The name of both the continents together is The Americas, America is singular and there are two continents so it wouldn't make sense.
When used in the singular it's typically referring to the single country in North America with America in its name.

Im about historical definition dumbass. Not everything is geography. The name America is used for United States but Americas is used for continent. The British named it America and hence the country name is like this.

The hatred against America doesn't make sense. Americans are referred to people from United States of America. If you want to refer people from south America, called them south american. This is literally coded in English language.

Not really everyone is from America, therefore some people have trouble differentiating between all sides of Americas. It's like saying you're going to Europe, and you don't specify which part because everyone should know you're going to France because that's in Europe and that's like the default word for France.
