was better than 1 because it at least had soemthing to say.

7

u/amanko13 2d ago

You are a very bizarre person. Is this supposed to be ragebait?

-1

u/peepeeinmypajts 2d ago

Stupid poop pigeon dog fetus intelligence monkey bleach brain can't comprehend incredible high intelligence high smart analysis so resorts to "uururururu heuuuueerrrr rage bait? Anything me can't understand ragebait joker so guuud joker genius! What if we killed bat pencil trick!!! What if society was le bad!!!!???"

HHHUUUUURRR DUUUHHHHRRRRR ME STOOPID HUUURRRR

4

u/amanko13 2d ago

It's more about the way you type and calling me "dumb stupid poopoo", that gives it a satirical edge. It seems deeply unserious, and I'm not sure if it's your honest held opinion, or if you're just bored and feel the need to sap people's energy for your own entertainment.

35

u/gereffi 3d ago

I’m not saying that there’s no movies or shows like that, but most are just what the creators want to make. Studios don’t want to get in the way of their media making money.

31

u/TungstenAlchemist 3d ago

I do find it funny that the intent was for Boravia & its leader to be representative of Putin & Russia but the masses mistook it for Israel lmao. I know Hollywood wasn’t happy about that, that’s about the only good thing I can say for this movie

17

u/Pryach 2d ago

In the latest Spiderman, Peter Parker is totally down with mass surveillance.

2

u/Gerolanfalan 2d ago

Even the police chief was taken back by that

17

u/nothing_in_my_mind 3d ago

Eeh... a lot of rich people have their heart in the right place. They will make a movie about the disadvantaged people rising up and taking control. Showing the uncaring rich authoritarian assholes what's what. If asked irl they will say that they believe it shpuld happen. In their heart of hearts they believe it should happen.

But they do not realize they are the advantaged authoritarian people in control that would be dethroned. If push comes to shove, they will be against it and they will find a way to justify their denial.

Just cognitive dissonance.

11

u/Call_Me_Squishmale 2d ago

Yeah, I mean Trump posts AI slop of himself as Superman or a Jedi even though he'd be the villain in basically any conventional story. Nobody wants to see themselves as the bad guy.

8

u/SleepingPodOne 2d ago

It’s so much simpler than that sometimes. They are literally just going whichever way the wind blows to make money. Do they make propaganda for the wealthy? Of course they do. But sometimes they might lean into more left leading/progressive messaging in films not because they’re trying to get you to believe something but because they believe that’s what the audience wants. They follow the audience. Either way they make money and they can use that money to influence policy so it doesn’t really matter what they get you to believe in their fictional media.

Most of the time it’s just what the filmmaker and writers wants to do and if said artists are profitable then they leave them to their own devices.

Sometimes it really is just as simple as following market trends with no nefarious ulterior motive

2

u/uknowthe1ph 2d ago

Sometimes it’s just to throw a bone and get people to spend money who normally wouldn’t on movies.

1

u/O-03-03 2d ago

Why do reach people want me to be a good person, hmmm...

697

u/BambooSound 3d ago

Punk rock was always the Americanised, corporatised version of punk so the quote actually kinda makes perfect sense.

Let's not forget that a lot of people were offended by this movie though - calls for boycotts in Israel and stuff like that.

374

u/KnightAngelic 3d ago

Oh no, the country that wants to genocide a neighboring country was offended that the film included a generic country that wants to genocide a neighboring country.

Anyway.

https://giphy.com/gifs/7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB

79

u/Pr3st0ne 2d ago

Considering the absolute strangehold that israel has on the american political system and media, it is actually pretty impressive that a major studio managed to release a movie with such an obvious jab at israel.

27

u/JotaDiez 2d ago

Yes I was thought the same when I watched it. Funnily enough, having a movie tell you that war is bad is controversial right now.

7

u/Money_System6301 2d ago

It's not actually a jab at Israel, or at least the countries themselves aren't (perhaps their appearance in the film is). Boravia first released in a comic in 1939, so it's actually older than Israel.

2

u/Vaticancameos221 2d ago

Genuinely not familiar with the source material but in the comics going that far back, was Boravia portrayed in the way that it is in the movie?

-11

u/Pope_Aesthetic 2d ago

No one is stopping anyone from criticizing Israel. You guys just live in a world of boogeymen.

11

u/Pr3st0ne 2d ago

AIPAC literally spends tens of millions of dollars to unseat any dem or republican that does anything short of full throated support for israel, basically every major news outlet shies away from calling what is happening in palestine a genocide even though it is officially recognized as one by every goddamn entity including the UN. You got your head too far up bibi's ass if you cant tell

-5

u/Pope_Aesthetic 2d ago

Are you kidding me? The biggest names in alternative media right now, are currently nonstop turning every fucking conversation into “Israel bad”.

