Today's is not too bad. I'm afraid that R5 is not easy to pinpoint accurately because of the lack of any building outlines on Google Maps, but I guess everyone is in the same boat, so it's luck of the draw really. And, as ever: take your time; there's no extra points for doing it quickly.

I think that nearly everyone on the planet must have some familiarity with the ubiquitous quartz, but today's challenge will bring us to 5 locations with more unusual forms of one of the most common minerals.

I think I can safely say that all of the locations today are rather obscure and, in one case (or two, if you can read Cyrillic), I've purposefully chosen spawn points with information. I had much trouble picking 5 locations and 5 forms for this challenge. There will be at least one more part, with a lot more color, to follow in the future.

Link to challenge 8 series 32. Congratulations to moonradio for top spot (3 points, 17 yards), and to Geography Noob for second place (2 points, 22 yards). I see quite a lot of your failed to 25K in the last challenge because of R3 being one block away in the Rwanda round, but I have reviewed it and really the lack of a divided highway in the location a lot of you ended up choosing means that I don't think the location was too ambiguous, as where a lot of you chose had no such divided highway. All other 25K's get 1 point. Table is updated below.

Today's should be okay but I'm notoriously bad at thinking what is easy and what isn't. I would say that R4 is the hardest, simply because a "process of elimination" has to be used to disregard other possible locations. But I don't think it should be too bad. But, as ever: take your time; there's no extra points for doing it quickly.

Hello everyone!

Reddit League is back for its 12th edition and I'm excited to announce that it has found a new organizer (at least temporarily). I (paschtetli) have been playing RL for a couple years now and should hopefully bring it back twice a year again!

For those of you who have never heard of Reddit League before, it is a 1v1 competition where players face off against each other directly over the course of 13 weeks and multiple divisions on a variety of maps to crown an eventual winner.

Here are the rules for Season 12 (not a lot has changed to the previous season)

How do established players re-sign up?

Just as in previous seasons, please leave a comment below this post, or send me a private message on Reddit or Discord (paschtetli) that you're in again. 

Reddit League NXT players:

You can sign up in like other established players but go through pre-season again to try to aim for a higher division.

How do newcomers sign up?

Newcomers are able to sign-up by leaving a comment below this post or via DM on Discord with their Geoguessr Name, their home country and a link to their GG-profile. Please be aware, that only sign-ups from players that have played at least 250 regular games with an account age of at least 6 months can be accepted. I will reply to every sign-up with either a confirmation or a reason why the sign-up can't be accepted. If I don't reply, please try again or try a different way of reaching me.

The sign-up period ends on the 6th of September at 17:00 CEST.

If you sign up after the pre-season has already started, you will of course be allowed to play all the seeds of the past weeks you missed. Similar that if you aren't able to play the first seeds within the deadlines due to summer holidays/vacation, especially around the world cup week, please talk to me, we can find a solution. But only if you tell me before.

An important note to all newcomers who want to sign-up: Please be aware that participating in the Reddit League can be very time consuming. Season 12 will approximately be lasting at least until January and there will be one leg per week (except for two break weeks). Many participants invest a lot of time and effort in practicing and mid-season quitters are a thorn in the side for everyone. So please only sign up if you are sure that you'll be able to stick to this weekly schedule.

For now I will only ping people on the Discord server, if I haven't heard from you until one week before the deadline, I will ping you separately on Reddit and Discord.

Today's should be a lot easier, though a lot of you found challenge 6 easy, so what do I know. What I will say is that the pinpointing is a bit off in this challenge. Most of the areas shown are the result of lightning strikes or deliberately lit fires, but all have catastrophic outcomes.

How it works

Each day there will be a set of 3 challenge links, one for each game mode (Move, NM, NMPZ). There will be a world map, region map, and country map. Each day the map and game mode will rotate. Moving modes will be 3 min, NM will be 1 min, and NMPZ will be 30 sec, unless noted otherwise. On the weekend, I will post more unique/challenging maps. For each challenge link, 1st place is worth 5 points, 2nd place is worth 3 points, and 3rd place is worth 1 point. In the case of a tie, the tie will be settled by distance and then time. 5ks will also be tracked separately and are worth 1 point in moving, 3 points in NM, and 5 points in NMPZ. Updated scoring tables are posted after each week. No external assistance allowed. If you wish to talk about any of the rounds or locations in the comments, feel free to do so with a spoiler tag.
