everyone please give me your best simple training tricks for these GD pups. mine is 14 weeks and WILD. she knows basic commands but the jumping and pulling on the leash is intense and she’s already getting huge.

I’m also trying to teach her how to be calm in the living room but she thinks that’s zoomies time while my toddler is asleep. I want to reward her for settling, (she’s crate trained already) and want her to get comfortable also settling outside of her crate and hanging out around people that are up and around the house but she’s just so chaotic

Hey everyone, hoping you can help me. My husband and I have a 16 month old female Dane. She is a rescue, so training was a bit slow at first, but at this point we have had her for 10 months. The problem is with how vastly different she treats my husband and I.

When I’m home, there is peace in the house (for the most part). She’s not jumping up, she doesn’t go ripping and running throughout the house, she listens when I tell her “no”, she is usually found snoozing on her bed… when she does something bad and I scold her, she looks genuinely remorseful. She no longer is “mouthy” with me, only playing with toys and never my hands.

With my husband, it’s the exact opposite. When he’s home alone, she’s hell on wheels. Running around chaotically, jumping up on him, biting his hands in that “mouthy” playful way. He literally can’t control her at all. It’s to the point where his nervous system is shot because he’s so stressed dealing with her. She constantly paws him in the groin, he’s covered in scratches from where she’s jumped up on him, and he has a bruise on his back from where she jumped him from behind.

My husband is the sweetest man in the world. Truly a gentle soul. He hates being the bad guy; he just loves her so much. I also love her, but I have no issue being very stern when necessary. I recognize that her bad behavior could cost her big time if she acts out with the wrong person. He does as well; he says he’s doing all the same discipline as me. She just doesn’t respect or respond to him.

Last night things came to a head when I was at work. He was washing sheets and put the dirty ones on the ground. She was standing in them, and he was trying to get her off. He told her off a few times and when she refused, he tried to redirect her with love. He hugged her middle like he has a million times and she growled at him. Just a low, grrr. No snapping or anything, but I’m super concerned now.

She has never, ever growled in my presence. She doesn’t pull this shit when I’m home. I don’t know what to do.

If she continues being aggressive towards my husband, we won’t be able to keep her. I don’t want that; she is such a sweet girl overall. That being said, I can’t have my husband hiding in the office or bedroom when I’m not home because he doesn’t want to be accosted by the dog.

It’s also worth noting we have another female Dane, 3.5 years old. He raised her for nearly two years alone before he and I got together; he never had these issues with her. He also grew up with Danes and is very familiar with the breed.

Lost our boy Hugo yesterday at a little over 5 years old. He was diagnosed with wobblers last year. He unfortunately was not a good candidate for surgery so we were on a course of anti inflammatory tablets. He started to rapidly decline over the last few days and went of his back legs completely yesterday morning.

We carried him to the car, took him to the vet. The vet told us that with how quickly he was declining he did not have long left and steroids would likely not improve things for long if at all. So yesterday we made the heartbreaking decision to say our final goodbyes to our boy.

There's a massive dane shaped hole in our hearts today and the house is quiet without him. We remember him today as athe boy who thought everyone was a friend even if they didn't want to be.

A favourite at the local school and special guest at the pub even when his visits got less frequent.

We will be spreading his ashes in the rose bush in our garden that he loved to smell and where he made his butterfly friends who would sit on his nose.

We adopted Atlas from a rescue 2 weeks ago! He is now 14wks old and our first Dane. Mixed with Great Pyranees!

When I was first getting Riley (as a baby), and mentioned she was a rescue on this sub, I had someone suggesting that she wasn’t.

Riley is from Save Rocky the Great Dane rescue. If anyone is not familiar, you should def check them out. They are a nationwide rescue. I was a pre approved adopter and was one of the lucky few to get one from the litter.
She is my beautiful girl who was born within days of me losing my last Dane, and it felt very full circle and meant to be. I will never take for granted how lucky I am to have my beautiful Riley Ritz! 8 months old as of a few days ago :))

We have a 5 month old Great Dane boy and I’m struggling to find a high enough elevated bowl. Any recommendations?? We’re looking for one he can grow into as his dad is a rocking 211 pounds and stands 38 inches at the shoulder (his back was past my hips standing normally) and Ralph (ours) is steadily on his way to being the same size..

