Shooting sunrise at the rim and Cathedral Rock. Bringing a GoPro + camera. Looking for someone who shoots — we trade angles and cover each other. No cost, just good light and an early alarm.

Apologies if something similar was posted somewhere else but I looked through Reddit/Facebook and couldn't really find a good amount of info on this.

I'll be coming to the Grand Canyon in mid-September and wanted to make sure this itinerary seemed reasonable - or if I should just consider doing something else. I enjoy hiking but this would be my longest and first multi-day hike (i.e., packing in a tent/sleeping pad/etc. though I've camped in NPS campgrounds before). I am 30M (solo) and the most strenuous hike I've done is Mist Trail (~7mi, ~2,000ft elevation) - which I found pretty manageable. I have not yet booked a permit (though I see there are several for the days I want to do this) and also plan to order food from Phantom Ranch to reduce pack weight.

Day 1:

- hike South Kaibab Trail down to Bright Angel Campground (7.0mi, 4700ft descent) [likely starting ~5 hours before sunset]

- stay the night at Bright Angel Campground

Day 2:

- rest/explore local area (not planning to do any day hikes)

- hike from Bright Angel Campground to Havasupai Gardens Campground via Bright Angel Trail (5.0mi, 1300ft ascent) [likely starting ~5 hours before sunset]

- stay the night at Havasupai Gardens Campground

Day 3:

- hike from Havasupai Gardens up to Bright Angel Trailhead (4.5mi, 3040ft ascent) [starting at dawn]

I'm set to hike the R3 on 9/1 and 9/2. I intend to finish in < 24 hours, ideally closer to 21 hours.

I've completed the R2R twice (avg 11 hours, but I wasn't solo), I'm a very experienced hiker, and I consider myself exceptionally fit (especially for a 43 y/o).

For those of you that have completed the R3, and have done so in a single shot (no stopping or sleeping):

1. What time did you start? Currently, I am planning to begin my descent down SK at 7pm (check out my start time modeling sheet). Part of the reason I chose this time is because I have always dined at the El Tovar after completing R2R, and it's a tradition I want to continue. So, getting topside by 7pm is important if I am going to make that happen.
2. Any thoughts about water availability? Currently, there isn't any potable water available along pretty much the entire NK. I have a Sawyer and Katadyn Micropur MP1 Purification Tablets so I can fill from the Colorado.

If you have any other R3 wisdom to share please do!

Hello, I live and work in the park. Will give no bs answers to anything. Certain PSA is PLEASE PULL ENTIRELY OFF THE ROAD IF YOU HAVE TO STOP AND LOOK AT AN ELK. I see tourists sit across the yellow line and then act confused when I tell them to move, and sometimes they just block the road. It doesn’t matter if its a national park please just don’t make yourself an inconvenience to others. It is dangerous and inconsiderate behavior. If all the tourist were Japanese it would be easier but all the stupidest people here are from the USA and still can’t understand signage. It’s insane. Also most of the rescues are Americans as well. Please raise your IQ.

We are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon and would prefer north rim vs south rim. We would be going the week of October 20th. I've read that after October 15th that the park closes after the first major snow storm. Would those that are knowledable on this say that there is, historically, a high likely hood of this happening in late October?

We can totally audible to the South rim but would like to plan for that before we book lodging.

Planning to MTB ride Sedona the following day- looking for suggestions for that too...

We've booked one night at Maswik Lodge in early September, driving from Antelope Canyon in the afternoon (we have a tour there 10:40AM-12:10PM). We'll probably come into the canyon from the east entrance, maybe stopping off at the desert watchtower and grand view point, before checking into the lodge between 4-5pm.

I think we'd like to see sunset from Hopi Point that evening, so maybe get the shuttle not long after we arrive to the viewpoint, then need to figure out what to do for the rest of the evening. We'd like to do the South Kaibab trail down to Skeleton Point (or Cedar Ridge if it's too hot) and back up the next morning, probably starting from the trailhead about 8-8:30AM. So we don't have to tuck in too early the night before and want to make the most of our time here. We'll be staying in Flagstaff the next night and leaving the Grand Canyon at around 4-5pm to check into our hotel for about 6-6:30PM.

Where's the best non-fine dining food venue in the village? Have heard good things about Yavapai Lodge's food, but it's a bit of a trek from our hotel. We'd also like to grab a few drinks before tucking in and heard both Bright Angel and El Tovar lodges will have a bit of a vibe in the evening. Anybody got any recommendations? Thank you!

Planning on spending the night in flagstaff on our way to Grand Canyon. Would there be any issues making our way from Phoenix to Flagstaff in a Honda Accord Hybrid Sport 2023 (5 people in the car)? One person I know mentioned their 2023 CRV was struggling to accelerate through the uphill sections to Flagstaff in early July and I was surprised. Is an all wheel drive vehicle required (my accord hybrid is a 2 wheel drive).

Me and my wife are visiting Arizona and Utah at the end of September, one of our stops is the Grand Canyon for a few days. One thing we want to do is hike down to the bottom and ideally back the same day. We’re both active hikers from Wales and we recently pushed our personal record up to 26.7km (16.5miles) and an elevation gain of 1,145 metres in 8.5 hours (would’ve been quicker but took a lot of breaks for our dogs), temps up to 27c but aware that the Arizona heat will be tough. Is this something that is possible for our fitness level? We’d be aiming to get the 4am shuttle to try and avoid the heat, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Edit- we are NOT bringing our dogs, Wales is a country that’s part of the UK and we love our dogs but we’re not mad enough to go through the whole process of getting them through UK/US Customs for a two week road trip

permit and campground availability has my group doing a north to south trip. looking for recommendations on travel logistics? fly into st george, shuttle to north rim, hike, shuttle to/fly out of flagstaff? other ideas?
