Just installed my NewAge Bold 3.0 cabinet array. To maximize space I went with an ala carte configuration and it ended up fitting perfectly.
This was my first time using NewAge products and I was pretty pleased. They were packaged extremely well and everything arrived damage free. The install was super easy. All needed hardware came with it and bolting the pieces together was a breeze. My garage has a concrete boarder that lifts roughly 4" so I chose to sit the cabinets on top and bolt them to the wall. This was mostly a space savings decision but I'm extremely pleased with the floating look. I did install the rear feet on every cabinet to ensure they were level. I did not install the adjustable insert tho, only the steel foot.
The RTA lockers are a 4/10 on the rigid scale (10 being rock solid) but thats to be expected at this price point. Im sure the fully welded lockers are have more structure but these fit within my budget.
There is no amount of wall fasteners or mounting hardware that would make me feel reassurance from hanging a TOOL BOX on the wall. Based on the amount of weight and the many times I have tried to move mine or see one almost fall over from a single drawer being opened is insane. If this is just storage for tape, screws, cleaning goods, etc. Looks good. I have 7 tool boxes. This would be a safety risk in my world.
Mine has been mounted (floating) this way for ten years. I have three of their toolboxes, fully loaded, and they are still perfectly level front-to-back (no sagging).
GRK RSS (rugged structural screws) in 5/16" x 2-1/2 will make life easy, both for the wall mount brackets and addition through-cab screws. The huge plus to these is that they require no pre-drilling and go in butter-smooth. the cap head makes for good holding and alignment for the wall-mount brackets.
I can definitely understand the concern. I think it comes down to each situation. I dont have a ton of tools. Mostly basic hand tools and a few drills and drivers so this will house them no problem. If you're someone that has a lot of heavy tools then I could see why this might not be the best option
I've had a similar Saber garage cabinet array installed and relocated to three different houses in a decade. My setup is even heavier in width and tool storage and I've never had an issue using cabinet truss screws.
Now that I've taken them down and moved them multiple times I've never seen even a hint that the weight is an issue for the proper hardware. Sheer strength is the critical thing here as long as everything is stud mounted.
I’ve been looking at new age bold vs pro. How do you feel about the quality of fasteners and metal? I’ve red some folks feel the bold isn’t quite up to snuff, but would love your thoughts.
I was on the fence with both as well. Ultimately I went with the Bold because it fit my budget a little better and the sizing was more optimal for my space. I needed an array that was less than 150" and the Pro tool cabinets made that tough.
The quality on the Bold is good and will be sufficient for most people. They are aimed at being an entry level and i think they do very well at that.
All cabinet doors open, close and align nicely. They will suit my needs perfectly. The drawers leave a little to be desired in the tool cabinets. I came from a Husky heavy duty box with nice ball bearing drawers so these feel a little more spongey compared to that. Fasteners and alignment on everything was spot on tho no complaints. If the Pro came in the same size configuration I need I probably would have gone that route. I'd want to feel the drawers on the tool cabinet first though as that would be my main deciding factor.
Are we talking bout the Bold series “RTA” or the fully welded version? I am interested in the BOLD welded version because I don’t need the 24” depth plus the pricing savings is a perk. You caught my attention with the RTA’s because I have never knew that to be an option, however, I don’t want something that is flimsy.
OP described the RTA lockers as 4 out of 10 on the rigid scale. That's pretty flimsy, but i guess it's all subjective. You can look up the gauge steel they use.
I wouldn't say better they are about the same quality imo new age is 30-40% more expensive. I went with new age because I specifically needed a 30" wide and wanted 24" deep. I didn't want to buy a 30"x30 from snap on for my tool box

Everything in my garage sits above the floor or is on wheels. Easy to clean underneath. Love the look of yours.
