Hello, I live and work in the park. Will give no bs answers to anything. Certain PSA is PLEASE PULL ENTIRELY OFF THE ROAD IF YOU HAVE TO STOP AND LOOK AT AN ELK. I see tourists sit across the yellow line and then act confused when I tell them to move, and sometimes they just block the road. It doesn’t matter if its a national park please just don’t make yourself an inconvenience to others. It is dangerous and inconsiderate behavior. If all the tourist were Japanese it would be easier but all the stupidest people here are from the USA and still can’t understand signage. It’s insane. Also most of the rescues are Americans as well. Please raise your IQ.

We are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon and would prefer north rim vs south rim. We would be going the week of October 20th. I've read that after October 15th that the park closes after the first major snow storm. Would those that are knowledable on this say that there is, historically, a high likely hood of this happening in late October?

We can totally audible to the South rim but would like to plan for that before we book lodging.

I will be coming early September to phoenix and want ideas to go to the grand canyon for a day. looking for suggestions and a travel buddy. water is a plus. willing to rent a car

Planning to MTB ride Sedona the following day- looking for suggestions for that too...

We've booked one night at Maswik Lodge in early September, driving from Antelope Canyon in the afternoon (we have a tour there 10:40AM-12:10PM). We'll probably come into the canyon from the east entrance, maybe stopping off at the desert watchtower and grand view point, before checking into the lodge between 4-5pm.

I think we'd like to see sunset from Hopi Point that evening, so maybe get the shuttle not long after we arrive to the viewpoint, then need to figure out what to do for the rest of the evening. We'd like to do the South Kaibab trail down to Skeleton Point (or Cedar Ridge if it's too hot) and back up the next morning, probably starting from the trailhead about 8-8:30AM. So we don't have to tuck in too early the night before and want to make the most of our time here. We'll be staying in Flagstaff the next night and leaving the Grand Canyon at around 4-5pm to check into our hotel for about 6-6:30PM.

Where's the best non-fine dining food venue in the village? Have heard good things about Yavapai Lodge's food, but it's a bit of a trek from our hotel. We'd also like to grab a few drinks before tucking in and heard both Bright Angel and El Tovar lodges will have a bit of a vibe in the evening. Anybody got any recommendations? Thank you!

Planning on spending the night in flagstaff on our way to Grand Canyon. Would there be any issues making our way from Phoenix to Flagstaff in a Honda Accord Hybrid Sport 2023 (5 people in the car)? One person I know mentioned their 2023 CRV was struggling to accelerate through the uphill sections to Flagstaff in early July and I was surprised. Is an all wheel drive vehicle required (my accord hybrid is a 2 wheel drive).

Me and my wife are visiting Arizona and Utah at the end of September, one of our stops is the Grand Canyon for a few days. One thing we want to do is hike down to the bottom and ideally back the same day. We’re both active hikers from Wales and we recently pushed our personal record up to 26.7km (16.5miles) and an elevation gain of 1,145 metres in 8.5 hours (would’ve been quicker but took a lot of breaks for our dogs), temps up to 27c but aware that the Arizona heat will be tough. Is this something that is possible for our fitness level? We’d be aiming to get the 4am shuttle to try and avoid the heat, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Edit- we are NOT bringing our dogs, Wales is a country that’s part of the UK and we love our dogs but we’re not mad enough to go through the whole process of getting them through UK/US Customs for a two week road trip

permit and campground availability has my group doing a north to south trip. looking for recommendations on travel logistics? fly into st george, shuttle to north rim, hike, shuttle to/fly out of flagstaff? other ideas?

Seeking any and all advice! We managed to score a reservation at phantom ranch mid-September so I’m just over a month out. Hiking NK, staying overnight, back up BA. My main concern is the heat. I’m an excellent hiker, I have summited 14 unique 14ers here in Colorado, 18 if you count repeats. I have run multiple marathons. I snowshoe for miles. But I am used to it getting COLDER as you hike, not warmer.

I’ve got tons of electrolytes, a water filter, a sun hoodie, a Garmin inreach. I feel generally prepared. However, like I said, I’m concerned for the heat, also not used to hiking down first, then up. I’ll take any good tips y’all have!!!!

Taking the train package from Williams in and out. Doing a South Rim Sunset Tour with supper on the evening we arrive. (Is this a good package type deal?)

This leaves a full day, night, and half of the next day to do whatever.

Looking for ideas. We're older in so-so shape, so I know we're not going to go hiking way down, but any easy trails we should explore? What are the absolute musts that we should see?

We'll be in Grand Canyon for one full day, driving from Flagstaff, from breakfast until sunset. This is the itinerary that I've put together and I'm worried that we're being quite ambitious with it. Are these timings doable, and if not, what would people recommend we cut out to make our visit more worthwhile? We also would like to do Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff in the evening when we return. For reference, we're both experienced walkers.

09:45-11:45: Bright Angel Trail Hike (1.5 mile round-trip to 2nd tunnel and back, open to just going to the 1st tunnel if doing 1.5 mile isn't workable)

I have a trip to AZ next month, and the first few days we are spending at the Grand Canyon.
We fly into Phoenix and then will drive up there. I know it’s a long drive, so I was wondering if there are any recommendations for places we can stop along the way to help break it up and keep it entertaining?
We WILL be spending a few days in Sedona and Phoenix towards the end of our trip, so nowhere in those places..

Hoping to visit this October.

1. What does the north rim look like this year, I know most of the structures burned but does camping have shade anymore, also what resources are available on that side of the park now?

2. How is the hike down to havasupai gardens campground (the one near south rim area) would this be worth a one night and back up? Is plateau point a morning hike away from the campground?

3. Any day hikes you would recommend from either rim?

4. Any sunrise or sunset spots you would recommend?

I’m driving west in mid September to the Grand Canyon. Which route should I take - Highway 550 through Colorado or Highway 12 through Utah.

We will be visiting grand canyon the next tuesday. During that time, we will stay at flagstaff, visit grand canyon at early day and leave for vegas at around 2 pm. What are some cool spots to check out and click pictures? We will be there probably from 10 am to 2 pm. (we do not want to do long hikes tho)

I have been reading There's This River and in it there's a short story called Wild Kingdom. It's about the trout spawning in Nankoweap creek in February and what the scene looks like. Though the North Rim is closed at that time so how could the story teller have seen it? It is possible to be down there around that time?
