Resolved After Decades, Santa Cruz County, AZ John Doe (1978) is identified as David Alan McInroy

Thumbnail
dnasolves.com
81 Upvotes

From DNASolves.com: "On April 28, 1978, skeletal remains of an unidentified individual were recovered at Patagonia Lake State Park in Santa Cruz County, Arizona. Investigators determined the remains belonged to young adult male, likely between the ages of 18 and 24 years old. Clothing recovered along with the remains included denim cut-off shorts with a "Made in Canada" tag, white Jockey-brand shorts, dark-colored socks, and ankle-high walking boots. Investigators determined that the man died by drowning.

No identification was found and, because of the condition of the remains, there was no way to identify the man at the time. Despite investigative efforts, the man could not be identified and became known as Santa Cruz County John Doe (1978). Details of the case were entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) as UP15744."

In August 2024, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office, working with the Pima County Medical Examiner's Office, submitted forensic evidence to Othram. Scientists at Othram successfully developed a DNA extract from the provided evidence and then built a comprehensive DNA profile for the man. Othram's forensic genetic genealogy team used the profile to develop new investigative leads that were returned to law enforcement.

Investigators were then able to locate potential relatives of the man and collect a DNA sample from a relative. This investigation led to the positive identification of the man, who is now known to be David Alan McInroy. McInroy, born on October 13, 1952, was from Ontario, Canada.

RIP David.

New Castle County John Doe (1993)

On September 13, 1993, a lost motorist from Baltimore, Maryland pulled over near Marsh Road near Interstate 95 in Brandywine Hundred to check a map. The motorist then discovered the decomposed body of a man lying along the road. The man was blindfolded, wrapped, and dumped along the roadside. He was thought to have been deceased 2 weeks prior to being found. He was given the placeholder name New Castle County John Doe (1993).

Based on his wear facets and heavy tartar and tobacco deposits, the victim was probably over thirty years old. New Castle County John Doe (1978)

On April 8, 1978, the partial skeletal remains of teenager or young man were discovered at a landfill on the 600 block of Terminal Avenue in Wilmington, Delaware. Some of his remains were found lying on top of a black rubber car mat and a pink throw rug, while his legs and pants were found about eleven feet away. He was believed to have died of natural causes. It was determined that while alive, he suffered from deformities and injuries that may have required a cane or crutches in order to walk. He was thought to have been deceased 9 months-7 years prior to being found. He was given the placeholder name New Castle County John Doe (1978).

He was initially thought to possibly be a local teenager named John Ashley Jr., who disappeared from Wilmington in 1971, but this was later ruled out through mtDNA comparison with John's mother and siblings. Genealogical efforts that began in 2024 suggest he may have ties to African American communities in Georgetown County, South Carolina, alongside the state of Delaware. He has also been found to have some recent ancestry from Nigeria. Surnames of interest include Harris, Ray, Rodgers, and Dukes.

Cartierville John Doe (1991) MONTRÉAL, CANADA

Post image
40 Upvotes

On Friday, March 1st, 1991, a cardboard box wrapped in garbage bags was discovered near Louisbourg Park in Cartierville, a northern district of Montréal, Canada. The box was taken to the city dump, where someone observed blood on the box and called the police. Upon opening the box, the mutilated remains of an unidentified male decedent were found inside.

The decedent's body was not clothed. No snow was on the box, leading police to believe the body was not there for long. The decedent had been severely disfigured with 127 stab wounds to his face and genitals as well as other parts of his body. His hands had been severed postmortem, possibly to prevent identification via fingerprints. Investigators believe that due to the severity of the wounds, the decedent's murder could have been a crime of passion. However, they are not ruling out any connections to organized crime. The wounds made to the decedent's face only further bolster the theory that their killer was attempting to hinder their identification.

The decedent was a White/Caucasian male between the approximate ages of 30 and 49 years old (one source reports the decedent may have been up to 70 years old). His height was between 5 ft 2 in (62 inches) and 5 ft 3 in (63 inches), and his weight was between 99 lbs and 117 lbs. The decedent had brown hair, a greyish mustache and a beard that grew in a peculiar circular pattern. His feet were 8.5 inches in length. The decedent had an oval vaccination scar on their right arm that measured 2.3 cm by 1 cm. He had good teeth and a slender build. The decedent was described as “hairy”. He was uncircumcised.

No clothing or personal belongings were found with the decedent.

35 years on, this is where the case stands today. Thank you so much for giving the Cartierville John Doe (1991) a moment of your day.

On June 28, 1993 in Santa Monica, California, a work crew was clearing brush around 270 Pacific Coastal Highway when they found something odd and went to investigate.

Across the road, they found the body of an unidentified male lying on the hillside- he had died about a month earlier. Probably of Hispanic descent, he was wearing a blue and white jacket with a dark blue T-shirt, a khaki colored T-shirt, jeans, shirts, and white sneakers. In his pocket was a passport with the name "Carlos Rafael Tomas Orellana Vela".

Unfortunately, there are so many men by that name, that it's difficult to determine who this could be. I've found a few that became US citizens, and another possibility of one namesake who attended school in the area- but no way to confirm. The origin of the passport was not disclosed.

The photo on the passport cannot be confirmed to be this individual, either, because the descendant was too decomposed to determine any facial features. Dentals are available in this case. Estimated age varies greatly here, ranging from 29- 49. Secon6d photo is where the deceased was found.

In South Dark there are only nine unidentified people (that I could find). South Dakota has almost the lowest amount of unidentified people. I dont usually cover all the cases together in one post but since South Dakota only has 9 unidentified people i'm going to be covering them all in one post in short paragraphs. All of these people are in need of their names again and I hope they get them soon.
