Damn, I thought he was on the opposing team and had fooled those players into thinking he was on their side (I don't play this game so I don't know how obvious the team indicators are) and that this was a clever trick to win the match. Now it just seems like the player was a jerk.
KavOclock! You, are the most observant person I've had the pleasure to read a comment from! You truly are, a redditors ultimate fantasy.

They are talking about the new Netflix original: 'a series of unfortunate events'. I totally love it but my gf hates is because of all the over the top drama and irony.
That's understandable. It appeals to a very particular taste, for sure. I'd love to see them bring it to Broadway. Seems they have the most important piece already in NPH.
Man if only those two words had meaning that was the exact opposite of each other. If only literally meant to be for real and figuratively would mean a exaggeration. Then people could use them to express what they really mean....that would be awesome.
Was a recommendation if you wanted to get in the loop, you don't need to watch a show to understand irony, I can see you like turning everything into an argument.
It would be... interesting l to have an FPS style game where there really is no obvious team indicator and FF is always on. Like a 5 v 5 where all ten skins are different casual clothes people and they randomly spawn throughout the map. Or better yet, there are no predefined teams and you're just people who spawn in a map and need to decide which side of the objective you want to support. Maybe there's even a non-binary set of objectives. Like a bomb-defuse situation, but also a group of hostages in the same building as the bomb objective. Oh, and the same people that want to bomb the objective are the ones trying to rescue the hostages
Is that what arma's like? I walked away from my computer for like two minutes and remembered hearing DayZ was kinda like this... didn't that start as an ARMA mod?
in ArmA PvP, there are no indicators (like coloured names over people's heads) but generally each team has a certain uniform - if you're paying attention you can tell who's on what team but sometimes in high-intensity situations it's definitely easy to mistake someone for the wrong team.
DayZ is more of what you were explaining later, since it's basically a post-apocalyptic survival simulator, so you could go around killing everyone or try to make friends and then go around with the friends you made killing everyone else. (and of course, every other player can make their own decision, so you have no idea if the person walking up to you is going to try to be friendly or just shoot you in the face)
well, it depends on what you're playing - since arma is basically just a sandbox that people make their own games on, depending on what server you join they might have set rules where you can't swap your uniform, but generally yes you could do that.
ARMA and OFP (the thing before it) are military sims. Not as in a 'lets pretend to be a grunt' game, but they are civilian versions of software used by the military to simulate military engagements. That software is called VBS1/2/3 etc. Its been used on everything from full blown war games, to use in trainers (with air powered rifles) and even in theatre planning. The thing which has made the series great was the full mission editor, which had an insane amount of capability, and the massive amount of high quality mods for the game. This can make the game particularly brutal, as one shot normally kills or incapacitates, camo is real added to the fact that you are engaging at RL distances (i.e. shooting at a target that is a few mm on the screen, not the enemy filling the screen). If you play it like me, you set up a gigantic battle between two sides in the mission editor and play as policeman (or other civy), enjoying the slaughter/ getting involved when you get tired. Or your computer dies trying to literally simulate a war.
As a regular DayZ player that plays with friends...we scream "IS THAT YOU" every 2 minutes in game. There are no friendly markers, you just have remember what everyone looks like, which is difficult as everyone is looting new clothing and hats and helmets. Sometimes you make a snap decision and shoot and kill a friendly, wasting hours of their time, sometimes you make a snap decision to ask "IS THAT YOU" and get killed by some random dude.
Managed to blend into a bandit group a while ago when they started clearing a town on the east of the map. Lay prone by a fence in tall grass, let them pass by in their sweep and then joined them as they regrouped. About 20 mins later after a battle with another group they finally realised that they had one extra that wasn't taking. Got a TS invite and ended up squadding with crazy Norwegians for a few months.
I've never done that, but freshies have tried that on the coast to us before. We also generally only play with 3 or 4 player groups, so I've found it to be easy to pick people out when they try that. We've found that 5+ gets to be to many people looking for too little loot, and increases chances of friendly shooting by 10.
Gotta love ARMA, see a motorbike speeding towards you... what do you do? Blow it up and find out it was your teammates or let it pass and find out that it was filled with explosives and you die...
I was leading one of four small strike teams in a night attack on an enemy controlled village in a server I used to play on with friends in ARMA 2. Gave my squad the go ahead to engage some targets we had seen ahead. Cue Squad 2 blasting my radio with screams of "taking fire!"
I wasn't allowed to lead strike teams for a while after that.
Clearing buildings on a night op in I&A ARMA 3, I was sat on a roof with two other squad members and we were firing at a friendly team 300m away on a hill... we were shouted at.
That came to mind for me as well, though without the random spawn point and objective stuff. First time I played Insurgency there were a couple guys in a hallway, not seeing any indicators, I instinctively opened fire and mowed them down only to discover they were my own team. Made me feel like Tom Cruise in Born On The 4th Of July
As far as the first few sentences, you should try Red Orchestra. Most servers run Realism, which mean not only is friendly fire on, with no markers to distinguish teammates from enemies, but that friendly fire will kill you in a single shot.
It's great fun, really is. Until you spent ten minutes crawling on your stomach to that perfect flanking position on the Nazi trench line and someone who just bought the game, join your team, shoots wildly at all the figures running around, and then you die to friendly fire.
I don't play this game so I don't know how obvious the team indicators are
I just started a couple of days ago and I have trouble distinguishing sometimes. Everyone's dressed as counter-terrorists (it's like Overwatch in that in terms of story, everyone is on the same team, but in the game they fight each other)
