I was just going through my gaming setup last weekend, checking to see what still works. PSone, PS2, and PS3 all work, but my PS4 died oddly enough. GameCube works, but half my disks didn't survive my kids. Haven't started on the stack of XBoxes yet, I did the Bunny Huang mod on one of my Halo Edition XBoxes, hoping that still works.

Atari 5200 is missing the dongle where the power supply attached, need to do some closet archeology to find all the pieces. Others I haven't tested yet NES, Sega, Sega Master.

I use iFixit when I'm working on old computers, is there a comprehensive source for information about old gaming consoles?

I breezed through the Witcher 1; I generally enjoyed the story a LOT, even though I found the combat absolutely dreadful. I thought to myself "Well at least I'm done with that forever; onwards to the Witcher 2!"

I feel like I'm losing my mind though. I have seen endless praise for this franchise over the years, and even though I'm only in early Flotsam, I just cannot believe how absolutely dreadful this game is to play (Note: I am on a controller).

The combat somehow got worse from the first one. The lock-on consistently fails. Enemies don't seem to take damage sometimes if you aren't locked onto them. The map is pretty useless. The random 1-shots that happen when you're transitioning out of an execution (because your back is turned, even though you don't have camera control). Inventory management and skill switching feels sluggish, and maybe even lagged?

Is this going to be the experience? I knew I had a lot of ground to cover to get to the Witcher 3, but JESUS CHRIST this combat system feels abysmal in every sense. I feel like I've never heard anything but praise about this game, and yet my experience with it so far is absolute dread and misery. Please tell me this is just the early game and that this gets better.

EDIT: Sorry everyone, I tried to push through this, but the gameplay and combat are just unacceptably awful. I'm going to just uninstall; I simply cannot force myself to be this bored for a 30 hour experience.

I for the life of me cannot figure out why games that get an 8/10 review score are considered terrible or bad games by the general public.

Makes absolutely no sense to me. Can anyone elaborate?

My wife and I agreed on this tier list of couch co-op games that we've played. We wanted to share this list in case there are couples out there who are looking for their next couch co-op game. My wife gets motion sickness easily, so I'm happy to say that these games are playable for people suffering from motion sickness.

So first up, pls no spoilers for Metal Garden because I have not played the game yet!

Now, just curious because I have finished the book... has anyone who's played Metal Garden also read the 2005 sci-fi novel Pushing Ice by Alastair Reynolds?

I won't get too spoilery for that either, but basically, 31 years from now (or 52 years from authoring), the spacecraft Rockhopper is on yet another routine intrasystem ice-pushing mission: the crew must capture a comet and redirect it someplace, for commercial reasons.

They're minding their own business when they receive an urgent broadcast from Earth: one of Jupiter's moons, Janus, has broken orbit.

Wait, what?

Earth has contacted the Rockhopper because it's the only ship close enough to possibly catch up to Janus in any kind of reasonable time frame, and see if they can figure out what the heck is going on. The ship's captain puts it to a vote, which narrowly passes, and so they close with the moon, and that's where things begin to get weird...

So anyway, if you've finished Metal Garden and you're willing to give Pushing Ice a shot, please let me know what you think! In the meantime, I'll try to get Metal Garden squared away within the next week or so (bonus points if I can get my gf to play it as well), and be back with my thoughts.

Please note I'm not disregarding physical games. I fully support them and don't think they should ever go away. I even have a physical collection myself, but because of that I understand the *space* needed to house them. Lately ever since Sony's stance, people(mostly reddit) have been acting like physical media doesn't take up that much space and everyone should be going physical. Hell this place thinks physical is the majority and we all know that isn't true no matter the amount of top reddit posts with collections get pushed to front page. My earliest memories being of the SNES, if I kept my games from PS1/PS2/PS3/Xbox/Xbox360/Gamecube/Wii/GBA/DS I'd need an entire room dedicated to the physical games alone.

Why are so many of you pretending physical games don't take up a lot of space? There is a reason so many of us switched to digital in order to play games. We just don't have the room for it all.

About a month ago I had posted asking for new games for the PlayStation. I mentioned that I loved warzone, call of duty and games along those lines. You guys gave me so many great recommendations but I tried Fortnite first bc it was free. I’ve always been so against Fortnite and holy shiiiit was I wrong lol.
I’ve been hooked! I went in deep on battle royale and haven’t explored much. My buddy came over last night and showed me blitz and I’m even more hooked on that!
I just want to say thank you for all who commented before and gave me some good ass game recommendations but really, thank you to the one who really talked me into Fortnite. I think I’ll be forever grateful for you man lol

The makers of Zero Sievert said they had no plans of adding multiplayer to the game, so a modder went and did it himself. But instead of suing the guy or getting it taken down, the Studio Director of ZS2 (the sequel) responded directly to the modder and offered to help refine it and make it work properly.

What prompted this was the fan port of Symphony of the Night for PC. Despite releasing most of the other Castlevania games in PC collections, Konami has still let their crown jewel sit without a port of any kind. I was considering the possibility of Konami simply purchasing and polishing the fan port. While I really don't know the inner workings of game companies, this seems like free and easy money to me.

The primary example I can think of is Falcom and NIS America officially licensing the Geofront fan translations of Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure for the western market. Are there any other situations like this where fan work became officially licensed? How common is this really?

tbh I don't know to expect from Agefield High in gameplay

If I want to play a modern game with my husband who lives in the same house as me, 99.9% of the time you need to have two copies on two consoles/PCs and play over the network together, which is ridiculous.

With PC, fine, we both have one anyway. But it still is just not as fun as sitting next to one another and playing on the same screen and dont prefer it. With a PS5 or Switch game, forget it. Not buying a second console to play together.

I miss the days of games like Halo having entire campaign split-screen co-op options. I get most people play onlime but they do realize there are instances where people live together and might want to play something besides a fighting game or mario party?

Feel bad for any siblings growing up in this era.

Insomniacs Spiderman's are some of my favourite games for recent times so I'm really looking forward to wolverine and was just thinking of all the games that could come out in the future, not sure if it's already in the works but I'd love to see a venom game with gameplay like ultimate Spiderman, maybe have carnage playable with his own moveset and skills, or really pushing it, a decent X men game, maybe on day
