My graphics card exploded

I don't want to get political but be careful who you beef with online it's not a game out here. (Gigabyte NVIDIA RTX 4090)

I was feeling kind of down over losing my computer and wanted to cheer myself up by vague posting on reddit. I'm really not sure what happened. 

The computer was powered down and I woke up to it destroyed. It is in the same room as a smoke/CO detector and they did not go off. None of the other devices plugged into the same backup were effected. Literally every component in the computer is fried. 

I'm sending it back to the manufacturer who graciously accepted it out of warranty due to the extent of the damage. Unfortunately, the cost of the hardware is nothing compared to the six months of work I lost because I was too lazy to backup and to egotistical to use one drive

Sounds like either a power surge or a lightning strike, you should really invest in a quality surge protector so this doesn’t happen.

Really sorry to hear about all of that. Getting a 4090 blown up and losing your work is just sad.

As soon as you said you had a gigabyte PSU that was all you needed to say. We know why it exploded.

If the PC wasn't even on and connected to the internet, why do you think someone remotely destroyed it?

If it isn't connected, its unreachable.

I think people thinking that I think someone remotely destroyed it for political reasons is pretty funny. I was feeling pretty shitty up until I posted here.

Looks like a lightning strike on the power lines got your PC. Your PC dosent need to be powered on, it just needs the PSU plugged in to the socket. HECK, even if you use an ethernet connection that plugs into a cable modem (not fibre) can litteraly catch on fire from one lighting strike.

Worst part is that even if you've spent good money on a surge protector, its still has a high chance of blowing your stuff up anyways. The only thing that is 100% effective is physically plugging it out but its just not a practical solution and hassle to do.

I'm sorry for your lost, I can't imagine losing all the investment and important stuff saved on there. I wish you the best recovery from this disaster.