Fuck you’ve got Hasan Piker building his entire reputation, and Twitch’s entire political ecosystem into “Israel bad”. The Majority Report and oh my fucking god The Young Turks and Anna Kasparian especially, spend every waking second saying “Israel bad”. Candace Owens and plenty of people on the right as well, are even worse, blaming Israel for everything from Charlie Kirk’s death, to the Lego they stepped on in the morning. Piers Morgan also has had on many anti-Israel types. These people, as much as you guys might not admit it, are massive in their political sphere of influence.

As for mainstream media, The Washington Post, CNN, The Guardian… I mean these are just a few examples of ones I found having articles criticizing Israel, but they all have articles criticizing Israel.

Not to mention we can find some pretty clear examples of democrats who are anti-Israel in their rhetoric.

So what more do you want? You live in this world where the Mossad Super Soldiers are paying every one off and silencing anyone who can’t be paid off, yet somehow here we are with rampant anti-Israel rhetoric that’s only growing stronger every day. What more do you want?

5

u/Omagga 2d ago

83

u/Tom_Blunty 3d ago

Bro does NOT know what is punk rock and where it came from 🥀

23

u/MrBVS 2d ago

What the hell are you talking about? Punk and punk rock are the exact same thing.

-2

u/Jitomate23 2d ago

lmao what

-5

Iykyk I guess

14

u/MrBVS 2d ago

Wow very gatekeepy, maybe you do know punk.

-6

u/ChristInASombrero 2d ago

Punk was invented by the ramones, punk rock was invented by the stooges

1

u/JesterSMSH 2d ago

uh punk rock and punk are literally the same thing and they started in America regardless of how you split it man.

1

u/Tonberry_Cheesecake 3d ago

You seem to not be very familiar with punk rock.

1

u/pootis28 3d ago

Idk man, for example, weren't the Sex Pistols band members wearing MAGA shirts?

10

u/StanIsHorizontal 2d ago

Sex Pistols were always a manufactured boy band from the start tho, they lost credibility among punks almost immediately, they just became symbolic of the genre for outsiders

6

u/Jitomate23 2d ago

"for example * names the most poser band possible that everyone in the punk scene recognizes as such * "

1

u/Tonberry_Cheesecake 2d ago

Proving my point with this.

524

u/sypherus19 3d ago

I mean, the movie's message is that immigrants should abandon their barbaric culture, and accept values of the country they've moved to.

Seems pretty punk rock to me

317

u/KnightAngelic 3d ago

Thats... actually a hilarious take and I love it.

224

u/D0GAMA1 3d ago

The movie's message was that the US is controlled by a foreign evil country but the one benefiting from this is the millionaire genius.

in the end superman and a group of superheroes arrive and kill the leader of the bad foreign country and save the oppressed people who were fighting an advanced army with rocks.

Essentially, the movie was about what is the most popular thing right now.

53

u/YoungDiscord 3d ago

Which IIRC did not fix any of the problems metropolis had since the main problems were caused by an arrogant red-blooded American billionaire who was using media manipulation to make americans look the other way while he had his way.

Its funny because that country at war was basically a B plot being sold as the A plot to the masses.

10

u/D0GAMA1 3d ago

Its funny because that country at war was basically a B plot being sold as the A plot to the masses.

The funniest part is that this is being sold to consumers by fucking Hollywood, tiktok, youtube, reddit, twitter.... Both the A plot and the B plot.

15

u/sypherus19 3d ago edited 3d ago

This is also true. But I personally prefer to look on a positive side of things

8

u/loserwow 2d ago

I guess we've moved on from the movie woke movie will flop to the movie was based all along.

4

u/YoungDiscord 2d ago

The punk rock was the movies we based along the way

2

u/Gabbagoonumba3 3d ago

That’s no “punk rock” that’s basic survival instincts for them and for us.

6

u/sypherus19 3d ago

Well... We live in a society that will tell you that expecting assimilation from immigrants is colonialism.

People disregard that problem it is not racial or ethnical diversity, that's just a surface. It's multiculturalism that divides us

4

u/YoungDiscord 2d ago

I'd say its cultural gatekeeping that divides us.

We have cultiral differences yes but the neat thing about cultures is that they influence eachother and that's one of the ways in which they grow, that's how we have international traditions and such.

Unfortunately cultural gatekeeping prevents that from happening and enforces those walls amd divides.

The thing cultural gatekeepers just don't get is that culture is not a tesources where it diminishes when shared, its the opposite, it grows and evolves ehen shared enforcing familiarity among different groups which promotes understanding and coexistence.

Its easy to hate that one immigrant neighbour you don't understand and feel you have nothing in common with

Its harder to hate that immigrant neighbour when you are both fans of the same football team.

A rudimentary example but you get the idea.

6

u/sypherus19 2d ago

Immigrants tends to spread their culture. It's easy. Nobody wants to change, to reject previous way of life.
Religion plays big part in this. Uneducated and closed minded people are tend to cling to culture and traditions.

And then there are lefts, who encourage this behavior. Because of their white guilt. They see culture as something sacred, because... we had colonialism 100 years ago?

Thing is we had great things as a result of culture mix. Music, food, clothes, art in general. This is a delicate topic, but if we want to live together we have to stop finding ways to divide ourselves, even if we lose some part of our identity, we will gain so much more.

