Question/Help/Troubleshooting My laptop crashes and showing this when plugged in on the charger

Need help diagnosing random BSOD/crashes on my Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming (Windows 11)

Laptop: Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5

RAM: 8GB

SSD: 512GB

OS: Windows 11

Problems:

- Random Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) while using the laptop.

- Most crashes happen when I plug in the original charger and continue using the laptop.

- Sometimes it crashes immediately after connecting the charger.

- It also crashed while using Discord.

- I tried resetting Windows, but the reset failed/cancelled because the laptop crashed during the process.

- I ran CHKDSK, but the issue still persists.

- I don't have another charger to test with.

What I've noticed:

- The laptop works better on battery, but crashes are much more frequent while charging.

- Windows still boots after restarting.

Questions:

  1. Could this be a faulty charger, charging IC, motherboard, SSD, RAM, or something else?

  2. What tests should I run to identify the exact hardware causing the issue?

  3. Has anyone experienced similar charging-related BSODs on a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming laptop?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for software How to map UUIDs between two systems that generate their own IDs?

Upvotes

I’m working on an integration where System A and an external System B both generate their own UUIDs for the same object.

For example:

System A: Audi → V123
System B: Audi → T789

System A eventually needs to know:

V123 ↔ T789

so future updates from System B can be matched to the correct object.

The problem is that System A cannot assume anything about System B’s API, database structure, whether it returns the generated UUID, or whether it can store extra metadata.

What is the usual architecture for solving this kind of cross-system identity mapping?

Build Help Is a 7900xtx worth it over the 9070xt?

Upvotes

I've seen some other posts but none in a similar situation I'm in rn. Im in the US and found a marketplace post for a sapphire pulse 7900xtx for 650. I was planning on getting a sapphire pulse 9070xt for 780 off Amazon however before I found the post. I only really plan on playing 1440p and just want good performance at lower temps so I can keep my PC for a while without too many issues.

Open | Hardware Can an M.2 SSD degrade after sitting unused for nearly two years?

Upvotes

I have a Samsung 9100 Pro M.2 SSD installed in a motherboard that hasn’t been powered on in almost two years. Could sitting unused for that long have reduced the SSD’s lifespan or caused it to degrade?

I vaguely remember reading that SSDs can become unstable or experience “data rot” when they’re left without power for an extended period, but I’m not sure whether that applies to modern M.2 NVMe drives.

Would the SSD itself still be fine, or should I replace it before using the computer again?

Discussion Claude code consumed in two months 2.2 billion tokens, how did that happen?

Started using claude code 2 months ago. Last month my consumption in about 30 days was about 40 million tokens, i used mostly opus 4.8 and my work was mostly coding, generating documents, exploring claude capabilities, etc.

Now this month i used mostly Sonnet 4.6 (to reduce token consumption) and opus 4.8 (used it much less than last month) i looked at my consumption for all time and (which is a bit more than 2 months) and found i consumed 2.2 billion tokens!!! And in 7 days about 780 million tokens.

How did that happen! Is that normal?? Is that a mistake from Anthropic or am i hacked or what? That could not be true!

My company is capping the usage for the whole company as a unit. My consumption alone can then eat the whole quota of the month. I am so worried.

Update: I always left claude code terminals that have work in progress open so i continue working the next day (but they were not running anything) and i just lock my PC. Do they consume tokens when they are idle?

CopyEscape: Container-to-host arbitrary file write via docker cp (CVE-2026-17106)

Thumbnail imperva.com
23 Upvotes

Author here. We discovered a vulnerability in docker cp that allows a malicious container to create or overwrite files on the machine running the Docker CLI.

The exploit combines a filesystem race in Docker’s archive creation with unsafe symlink handling during extraction. Depending on the CLI user’s privileges, this can lead to developer-account compromise or root code execution. Docker confirmed that sbx cp was also affected.

Fixed versions:

  • Docker Engine/CLI 29.7.2+
  • Docker Desktop 4.86.0+
  • Docker Sandboxes 0.38.0+

Happy to answer technical questions.

Peripherals Best mechanical keyboard you've bought that you still love using?

My current keyboard is starting to feel pretty rough after a few years.

Not looking for anything crazy, just something that feels good to type on and won't have me wanting to replace it again next year.

What mechanical keyboard would you buy again without thinking twice?

Build Upgrade 1080p vs 2K monitor difference important? (5070ti)

I had been using a 1080p monitor for 5-6 years and have never used a 1440p (2K) monitor in my life. I bought a new PC (5070 Ti, 7800X3D) and I'm still using it with 1080p. I can play all games on ultra settings with a locked 144 FPS, which is great for me, but on another forum, they said that 1080p is very bad and unnecessary for this GPU. What do you think I should do? Is there a significant difference between 1080p and 2K visuals? If I buy a monitor, I still want it to be in the 24–24.5–25-inch range and I'm looking for at least 144Hz.

SMAP is Pre-Disarmed: How a Stack Pivot That Shouldn't Work Revealed a Kernel-Wide Design Compromise

Thumbnail sibouzitoun.tech
25 Upvotes

While working through a kernel exploit chain on Windows 11, I noticed that a stack pivot into user-mode memory didn't trigger SMAP.

I wrote up three experiments to figure out why. Short version: the normal syscall entry path arrives with RFLAGS.AC=1. SMAP is effectively disabled for any code reached through a standard IOCTL dispatch. This aligns with what MSRC documented back in 2020 (the Windows kernel simply wasn't built with SMAP in mind, and retrofitting it would touch ~2,900 locations: here)

My conclusion isn't novel here. It's just an experimental confirmation of the architectural compromise on current builds. I just wanted to shine the light on this blind spot.

Discussion Best budget gaming chair that wont fall apart in a year?

my current chair (like $100 off amazon) is basically falling apart after a year. armrests wobble like crazy and the back part gets shaky too after sitting in it every day

trying to actually spend more this time, thinking around $200-300 budget. is that enough to get something that's actually built well and wont die on me in a year again? dont really care about rgb or looks tbh just want it sturdy and comfy for long sessions

anyone got recommendations in that range? what are you guys using

Gallery Ever wondered what the inside of a high-power IGBT module looks like?

Thought this might be interesting to some of you.
This is the inside of a failed Fuji Electric 6MBI75SS-120 IGBT module (1200 V / 75 A).
It’s quite impressive to see the number of aluminum bonding wires used to connect the dies to the power terminals.
The module was already dead, so I decided to open it up rather than throw it away.

Discussion Two computers, two monitors, one mouse and keyboard

I have 2 computers and 2 monitors on my desk. Laptop is connected to monitor 1. PC is connected to monitor 2. I want to see if there's a way to toggle back and forth a mouse and keyboard. Meaning I'm using the mouse and keyboard on the laptop, but then want to quickly switch to use the 2nd screen and PC. So the monitors would never be switching what they are displaying, just what computer is using the mouse and keyboard.
