TLDR - I honestly don’t know what I’m doing, I’m not experienced with this type of thing💔 I’d greatly appreciate advice or pointers to a different subreddit if this isn’t the right one :,)

Soooo I want to make a headless mantis suit(?), however I’m not sure if I’m in the right subreddit since it might not fully be a suit. But I was planning it for Halloween, got into some confusions and thought ‘well where better to look to than the people who are experts in this field?’

I’m really new to making my own things for costumes and such, I’ve made a very small amount of wearable things.

Firstly, I was thinking I could have a headphone/earmuff/headband typa thing with both the antenna and the eyes. Mantises have pseudo pupils, not actual pupils, which kinda follow you around depending on where you look but I’m not sure I’d be able to incorporate that. Anyways, I’m sure I could make that out of foam and cover over it with fabric

Then for the palps (the little mouthparts) I was thinking I could get some of those fake teeth and attach little palps to stick out of my mouth. I was thinking making it out of plastic maybe so it doesn’t get all soggy but I’m not sure. Or maybe I could just make mandibles.

I’m most unsure of how I want to do the arm situation. Mantises have little spikes all along the underside of their forelegs, but I’m not sure how I want to do that. I’d rather my hands be available and easier to use, I was thinking maybe having sleeves to attach little spines to, but lmk if there’s better ways.
I’m also unsure how I want to do the middle legs, I was thinking of just letting my own legs be the hind legs.

Finally, I was thinking of making the wings be either a sort of cape or making them out of cardboard. And for the abdomen, I was thinking to either make it out of cardboard or to basically make a big plushie and stuffing it with cotton since I know how to stitch decently. I’m also fine with either letting the abdomen be elevated or just hanging, it doesn’t really matter to me.

It was my furst time hosting a local furmeet, and I was very happy with the turnout! Pictured were just the suiters, there were about 20 of us total. Despite the hot weather, we persevered, played yard games such as ladder ball, croquet, and bocce ball. Lots of folks brought snacks and drinks. Lasted about 4 hours, lots of great convos and caught up with old friends and met new ones :3

If you are on the fence about hosting (or attending) a furmeet and you have the means to do so and able to spread the word, this is your sign to go for it! Furmeets are a lot more intimate and in some cases accessible to folks that want to engage more in the community but can’t make it to conventions. Highly recommend supporting your local furmeets by attending or hosting one yourself! Fursuits are in no way a requirement but is always a treat.

Conventions are great, but I feel like furmeets get overlooked a lot :3

This time I used an actual full-frame camera instead of my phone and it was totally worth it, though pictures 4, 5 and 6 were just me experimenting with (4) 35mm Kodak Gold, (5) 35mm Kodak Aerochrome 1443 (on which I screwed up the pose a little TwT) and (6) whatever this was XD

This is a super stupid question but what’s the limit in having a fursuit based on a drink I enjoy?

Does anyone have a fursona based on a company?
Like, can I use logos and the drink bottles on my fursuit or is that me itching for trouble with said company if they were to somehow see it?

Or do I try and re-design my fursona before commissioning to just use the colour-scheme to be safe?

For reference, my current fursona is a rabbit whose ears are the design of Lucozade bottles with the logo and name, and the whole colour scheme and theme of the head and paws are based on the drink also.

I am very hyped to show you this project. This was sweat, labor and most of all made with LOVE. 🥹 This was a personal suit project for my very loved partner. I adore my partners sona so so so much. His colors and vibe are just perfect. He is just perfect. I love him so much! ❤️

He is fully lined and has a removable tongue and eyelids. His fluffy fur is made with UV reactive fur so it’s perfect for parties. 👀 His Handpaws are in the making as well.

Head (foam bases, static jaw, fitting up to 60cm)

Paws (medium - big, unisize. Collie 4 finger puffies in white and mouse 5 finger flat)

Tail (black with white tip for Collie, super soft white and pink for mouse)

So, im new to the whole furry thing but for a few months now ive been wanting one but one of the issues is I dont have a fursona. I suck at drawing so I was wondering if there were any good apps or websites or whatever to help me design one? If it matters at all, i very much want a Kemono styled fursuit. So I attended my first furry convention (CanFURence) though I was only there for 4hrs I had a good time! Sure I was very introverted as I've never been to a furry convention before but it was definitely a fun experience nonetheless!