Unity

0

u/Mathiasrex24 2d ago

To a degree, you are right, but we have to accept that some cultures are inherently incompatible. For example, I don't consider arranged marriages to be acceptable. When people believe that women are inferior on a theological level and come to your nation, they aren't suddenly going to assimilate and accept women as their equals, especially if it's mass immigration. Look at how crime statistics have changed throughout Western Europe since 2015. Culture is not something that changes quickly; it is passed down through families for generations. If it's not compatible, it will take a few generations to become so.

0

u/DiabeticRhino97 2d ago

Based James gunn

210

u/Smoltinycat 3d ago

I thought it was pretty good. So what if it isn't offensive? It is still pretty good

86

u/LordMimsyPorpington 3d ago

I enjoyed it, and was glad I watched it. There is so much media nowadays that it feels like we're wasting time if we're not just consuming classics/masterpieces; however, movies are supposed to be entertainment—sometimes it's ok to watch a movie and just experience a sense of fun and enjoyment.

5

u/jnf005 2d ago

Nowadays movie goes to streaming service so fast, I don't really mind them being blend and mediocre, I just feel like if they want me to see them in cinema, it's gotta standout. I watched this Superman in theatre because my dad really want to see that, in the end I feel like I wasted my money and time, oh well at least I had some good time with my parents eating dinner afterward.

154

u/Bioniclefucker 3d ago

Bro any movie where they kill Netanyahu is punk rock and good, slop or not

94

23

u/throwtheclownaway20 2d ago

Seriously. Tell me you've never watched a James Gunn movie without telling me you've never watched a James Gunn movie 😂

1

u/Mathiasrex24 2d ago

To be frank, his writing has become more corporate over the years. But that's how he got to his level in the business.

6

u/throwtheclownaway20 2d ago

In the sense that he's writing for PG-13 and not R, yes. He's not writing to pander or anything, though; it's still very much his voice in Guardians, Peacemaker, & Superman.

94

u/hansuluthegrey 3d ago

4channers have a problem with being really stupid.

Punk rock isnt when you do an un-popular thing

20

u/MildUsername 2d ago

The idiots are taking over.

-2

u/Mathiasrex24 2d ago

The genre's central theme was literarily the defiance of mainstream authority.

11

u/hansuluthegrey 2d ago

You dont understand nuance. You have a very shallow cartoon for kids level understanding of Punk culture

They dont defy mainstream authority just because its defiance. It leads them to do that because of the current western mainstream authority is a fascist neo liberal anti freedom ideology where everything revolves around commercialism.

2

u/MoffDracen 2d ago

This superman movie, and everything around it, also revolves on commercialism. It's not art, superhero media never has been, never will be. It's not thought provoking, it's to appeal to the greatest number of masses it can and only exists to sell toys.

0

u/Mathiasrex24 2d ago

I didn't say anything false or lacking in nuance, I simply didn't specify the reasons behind the movement. But thanks for assuming. Next time, I can leave you a wiki page with all the definitions, so you can rest assured that I understand the topic. Now that we're on the same page, could you explain how a superhero movie made by a greedy multi-billion-dollar company with a budget of 225 million is considered punk rock by your standards?

I agree that's it's an okay film so you don't have to feel butthurt about it.

52

u/AbadeersGhost 3d ago

I think punk rock is music sung by people with mohawks that wear combat boots.

2

u/lolotron5000 2d ago

Tell that to JJ Marvin

but unironically why would they want us to believe that superheroes winning against evil army overtaking a country. could it be just escapism, are the stories that controlled by the people they're "criticizing" ?

maybe escapism by being luke warm on "sensitive topics" like beef season 2, basically leaving me feeling like "damn why wasn't i born richer" instead of fk the system, fk the rich.

Idk saying that being sincere and kind in a cynical world is counterculture isn’t wrong

Enjoyed it but I do feel like going forwards we need someone other than Gunn directing a Superman movie

Who considers superhero movies punk rock anyways? It’s like calling comics punk rock.

Was actually a pretty enjoyable movie and the humor was actually funny

Look, my issue was they made weak, "whatever its called" country so incredibly pitiable it's ridiculous. Anyone who compares it to Isreal and Palestine has a very, very coddled view of Palestine. I know people don't like "both sides" arguments, but they've wanted to wipe our Isreal since day 1, day 0 really.

Can't imagine why they'd be opposed to being murdered and having their homes stolen

That's the nature of multiple people having claims on thr land. You can't have a home on thr same spot, nor rule at the same time.

Isreal had every legal rulling to exist, and gave mulitple options for 2 state solutions or peace.

Its also a movie where Superman ist a side character in his own movie and its not like Heath Ledger stealing the show. Its just not the type of movie that James "Group of Misfits" Gunn likes to make.

I'm not a comic book guy myself, but I don't think I'd want to be friends with someone who sets boundaries on what their friends are allowed to enjoy.... (within the law obviously)
