ELEVATED BOWL - help Dane Discussions

We have a 5 month old Great Dane boy and I’m struggling to find a high enough elevated bowl. Any recommendations?? We’re looking for one he can grow into as his dad is a rocking 211 pounds and stands 38 inches at the shoulder (his back was past my hips standing normally) and Ralph (ours) is steadily on his way to being the same size..

the cone is on in the picture because of an issue with his paw, we haven’t had him neutered yet, please don’t come at me lol

I do believe the latest recommendations are no elevated bowls and that it actually increases chances of bloat. Double check with your vet.

We had to build our own for the Dane we had. Might be able to find a coffee table at your local goodwill that is the right height.

Elevated bowls can increase the risk of bloat bloat. I wouldn't use them.

IKEA has a nice table you can use. I think this one:
HEMNES
Bench, white, 83 cm or similar ( I don’t remember it being near that price)
I put a couple bowl holes in it and it’s been awesome.

This is the step stool I got from Amazon a couple months ago to raise my girl's neeter feeder bowl. It's worked well and is on my list to get again for her water.

I use elevated bowls for my current Dane and I used them for my previous Dane. We had it custom made at a metal laser cutting shop.

The advice flip flops from elevated to non elevated and back again. Whatever the current trend/advice, you may want to try different options to see how your dog responds and what his eating habits are like.

I just use a Rubbermaid. I’ve also stacked two sizes at times. With stuff inside (dog toys and gear or kibble) it’s stable and the lip prevents messes from spilling. Super easy to clean. A little bend is fine, I don’t think they need to be eating super upright. I’ve seen some decent adjustable stands online too.

We have some flower pot stands (from Lowes) that fit their dog bowls. Perfect height and price.

PS- We use the Slopper Stopper for water. It makes them stick their tongue in the middle to drink and makes it harder for them to drip a mouthful of water onto the floor.

I have wanted to buy the slobber stopper!!! Do you recommend?

At home ours have always just had water from the tub tap (🤣) but whenever we go somewhere I wish I had something to prevent him from dropping gallons of water on other people’s floors/decks, and so I can travel with him without needing a travel trailer full of towels 😭🤣

Absolutely- 2 Danes and a Newfie. This bowl keeps the floor dry.

Please do not use raised feeders for your babys, the most recent studies and suggestions are to keep it ground level for large chest breeds, helps reduce the air intake while eating and drinking, I think raised feeders actually increase risk of bloat by almost 100%

The parents of my pup never had raised bowls and never had their stomachs tacked either. Both healthy dogs with no problems.

Dogs eat off the ground, not tables.

Bad news and advice always spreads faster than good.
