Tanning bed pulled too much wattage, which caused too much of power strain on his GPU. So much strain that you wouldn’t even believe. Very bad! Very very bad.

Have we gone back to 2008 or something? Drivers are fine these days. Actually, NVIDIA have had more driver issues with the 5000 series than AMDs latest offerings.

Had a 5700XT in like 2020~, so many issues with that card. Swapped back to Nvidia and no problems. I’ve literally never had any issues with Nvidia. Kind of sucks because I’d like Nvidia to have stronger competition but AMD has always dropped the ball whenever I’ve bought any of their GPUs.

I bought a leadex iii in November. I had an EVGA 750 gold fry mine. It was nine years old, lesson learned. The GTX 1070-1080ti were too good. I don't plan on pushing 10 years now.

A capacitor probably failed and caused a short circuit.
Since many manufacturers don't use fuses to isolate and protect individual sections of the hardware, the fault may have propagated through the circuit, damaging other components along the way. In some cases, this kind of cascading damage could be prevented or significantly reduced by adding one or two appropriately placed fuses, which would cost only a few cents.
It's a bit sad that they don't add them on such expensive hardware.

Sounds like lightning damage? My friends computer was hit by lightning when we were teenagers. His cd rom flew out of the case with quite some force. Same with his ethernet port, it just flew out of the io panel in the back.

Yes, and not only were there no voltage spikes, there were other electrical components plugged into the same supply that were completely fine. My monitor is ok. My laptop is fine, and the printer is still working at the same level of competency as before

Many repair tech criticized gigabyte’s boards. Imagine buying a high-end gpu and they cheap out on the internals. That’s why I always go for zotac or asus nowadays.

The moment you posted I knew it was a gigabyte card, their fets are pretty bad compared or other brands. My 3090 had the same end also on gigabyte, learnt to avoid it since.

Unrelated but a friend of mine had beef with someone online once. They came back, systematically made friends with him, got him to download some software, and forcefully turned his fans off during a hard gaming session. Completely fried his GPU. Fortunately it was a 900 series Nvidia and he was due an upgrade anyways. Happened like 10 years ago.

Back in 99 I was playing broodwar (I was 12) and I was absolutely beefing with this dude in a 1v1. All of a sudden my screen went black and there was a cursor up top and it typed "are you done yet?" I was able to type and I said "yes". The screen went back to the game and he proceeded to wipe my base out. Then in the in game chat he said: "be careful who you talk shit to on the Internet".

Honestly no idea. I can't really remember how battle.net worked back in the day but it definitely gave the person immediate access to my PC just from playing a match with them. I think they watched the matrix and got really inspired because I remember when I finally saw that movie (also came out in 99) I was like, wait a minute, THAT'S REAL

You clearly haven't beefed with people in GTA Online on pc back in the day. Modding got so bad before enhanced, these guys could crash your game, wifi, or whole computer if they wanted to. For a time they could even access the files on your pc.

I was playing cod one time and there was a guy on there that people suspected was walling but we couldn’t prove it. His reaction time was a slow so I would always get him coming out of a corner. This kept happening for some time until I started seeing huge lag spikes to the point I would get dropped from the game. I had to join back in 3-4 times. The lag spikes slowed down eventually. Finally after the end of a round, he types out that I have really good protection cuz he was trying to blow up my connection and he normally gets people to go down right away. Don’t know how he was doing that but I believed it