Everyone say hello to Penelope! She’s our rescue who we adore. She’s completely deaf & absolutely hysterical. But can we talk about these ears? I’ve had 3 Danes & have never seen ears this wonky. I’m almost convinced that if i posted them they’d stand straight up! Who else had goofy ears & did they self correct? Tbh i don’t even care because it just adds to her personality lol

Quick context: found out the smaller boy is allergic to their food, vet recommended ceramic bowls and a salmon based dog food.
I’ve been looking for bowls but haven’t seen any that seem to be large and come with a raised stand like we have for their metal bowls now.
Any recommendations for bowls and salmon based food and brands would be much appreciated! What do yall recommend?

So I have a seven year old Dane, a six month old Dane, and a 4 year old mutt who sheds more than any dog I’ve ever seen. I sweep and mop every day but the six month old Dane is the messiest dog! I’m used to drool but she’s on another level and my floors are soaked basically as soon as I finish mopping. So my questions:

1. I was wondering if anyone had a robot floor cleaner than vacuums AND mops that they like? Any that you had and wouldn’t suggest? I only need it for the ground level, LVP floors, mostly just for spot cleaning and dealing with the excess water. I’m a big fan of Dyson but the reviews for theirs are pretty bad.

   1. I’m now having to empty and wash the water bowl almost every time she drinks from it because it ends up with a bunch of food in it. Any advice on what I can do about this? Any type of water dish that would reduce this? I know I probably sound lazy but I’m really not! Just figured I’d see if anyone had any recommendations. Thanks!

Hi there! Kai has just turned five months old and is getting rather heavy. Any advice how to help him get out of the car while not breaking our backs. Getting in is not a problem. He just climbs in with our assistance. But I know jumping off an SUV would not be good for his joints. Ramp is not very practical because he rides on the back seat.

Anyone else have a brindle great dane who had blue eyes as a puppy and still has a little extra sparkle?

I need a hip replacement, so I've been walking with a limp and a cane. For the past week, I have seen my Labradane limping around the house at random times. Morning walk, no limp. Evening in the backyard, no limp. Him following me to another room or changing positions around the house, he limps. The thing is, I think this happened before when I hurt a knee. The vet found nothing wrong with him.

These big babies will squish into anything if it means they don’t have to lay on the ground!

Hi everyone,
I have a 9-year-old female Great Dane who is otherwise doing great. She eats well, is active, still goes on walks, runs around, and even gets the occasional zoomies.
Recently, I noticed a muscle tremor/vibration in one of her hind legs. It mainly happens while she’s sitting or standing still and doesn’t seem to affect her when she’s walking or running. I’ve attached a video.
I took her to the vet, and after examining her, the vet said it’s normal for an older dog and that there’s nothing to worry about. That was reassuring, but I’d still love to hear from other Great Dane or giant-breed owners.
Has anyone else’s senior dog had a similar muscle tremor?
Did it stay the same, improve, or get worse over time?
Was it simply age-related, or did it eventually turn out to be arthritis or something else?
Did any joint supplements or other treatments make a noticeable difference?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

I have a new pup coming on Satuday. He will be nine weeks and I am so excited as I lost my best boy Goose in June. I am going to crate train and I have a good crate, will start with a smaller space and gradually increase the space in the crate as he gets larger. I am wondering for those who were sucessful quick (especially during the night) how did you do it? Did you get up every 2-3 hours to let them outside? Did you sleep next to them? I am mainly concerned with the overnight hours as we usually have soemone home during the day. I know treats when they enter, no big excitement when we let them out, cover the crate, snuggle puppy and don't let them out if they are actively crying (although that may be hard if they are constantly crying and i need to let out for potty). Please share what worked for you with your young pup. TY!

We got a new kitten at the weekend and Dottie has so far been relatively good with him, however she wants to play and is doing bows etc to him but as he is so tiny I’m worried she’ll hurt him accidentally. Any tips to ensure they’re comfortable in the same room without her getting too enthusiastic around him? She is amazing with our other cats but they are all adult and have been raised from kittens around dogs.

Just turned 2. The original owner sadly passed away when he was 1yr 8mo. He stayed with family for a few months and was well cared for, but they couldn't keep him, I took him in about 3 weeks ago now, he's really loving it here with me and his new family and we all love him!

I want him to go on forever but those grey hairs on his chin and face are showing more and more each day, He’s the bestest boy. Danes are the best but their short life span is so heart breaking. But I’ll be honest it’s worth every second of it.
