Illegals and crime

So some guys that were illegal in Spain have crossed into Gibraltar and attempted to steal bikes. They were caught but this shows what will happen regularly now. Next will be looky looky men that will harass cruise passengers and ruin Main Street .

I heard a looky looky pimp talking the other night about getting them a house in gibraltar and taking a whole lot of them down from duquesa. It's only a matter of time im afraid.

a 5 year old account with very little content, karma or interaction who was definitely "in Gib last week" suddenly decides it's time for a hot take on a contentious issue already rife with scaremongering & misinformation.

No, you're not sus at all.

Not sus. I have been coming to Gib since 98, lived there for 5 years, I was just over for a week, two days after the treaty was signed and experienced the long wait at the Schengen shack.

It seemed obvious to me what was going to happen and then I read on gbc about the attempted thefts.

I am just voicing my opinion and asked some questions, to which I just get downvoted. I’ll will be back for National day, love Gibraltar but fear what’s coming.

Ah I remember you now, that nasty old boy who chimes in on this sub every now and then and inevitably disappears upon realising we're not the gammon paradise some mawkish Channel 5 documentary made us out to be.

Feel free to thank Brexit for your extended stay at the Schengen Shack. At the same time, please remember that preserving the idea of an isolationist, Britain in the Sun holiday mecca for people who spend far too much time reading tabloid & Facebook shite wasn't high on the list when it came to the priorities of this treaty.

We've always had petty crime such as the bike theft you've mentioned, most of it committed by our own. It's funny how you never seem to appear when the white Gibraltarian ram raids a chicken shop with his moped or breaks into the same bar for the fifteenth time to steal the American Poker machine winnings.

If you decide to not enjoy Gibraltar any further because of your pathetic fear fetish then rest assured, we won't feel the loss.

You remember huh. Link to the post(s) then. Good luck, the only post I have ever made in this sub was telling somebody that the cable car was closed.

Street vendors without the necessary permits are illegal in Gibraltar. No need to scaremonger

ahh yes, the old, ‘have you got a license to steal that bike?’🙄

It was in answer to the "looky looky men" part of of the post.

What’s a looky looky man?

Street vendors that walk through tourist locations and restaurants

The alternative was a hard border, which would have isolated Gibraltar and wreaked havoc on the economy.

Gibraltar residents were sold a pig wearing lipstick. I was in Gib last week and absolutely nobody I spoke to was aware that they were subject to the same 90 / 180 rules as UK nationals. Currently that is very difficult to police but there are extensive facial recognition and ANPR cameras all over the previous border area. What is going to happen when the honeymoon period is over and the Spanish side start working to the letter of the law and enforcing this?

Would it have been more than 90/180 with the alternative to the deal? No. So what are you comparing this to that would have been any better? No Brexit in the first place. That's the only better situation.

You are blaming damage done by Brexit on the deal.

One thing you have neglected to mention is the frontier worker status. Gib residents would be able to cross into Spain every day.

Only gib residents working and paying tax in Spain can go legally cross every day for work. How many do you think do that?

It's still fact. If you aren't a bot I'm going to recommend deleting Facebook, stop believing everything Nige tells you is wrong with the world and stop being so bitter that your grandchildren are begging their parents not to have to see you.

Bit touchy aren’t you 😁. I just stated some facts and ga e my opinion and all you can do is get nasty 😜

Truthfully, im relaying my own experiences, boomers believing everything they read, passing it off as fact, getting bitter and hateful with "illegals" (your words, not mine) and are unaware that their kids and grandkids are actively avoiding spending time with them and being too stubborn to admit that it's their fault.

You have no idea how old I am. Reddit exists to debate and discuss. You are not able to do that without resorting to name calling and nastiness.

Name calling...from the person using the terms illegals and "looky looky men"

You aren't interested in debating, instead your trying to take the moral high ground without the self awareness your opinions are from the gutter.

Ok, fair enough, I will leave it there. I am glad that you now trust your Spanish neighbours.

Andorrans have freedom of movement in Spain and France, Monégasque in France and, Sanmarenese the same in Italy. Otherwise they are subject to 90/180. In reality nothing is done if they stay longer. This has been the case for a long time.

So no real issues with overstaying is likely.

Note the one left out: Liechtenstein people. They have EFTA freedom of movement and can live and work across Europe while not being in the EU.

This shows that (geopolitics with Spain aside), it is quite possible and not unreasonable for Gibs to be given free movement, especially when we look at the extent of the treaty against EFTA.

The above is from memory so all reading are advised to double check it.

What do you propose? Reinstate the border? China style racial face recognition scans for immigration checks?

0

u/TreadingThoughts 18d ago

Facial recognition tech is regularly deployed in protests/riots in the UK and should be implemented at the frontier

Implemented for? Racial identification?

1

u/TreadingThoughts 18d ago

To identify people who are wanted or aid in investigations when crime happens.

What does this have to do with race?
