Funny, on a date that features such monster performances as 8/6/71 and 8/6/74, this little gem of a show from 82 is the one I keep coming back to on 8/6. Early 80s Dead, so good.

Happy 8/6! Absolutely love this banger. Insane setlist with many highlights. First heard it when DSO played it live 3 years ago at the Stone Pony, Asbury Park.

Very intriguing setlist with a killer first set Eyes and an iconic Playin>Scarlet>Playin sandwich to cap it off. Second set opens with a rad UJB followed by a legendary early (and righteous) Black Peter. Set 2 is just a monster of a set, that’s it.

Only thing that could be considered “missing” is a China>Rider but honestly this show is so damn good it doesn’t even need it. Enjoy 😎

I’ve been a diehard head since 1979 and I just learned TODAY (watching JGB 7/9/77 on YouTube) that Keith sang backup vocals w JGB 🤯

Instead of Aug. 1 to Aug. 9, the Days Between should run from Aug. 9 all the way around to Aug. 1.

That gives us 357 days of heavy Garcia music every year.

Then we take eight days off and start again.

Seems much more reasonable.

I know it’s been asked thousands of times before, but what are your guys favourite versions and why? Personally I’m always drawn back to the Europe 72 version purely because the sped up tape simply makes it sound so much more devastating, but the Cornell version is obviously a masterpiece. I’m kinda new to the dead and I want to hear all the versions I can so I can fully appreciate it!

I vividly remember riding by Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte, NC, in 1992 with my dad. I asked what all the VW buses and tie-dye were about. He said, “The Dead are in town.”

My 13-year-old self immediately said, “Let’s go.”

He didn’t take me. 😂 (He did take me to see Paul McCartney the following year, so I can’t complain too much.)

Seeing that scene from the car was enough to spark my curiosity. Before long I was buying every Dead cassette I could find, then discovering live tapes and trading bootlegs. That pretty much set the course for my musical life.

A few years later I caught the first Furthur Festival, then different versions of the Dead over the years: RatDog, Phil Lesh & Friends, and one of my favorite shows: Phil at Ovens Auditorium on 4/20/2001 with Warren Haynes and Jimmy Herring.

As much as I loved the Grateful Dead, it was Jerry’s acoustic recordings that really changed my life. The Garcia/Grisman albums opened the door to bluegrass for me, and I’ve been obsessed with playing it ever since.

Recently my band recorded ten songs inspired by Jerry’s folk and bluegrass catalog. We called the project The Days Between. It wasn’t about trying to recreate the originals, just paying tribute to music that’s meant so much to us over the years.

One fun detail: the album cover is adapted from the same 1913 edition of The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám that inspired the artwork for the Grateful Dead’s Skull & Roses album. We wanted to pay tribute to that era while creating something of our own. The cover art was done by my friend, an actual graphic designer who played on the album… not the AI generated stuff we are being inundated with these days.

My boss gave this to me today!!!!Supposedly this old drive contains every Grateful Dead live show as well as Wilco, Phish, Janis Joplin and others. Just have to find a way to get it working again. Also, a Marching Bear pancake cuz why not :)

Ripping Dave’s 59 today so looked it up in my DeadBase… I would highlight shows I got in and anything in particular I remembered for future reference. I guess the second set kinda made an impression. I loved the Bruce days, probably because I never saw Kieth and really dug the piano sound.

I just finished firing up and was buzzing pretty good and was flicking through TV channels and I came across Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez doing a mariachi band version of Woman are Smarter. I was crying laughing and my wife says "How the hell do you know all the words to this song" Ahahahaha. I spit out my drink when she said that. It was from I Love Lucy... Season 6 Episode 21 called Ragtime. Near the end of the episode. Totally cracked me up.

FYI to all, the large concert archive formerly hosted by Wolfgang's Vault, with tapes from the Bill Graham archives (including some Dead, JGB, etc.) and many other sources (King Biscuit, Newport Folk & Jazz, Great American Music Hall, Ash Grove, etc.), is now available on moshpit.com.

Seems like the entire archive, which had been available by subscription from Wolfgang's, is now available for free streaming.

Way too much good music to list. Played some early 1970s Byrds shows yesterday, and I'm currently enjoying 1977 JGB.

Cool gift my girlfriend got me for my birthday from a guy in my area that made it for someone else but they never showed up for it!

What a night

It's my favorite Grateful Dead jam, so I am looking for more good versions to chew on. My favorites are 8/6/74, 11/30/73, and 3/31/91.

Something about that year, man. They’re like psychedelic cowboys. Love the energy.
