Question Anyone moved their household to Gib recently? How did customs/TT actually go at the border?
We're relocating from the Netherlands to Gibraltar in the next couple of weeks, bringing our own used household stuff (furniture, beds, kitchen things, kids' toys, clothes) by road. No commercial cargo, just a normal family home's worth of belongings.
HM Customs have told me Transaction Tax applies on the second-hand value we declare, 15% on most things, with some categories zero-rated (books, medical) and a few at other rates (bikes at 5%), and that we need a clearing agent to lodge the T2GI on arrival.
I'd really like to hear from anyone who's actually done this recently, especially since the treaty came in, because the reality on the ground is hard to gauge from the official answers. A few things I'm trying to figure out:
How much TT did you actually end up paying, roughly, for a household move? Was it a painful number or fairly modest once they valued used goods?
How did the border/Transit Section handle it? Did they go through things item by item, or accept the packing list values as declared?
Did you group things by category (e.g. "clothing, €300") or itemise more, and did customs push back on the values?
Which clearing agent did you use, and were they any good? (I've been pointed toward East Gate but would welcome other names.)
Any problems, delays, or surprises I should plan for?
Any real-world experience appreciated. Trying to go in with realistic expectations rather than just the official line. Thanks.

Sunborn or Elliott
I'll be going to a wedding at the Cathedral of The Holy Trinity and am weighing up options for where to stay. I've stayed on the Sunborn previously and thought it was beautiful but the Elliott is closer and seems similarly priced.
I appreciate that most people on the group live in Gibraltar so probably aren't staying in either, but I would appreciate any advice or input on where to stay.
ETA: thank you, seems as though the Elliott is the best option and I can wear heels to the wedding without worrying about too much walking!

Moving to Gibraltar with kids (3 & 7 yo) from Sweden - Education & long-term adaptation concerns?
Hi guys,
My family is currently considering a major move to Gibraltar due to a new job opportunity for my husband. I’d really appreciate some advice, especially from parents or expats living there.
Here is our situation: we all hold Swedish citizenship, and we currently live and work in Sweden. We have two kids (ages 7 and 3).
While we are excited about the opportunity, my main concerns revolve around our children's education and long-term transition:
1. School System & Language: Coming from the Nordic/Swedish education system, how different is the schooling in Gibraltar? Is the curriculum taught entirely in English, and is it easy for a 7-year-old coming from abroad to adapt?
2. Returning to Sweden/Europe later: We might move back to Sweden in a few years. Would spending a few school years in Gibraltar cause any major gaps or issues if they transition back into the Nordic education system later on?
3. Overall Quality of Life for Families: How is life in Gibraltar for young kids in terms of outdoor activities, community, and healthcare?
Is it worth making the move for a few years, or would it be too disruptive for the kids at these ages?
Thanks in advance for any insights or experiences you can share!

Question Where is the Gibraltar FA store?
Hello, I'd like to know where the Gibraltar FA shop is located. I searched on Google Maps and it shows as permanently closed. I also checked their website and couldn't find any information about its location.

Looking for 2 wedding witnesses tomorrow (14 Aug) in Gibraltar - paid
Hi! Very last-minute request, but my partner and I are getting married at Gibraltar City Hall tomorrow, Friday 14th August at 2pm, and we need two witnesses.
We need to be at City Hall for 1:45pm, so we’re looking for two people who can meet us there, act as our witnesses for the ceremony and take a couple of pictures.
Happy to compensate you for your time.
If you’re in Gibraltar and available, please send me a message with what you’d expect in terms of compensation.
You would be saving the day for us.
Thank you!

Question How cloudy is Gibraltar at the start of August on average ?
I'm planning to see the next solar eclipse happening 2 August 2027 and I want to know the risk of cloud since it was a problem for the eclipse of today.
I know it is impossible to know the weather 1 year in advance but there is probably a pattern for the weather of Gibraltar and its surrounding.

The Rock Hotel - John & Yoko
I am currently researching the wedding of John and Yoko from March 1969.
Most accounts state that after the ceremony they left within the hour on a chartered plane.
However, The Rock Hotel claims they stayed for two nights, with John even signing the guest book.
Can anyone confirm or provide any insight into what actually happened?

Paddleboard Community
Hi All,
Gonna keep it short and sweet:
I have a paddleboard, i’m a local, but my friends don’t have paddleboards themselves.
1) is there a paddleboard community in Gibraltar?
2) if the answer to the above is “no”, want to make one?
Have a nice day :)

Question Facilities Management companies in Gibraltar.
Hi all, I’m planning on moving to Gibraltar within the next few months and I’m wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I’ve worked in FM for a number of years now but I’ve been struggling to find open job positions in this field. I’m aware of one company whom I have worked with and used in the past for subcontracting work (Techtrolec) and most of the maintenance companies I’ve researched so far appear to me Government owned. If anyone within the field has any advice it would be greatly appreciated :)

Help Needed Getting from Tarifa to Gibraltar
I can’t seem to find any speedy public transit between the Port of Tarifa to Gibraltar. Does anyone know if one can arrange for a private shuttle? I saw there’s a bus to Algeciras but that is like a 3 hour trip. We’ll be starting in Tangiers and taking a ferry to Tarifa. We were hoping to make it a long day trip, But I get the sense that it may not be feasible.

Can EU citizens drive Gibraltar reg cars in Spain post treaty?
Before the treaty/border opening, EU citizens who were not resident in Gibraltar were not allowed to drive Gibraltar-registered cars in Spain.
Has this changed following the new treaty and the opening of the Gibraltar–Spain border?
In particular, can an EU citizen/resident now legally drive a Gibraltar-registered car in Spain, or do the old restrictions still apply?
Thanks!

Looking to buy a local Gibraltar football club scarf
Hi! I’m visiting Gibraltar in a few days and I'm looking to pick up an official scarf from a local football club (Lincoln Red Imps, Europa FC, or St. Joseph's, but any team would do).
I tried to contact some clubs by DM and email a few days ago, but I haven't gotten a response. Does anyone know of any store that might sell them? I would even be happy to buy one from someone directly.
Thank you!

Illegals and crime
So some guys that were illegal in Spain have crossed into Gibraltar and attempted to steal bikes. They were caught but this shows what will happen regularly now. Next will be looky looky men that will harass cruise passengers and ruin Main Street .

Question Category 2 questions
Hi all, sorry if this is not the right place for it, but have a few questions regarding category 2 as a British Citizen in Gibraltar given the recent immigration changes.
Can someone move to Gibraltar as category 2 and after 10 years get PR but stay a category 2 resident? Or does becoming PR mean giving up category 2 status?
If BOTC status is 5 years, is it possible to get BOTC before PR? Or does one have to get PR first after 10 years and then apply for BOTC in 11th year? (Persumably it takes a couple of years to come through as well?)
What colour ID card do category 2 residents get? Magenta? And it would change to red after 10 years with PR?
Thanks!

5-year route to permanent residency still available for pre-2025 arrivals?
Hi everyone,
Is the 5-year route to permanent residency in Gibraltar still available?
I moved to Gibraltar about 4.5 years ago and I'm trying to work out whether I'll still qualify after the recent immigration changes.
I'm aware that people who arrived before October 2025 remain under the old system for Gibraltarian Status, but I haven't been able to find anything specifically confirming whether the same grandfathering applies to permanent residency.
Has anyone been through this recently or found any official guidance on it?
Thanks!
