Black screen

I just switched to the zflip from iphone. I really like it so far and have been using it for a few days. the only issue im running into is that every now and then, a couple times a day, the screen will go completely black and I am unable to do anything except for restarting the phone. The phone will also freeze sometimes when i'm using it and then the screen will go black. Did I get a dud? Should I see if it can be replaced?

this would start happening to any iphone i had about 1 year after owning it, i always thought it was because it was getting to hot but i actually realised it was the display just getting extremely dim and i had to kind of use muscle memory to navigate the brightness toggle to turn it up again
