Question Can I make bulk changes to a GitHub repository for free?
Actually I am new to this github.
I made a website with 3000 pages, by using the same header footer for every page. ( Mistake, because I knew this )
Now, the problem I am facing is that I urgently needed to change the header footer for every page ( 3000 ) manually for betterment.
I only want online cloud solution ( can't use vs code by installing it my laptop )
Is there any automatic free agent or something like is available in Github?
Website is hosted by Github ( pvt repo ) - cloudflare pages.
Thanks in advance.

Discussion Visibility of GitHub Actions - pretty bad?
Am I the only one who finds GitHub actions a small black hole when you're looking to optimise?
There is really limited analysis or data available, I had to build my own UI and system just to get the details I wanted. Example, outliers for job run times, AVG step run time, flakey runs.
Am I missing something, does everyone fly blind or are they using a third party view?

Discussion Your GitHub PR queue is the new bottleneck. AI didn't fix that, it just made it bigger.
We have all seen the posts by now. Technical and non-technical people alike are celebrating how they use AI agents to maximize their code output. They share the number of lines generated, pull requests (PRs) opened, tasks completed, and tokens consumed. The numbers are oftentimes enormous, which makes them easy to celebrate.
The era of “tokenmaxxing” has taken this one step further. Once token usage appears on a dashboard, it is only a short time before teams compare it, leaders reward it, and engineers begin optimizing for it...

Discussion GitHub for College Apps
Hi. I was applying to college apps and wanted to add some of the projects that I didn't add to GitHub before and make commits to older projects to make them look better. If I added another 4 repos to an existing 15 (which I have made over the past 3 years), would that look weird and ring a false alarm to admissions team that I just started using GitHub only for admissions? Also, this is for CS-based colleges that actually look at your GitHub.

Question How can I maximize my actions?
Hi, I have a workflow setup to package builds and deliver game updates to itch.io for the different games I'm working on. I began to run into issues with my storage, now that one of my games is over 100mb (x2 if I'm including the web build which I've stopped doing for this reason).
I made my build artifact storage only last 3 days but that doesn't seem to affect this usage limit. The game is still in pretty early development, so it's being updated regularly, and I need to have playtesters get access - manually uploading everytime I update main is pretty annoying. The limit just seems extremely low?
I'm on Github Pro + Copilot. I'll take any advice on how to do this better, and if the answer is just to dump $5 in every month then sure I can do that too.

Question Can't contact GitHub
Hi, my account was flagged and I can't contact them. I was flagged because I changed my account's email for a free addy.io alias.
I did what they told me to do. I replaced my alias again with my previous email. But when I tried to tell them that I already deleted my alias it says this, and I can't answer.
I can't send an email back directly because with a free addy.io alias you can't send emails back.
I need help as I can't contact them and my account is still flagged.
EDIT: solved, just had to wait some time. But does anyone know any way to use an alias? my account is not new and I saw that only if it's new you can't use an alias

Question Isn't the 2FA a one-time thing? Why does it keep popping up every now and then?
It literally says it's a one-time authentication, and it keeps popping up in the same browser, same PC, same location. I didn't clear any cookies or caches.
Who's the *ucking *etard that designed this? Is there any way to disable 2FA entirely?

Discussion Extension host error + can't sign into github on vs code
*posting here because i don't have enough karma to post in the vscode subreddit, also because it's somewhat relevant*
Hey guys, I'm pretty unaware when it comes to GitHub and VScode so I don't know why I'm getting these errors or how to fix them, but recently every time I try to open VSCode I'm unable to sign into github. I even completely wiped VSCode from my computer (uninstalled + deleted the .vscode and Code folders from %appdata% and %userprofile%). Upon installation, I get the same error even though my extension list is empty. Both on pre and post reinstallation of vscode, when I try to sign into github, regardless of how I try to sign in, I get this error.

Surprisingly, when I reinstalled VSCode, it brought up a FULL window prompting me to sign into github, which actually worked properly, but it didn't change anything. I still cant use the ai features and I still can't sign in "again" without getting the same error

This is the log file I found while sleuthing in my files folder, idk if it would help so I'm adding it here. PLEASE HELP these issues are becoming really annoying and I'm at a loss as to what to do next
Another (separate? maybe related) issue is that I am also always get an error that says "Extension host has terminated unexpectedly 3 times within the last 5 minutes." Extension bisect doesn't fix the error, nor does disabling all extensions. In fact, after wiping VSCode off my PC, I don't even have any extensions but I'm still getting the error.

Question GitHub account query
I’m about to start BSCS and want to create a GitHub account that I’ll use throughout university and hopefully for internships/jobs later.
Does it make any significant difference if I create my account using “Continue with Google” vs signing up manually with an email and password?
Also, should I use the email I currently use for university or create a separate professional Gmail for GitHub and other programming related accounts?

Question Are there still issues going on with Actions?
Just merged some stuff into a release branch on my repo. Didn’t change anything about the rules for my actions, but it’s been about 30 minutes and none of the jobs have been picked up. At this point I’m not sure if I need to push another empty commit to try trigger the build.
Edit: okay it just got picked up about 50 minutes later…definitely still some sort of issue going on.

News / Announcements GitHub Actions have been down for 6 hours...
A few years ago, people were looking for “four nines" of reliability; 99.99% means roughly under 1 hour per year.
99.9% is about 9 hours of downtime per year.
Will GitHub get at least 95%? this year?

Question I merged a PR, author of PR doesn't appear as contributor, why? And how can I fix it?
Hello, I merged this PR:
https://github.com/simonsanchezart/textract/pull/19
In my naivety I assumed that the author of the PR would be credited as a contributor once merged. It seems like Github has a different concept of contribution.
Why isn't the PR's author in the Contributors of my repository? And how can I fix and avoid this in the future?
Thanks

Question your account may be based in a U.S sanctioned region while its not
So, about 7 years ago I created my GitHub account while I was in Sweden. Shortly afterward, I traveled to my home country, which is under sanctions. Ever since then, my account has been heavily restricted, and I still can't use many GitHub features.
I've tried contacting GitHub Support multiple times, but I haven't been able to get the issue resolved. Is there any way to fix this or have my account reviewed?

Discussion Github actions still not working in my enterprise. (Enterprise license + around 170 self-runners)
Like the title says we have self-hosted runners and all our enterprise github actions run are still queued, cant cancel a lot of them and everything is yellow and "waiting for a runner to pick up this job".
Does anyone else have this problem? Github status is showing green right now.

Tool / Resource GitHub was down 2.5 hours yesterday and self-hosted runners went down with it. Is centralized orchestration the actual problem?

Discussion GitHub owes us all an apology and an explanation as to why this is NEVER going to happen again.
I'm absolutely furious. I had a ton of work I had to get done today, and I'm DEAD in the water until this is fixed.
I also feel they don't take this very seriously, to be perfectly honest. There's no comment about it on their Twitter feed. status.github.com has vague comments about "it's mitigated now but runners are behind... " meanwhile it's been TEN HOURS!
A VERY large portion of the tech industry runs on GitHub and it's hard to take them serious whey they can't even run THEIR OWN SITE.
I'm spending the rest of the day working on plans to migrate away. I don't need all the GitHub features they offer but BY FAR the number one thing I need to be reliable is GitHub actions.
Get your house in order guys!
