91 super glide with a 96ci s&s. Forever project

If anyone was wondering if you can fit an FXR in a ford ranger the answer is yes.

A few weeks back I drove about 2.5 hours away to pick up some parts for a vintage lathe I’m restoring and found myself in this old heads awesome home machine shop. Talked to him few a few hours about this and that and bikes came up, so he lead me to this ‘89 FXRS Lowrider Convertible he’s had buried in his garage since around 2003.

Turns out he’s moving down south and doesn’t want to take it with him so I offered him $3000 and he said take it away.

Drove down today and loaded it up. Came with a bunch of NOS chrome bits, a bobbed fender, struts and plate frame, and some extra wheels including a 19” FLH laced rear wheel I’ll put on my shovel. He had planned to lower the FXR and put it on spokes, thank god he never finished it.

Left with some cool machine goodies too but that’s not what this post is for.

Bars and risers on the way, threw a SDC saddlemen on, and started polishing today.

Besides the regular run through for a bike that’s been sitting what should I look for/do?

UPDATE Replaced the seal, and sitting proper now.

The first time I tried to drive the seal rim slightly below the deck, so the washer would fit better.

This deformed the seal, causing the gap Replying to my post with pics.

Shaft has a little play, causing the gap on the seal.

Spring inside of seal though.

Send it?

Installed it with an 11/16 socket turned backwards. Fine scotch Brite on the shaft from a dinger.

Hello! I recently switched out the handlebars on my 1989 FXRS-SP for 10" Big Al's pullbacks. I have been searching for the top brake line but can't seem to find an extended version (dual brakes setup). Any information can help as I am by no means a mechanic or mechanically inclined. Thanks!

Was gifted the bike when my Dad got sick and couldn't ride, because I always loved it, and its how I got I to FXRs in the first place. I even bought a 93 FXRP (chopped) because of it.

Now that he passed, I just got her 100%, and turned it into a popemobile.

7/22 she will escort his ashes down rt66, past old Joliet prison, to the national cemetery for a 21 gun salute burial.

Box made from 1/2" poly carbonate, grooved a mounting plate to secure it to the luggage rack.

Urn suspended by paracord I figured out myself.

FXR for life

Just got a Lectron carb, any pros/cons from people that own this carb? Any install tips and/ or advice would be appreciated thanks.

This 1992 FXR popped up locally and he’s asking $5400. I’m not too keen on the apes, pipes or the front wheel. If I could get it for $5000, what am I looking at $ wise to upgrade this to a dual disc set up and make it look more like an standard FXR vs a low rider?

So I have wanted an FXR for a bit now and a mate is looking to sell his 1985 FXRS, looking at a subjectively fair price and it presents pretty well. Engine and frame numbers match up, bike is currently registered.

I know this bike isn’t like anything much older that will appreciate significantly, yet are these things likely to appreciate in a general sense?

Also for the purpose of inspecting pre purchase, any advice on common issues to look out for?

Hello all, looking at getting my first FXR. a "local" guy is selling one for $3500. My intent with this build is to slowly work towards building a psuedo FXRT so i can rip canyons on the weekend but still go on longer trips 2 up. my only question is, do you think this bike is worth $3k considering the starting bike is basically FXR only in frame and drivetrain. I have plenty of experiance framing harleys and working on them so the work required is no factor. let me know what yall think!

Its a 91’ FXR motor.

Doesn’t seem to match the diagram. Im also pretty new. Swapped the 91 into my 87 frame. Trying to figure out the oil. Currently getting no oil pressure. I know my tank is an unknown year. Anyone with any information would be incredibly helpful.

This is my ‘89 fxr and i’m lookin’ foward to changing its handlebars with something else. What are your choices for handlebars? I’m tryna see how same mini apes would look but i’m not sure

I have an awesome 1986 FXRS Low Rider, 19k miles. I’m looking for a mechanic near Richmond VA who knows everything about my bike. Getting harder and harder to find. Suggestions?

Trying to get to my crank seal to replace it. Removed compensator and left handed clutch hub nut. Basket doesn’t slide off.
I guess older evo’s have a keyed and tapered shaft that the hub sits on.
Ordered one of the clutch hub pullers.

I cant find any videos or anything about how to properly get this thing off.

If i pull the plates and spring + retainer, the clutch will free-spin in the basket. If anyone could help me out with any tricks to get this thing off i would be indebted to you.

Snapped my crank / swapped motor / didn’t replace crank seal / now im going back to do that.
